Premiere League & World Soccer Thread

We’re bound to screw this up eventually. I just hope it isn’t against Chelsea… Hopefully Ange continues to be our good luck charm.
I think Poch will set us up similar to how we did against Arsenal with Palmer playing as a false 9/10 hybrid. We stacked the middle of the field with a box formation with Palmer being the 4th and it worked beautifully. Odegaard had one his worst games against us because he had no room to do anything. I think we will need to do the same to Madisson to have a chance today. If we come out and try to play y’all straight up I just don’t see it ending well. We have been at our best playing sound defensively and counter attacking.

Still, don’t have a lot of faith with this Jekyll and Hyde team.. I’d bet 1-0 Spurs.

Absolutely. Looking forward to our post-Christmas beatdown at the hands of City. I thought this year would be my final time at Goodison, but delays in the stadium construction have it looking like we’ll still be there for most, if not all, of next season as well.
Unfortunately, we will not be there post Christmas. The boys have too much going on with college visits. There is an outside chance during March, but not sure. Please text pics of games you attend this year. I will have to live vicariously through those.

Ugh. We did not set up similarly and have Jackson up top and no Mudryk. I’m even less confident now but who knows with this team anymore.

Wild first 20 minutes that completely summarizes Chelsea’s season.

Spurs get a deflection, fluke goal.
Chelsea get a deflection, overturned goal.

All while bodies are flying everywhere and Romero is kicking people like he’s in a karate match.

Edit: and now another overturned goal while missing Romero karate kicking another player in the box.

Romero is a dirty player

Commentators not even trying to hide their contempt for VAR today.
There were a few times they didn’t need to inject themselves. The last one with James/Udogie (damnit I love this last name) was just dumb. Let them play.

The goals and the red card though they got right and they needed to be reviewed. Ffs though, what a frustrating half with all the stops.

Udogie, what a last name, is also lucky to still be playing. If he would have made any contact with Sterlings ankle/shin instead of barely clipping his foot, he gets sent off too.

Romero is a dirty player
Always has been. He’s a child and he’s cost the Spurs multiple times now the last couple years. Sometimes the “enforcer” type players, the “master of the dark arts” type players if you will, are loved by their teams fans but I wonder how Spurs fans actually feel about the guy.

Not a fan.

What a bizarre game. Spurs played 40 minutes with nine men, and honestly would have almost certainly gotten at least a point if not for that suicidal high line.

PL needs to get a workable plan together for fixing VAR, or just scrap it. At a bare minimum, approve the use of automated offside at the earliest possible opportunity. The delays were absurd. Nearly 25 minutes of added time.

After months of good performances and **** results, I’m okay with taking the opposite. Would have liked to see an actual match though. We survived the avalanche in the first 10 minutes after the goal, but then VAR and dumb decisions from some players just took the game over. Oh well, move on.

Automation is the key to pleasing both sides of the VAR argument. I want quick, correct results. Today, the results were correct, but over half of the reviews could have been done instantly with automated VAR for offsides and instead took forever. Can’t automate foul reviews but if that’s all we are really reviewing the game is still a better product.
