QF for EFL cup set:

Everton v Fulham
Chelsea v Newcastle
Port Vale v Middlesbrough
Liverpool v West Ham

Port Vale and Middlesbrough both escape PL competition. Fairly interesting matchups. My Chels probably going to crash out this round but we do get Newcastle at home so who knows.

If we go, it will have to be here. Only time I can take off of work. My wife said if that happens, I need to take her to Paris on the trip. We'll see. Depends on the Christmas bonus.....

You need to make that happen. Would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity to watch a game from one of the worst away ends in England before they tear it down.

Seriously though, if you thought QPR was cool then you’ll really like Goodison. It’s very similar, only it’s a PL ground and it’ll be packed. I didn’t think I was going to get to go to that game against City because there’s no trains on Boxing Day, but since they moved it to the next day I’ll be able to go.

Good call by the wife on going to Paris. That place is awesome.

Newcastle all but ran up a white flag at Old Trafford with that lineup they put out yesterday and still won 3-0. Who knows how seriously they’re taking this competition. But it’s the QF’s, so by now teams are within touching distance of Wembley. May be time to pull out all the stops and win some silverware. Especially with City already out.

I doubt Liverpool will fully play their first team going forward either. They need to focus on getting back in the CL one way or another, and this doesn’t help them with that. They’ve got 13 games between now and the New Year, so the Carabao may need to be sacrificed.

This one really feels like it’s up for grabs this year, which is pretty neat.

Agree with this. I think you'll see similar lineups to the Bournemouth fixture with guys like Endo, Quansah, Tsimikas, Gomez, etc. with a handful of starters sprinkled in and see how far they can go with that.

A return to the CL is critical for next season, especially given the signings that will be needed in the winter window and next summer who will likely desire a move to a team who will play CL football. I'm convinced Mo is gone next summer, so the scouting department needs to be working overtime in both windows to find suitable replacements (not an easy task).

I saw this laughable line in the WP a day or two ago.

‘This means Saudi Arabia is the likely host of the global soccer tournament, although FIFA says the country must still demonstrate that it meets requirements on infrastructure, services, sustainability and human rights.’
FIFA: “We care about Human Rights! See, we put it in the release statement!”

Also, FIFA, to Saudi Arabia: “So how much are you willing to pay for the WC again? That’s all we care about.”

I am curious how much they paid Australia to back out.
I doubt they had to pay Australia to back out. Anyone who’s paid attention the last 10-15 years knows how this would end. No sense in spending any time or resources seriously putting together a bid if the process is rigged and you won’t be seriously considered.

Chelsea’s woman coach, Emma Hayes, is stepping down at the end of the year to take over USWNT. Terrible for Chelsea as she is a legend but can’t blame her for not turning down this opportunity. USWNT will benefit massively.

Rare kudos to VAR on that one. Three separate things arguably could have ruled that goal out, but none of them were a clear and obvious error, so they stuck with the call on the field.

Haven’t seen the actual video yet because I could find a replay in a quick search on Twitter but seen some still shots of the ball in the Arsenal/Newcastle game and I mean, technology shows it in play. Idk, maybe my thought changes once I see the actually play.

To me the video angles were inconclusive because they didn’t show a camera looking straight down the line. Do officials have access to GLT for the full length of the goal line, or does it just cover the goal mouth?

This is that WC goal all over again. You could look at the ball from one camera angle and say in and another angle and say out. This was the video I saw. I’d assume this is the same technology VAR used.

As for the fouls they mention I still haven’t seen the actual play video, so idk about those. Idk why it’s been hard to track down the actual play on Twitter.
