Well… while it was 11 on 11 it looked like you guys were trying to limit Maddison. Of course after the card, everything changes.I think Poch will set us up similar to how we did against Arsenal with Palmer playing as a false 9/10 hybrid. We stacked the middle of the field with a box formation with Palmer being the 4th and it worked beautifully. Odegaard had one his worst games against us because he had no room to do anything. I think we will need to do the same to Madisson to have a chance today. If we come out and try to play y’all straight up I just don’t see it ending well. We have been at our best playing sound defensively and counter attacking.
Still, don’t have a lot of faith with this Jekyll and Hyde team.. I’d bet 1-0 Spurs.
This is a valid point. I thought we should have been more pragmatic when it was 10 vs 11. We had a chance to salvage a point there and maybe nick all 3 on the counter.More times I listen to Ange talk the more I like him. Good manager too.
Have to say though, any other manager gets roasted for playing that ridiculous high line while down to 9 men. For some reason he gets a pass by all of the NBC crew though. With how bad we’ve been at scoring the last 2 seasons, he could have easily salvaged 1 point, if not 3, since we always have one brain fart a game on defense.

I’m proud we fought hard until the end but I’m honestly more upset about losing Van de Ven for an extended period than I am about the 3 points. Hopefully Romero can keep his pants on in the spring at the Bridge so we can actually have a game.

All in all, it’s been a great start to the season. Can’t complain too much.
I think Maddison is alright, just a knock so he shouldn’t miss more than a game. Van de Ven on the other hand looks like he could be out for a couple months. That by itself will essentially end our title charge. Our replacement options are Ben Davies (who is a left back by trade and currently injured), Emerson Royal (who is a right back normally and astoundingly probably our best option here), Eric Dier (whose 40 yard dash time is somewhere in the neighborhood of 5 and a half seconds) and 18 year old Ashley Phillips (who has yet to play a minute of premier league action). Either way you slice it, it’s a pretty devastating injury. I’m just hoping we’re still top 4 at Christmas. It certainly did look like the plan was to try and pressure and take space from Maddison but he did a great job of finding holes by dropping deeper to get the ball. He sliced us like a hot knife through butter on y’all’s first goal. Great ball from him, hope his injury isn’t long term for y’all.
Van de Ven loss looks lengthy. That didn’t look good. Honestly, not out of line to blame VAR for that one. So much standing around that I’m surprised more players didn’t have any muscle injuries.
Poch actually commented on it after the game when asked and he actually seemed to side with the decision and said when you are playing with the confidence that the Spurs are you can try that. Not at 9 men, but maybe not as crazy at 10 with the way y’all have been playing.
Well, I did say “unless United suck again today”, and sure enough they suckedStill have a 2-3 more games to go in group stage depending on if you played yesterday or today, but United and Newcastle need to step their play up in CL.
Bayern Munich running away with United’s group but Galatasaray making things interesting with a point lead over United right now in 2nd. United playing 4th place Copenhagen though and Gala playing Bayern, so imagine United goes into 2nd today. Unless they just suck again today. Would have 2 games left after today.
Newcastle is at the bottom of the group of the death with 2 games to go after losing to Dortmund yesterday. They aren’t out of it though as all teams are within 1 point of each other. That will be a fun group to watch the last 2 games.
Arsenal leading their group by 1 with 3 games left but the bottom 2 teams are 4 points behind them, so as long as they don’t bottle it they should move on. City have already clinched the knock out rounds but only 3 points ahead of RB Leipzig for 1st in the group. Still have to think they will be 1st though even if RB beat them next game and RB win their last game. City have a +6 goal differential.
I’m predicting City and Arsenal go 1st out of their group and qualify for knock outs, and United qualify as 2nd team out of their group for knock outs. Newcastle get knocked out.
