Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

Massive three points for Everton this morning. West Ham looked and played exactly like a team who had just played in Greece 72 hours ago.

The Manchester Derby is quickly becoming as lopsided and uncompetitive as the Merseyside Derby. The two sides just aren’t remotely on the same level right now.

One step forward last week follow by two massive steps back this week for Chelsea.
That’s what happens when you buy a bunch of really talented, but extremely inexperienced, youth prospects to play in the toughest league in the world. It’s going to be this inconsistent all season.

Brentford, and other teams that play a defensive low block, have also been our kryptonite for last few years now. We look better against teams that like to attack and play forward and we look terrible against teams that like to sit back and wait for opportunities to counter because we are terrible in the final 3rd already, even worse against a low block. I was actually more confident in giving Arsenal a game than I was at beating Brentford.

Is what it is, it’s going to be a long season. Still only 3 points off of a European spot though.. albeit, a pretty lame European league/cup.

Not sure yet. The boys go off to college soon. Are you making the annual pilgrimage?
Absolutely. Looking forward to our post-Christmas beatdown at the hands of City. I thought this year would be my final time at Goodison, but delays in the stadium construction have it looking like we’ll still be there for most, if not all, of next season as well.

I’m a big Messi fan, but come on. Haaland broke the PL scoring record and won the CL, FA Cup and the PL to win the Treble. Criminal for him not to win.
It would have been criminal even if Messi were still in his prime. Winning it for three good weeks in Qatar and a dozen MLS games is a joke. Haaland had an all-time great season.

Maybe people forgot that Argentina also won the South America - European Cup vs Italy. Garreth Bale managed to drag Wales into the WC for once. Why couldn't Haaland get Norway in?

Can you name a single other Norwegian player besides Martin Ødegaard who plays at a top club? That Welsh team had a least a half a dozen PL regulars. Bale certainly played a role, but it’s not he qualified by himself. It’s not like basketball where a single player can have that much influence on a game.

Also, the Balon d’or is awarded on a year by year basis. What happened a couple years ago during WC qualifying shouldn’t have any bearing on this one.

Checking in here as a Dortmund fan. Happy to see Haaland not win Balloon d'Or
Why? Do you also root against Bellingham, Pulisic, Lewandowski, and every other great player your team scouts and minor leagues off to every big club in Europe? Be mad at your club, not the players or the teams that purchase them.

You're answering your own questions? For the second time in history the Ballon measured the season instead of the year. The season was August 22-July 23. First, The copa was in 2021. The European cup was Jan 2022. Those had no bearing. In terms of country, He and Oodegard is all they have of note. Wales is a damn good team. I am now reminded to never argue with Messi fans.

I don't think Messi was the best player at PSG. Social media fans will always say Messi is the best. Those that really understand the sport know he hasn't been top 5-10 for 3 years now.
