It doesn't really redistribute anything. It just causes the price of everything to go up. Raise minimum wage 10% and soon everything goes up in price by 10%.

Net effect is the same though. Markets aren't happy, net worth of investors is shrinking, while debt also shrinks. Tends to favor the poor over the rich.

Minimum wage should be zero. The market will set the floor in general. It’s not meant to support a family on. It’s for 16 yo who needs money for gas and a car payment.

My pay is a little less than 20% what our CEO makes.

And that doesn't bother me at all. WE have very different jobs and expectations.

But when he is let go, quits or fired he will be set for life. I will need to find another job.

Being a professional cashier should not be something to strive for. Lower paying jobs are intended to suck to push employees to do something more. Not retire there. If you want to make more find a better job. I'm not paying a person $15 per hour to check people out when I can buy a self checkout machine and save money in the long run.

When the government: (1) creates an economy that fails to produce better jobs, and/or (2) redistributes wealth from middle class to pay the expenses of the lower class: You get adults working at jobs that were intended for high school students, or living with their parents while refusing to work and calling it "the great resignation", all while complaining that they are poor.

(I know that it's not the gov't job to create jobs, but policy can definitely constrain job creation and send the jobs overseas.)

Member how Team Biden and it's supporters here were talking about how much the market was up under him?

On Inauguration Day the Dow was 31157 - currently it is 31653; S&P was 3848 - currently it is 3921. We are perilously close to the market being down under Biden.

Holy hell guys! Reread what I said! I wasn't making a plea for minimum wage to be higher! I was making an analogy that Donde's personal massive raise while staff and graduate students (who teach a ton of classes and are the grunt work of the research that gives the university praise) aren't getting raises equivalent to inflation is like a McDonald's manager (someone who shouldn't be making 6 figures) is making an insane amount and gives themselves a raise while his/her workers are making $7.25 part time.

At no point did I say a fast food cashier deserved more than minimum wage🤦🏼‍♂️

And why the hell did this get moved to the Biden thread? My post was about Plowman lining her own damn pockets!

No. The first step really should be to figure out if our immigration law even needs to be fixed - or just simply enforced. Just because there is a lot of demand to be here doesn't make changing things our problem. We need to decide what kind (skill sets) and how many immigrants we want and work from that; demand at the border isn't part of that. Immigration policy isn't generally about what outsiders need/want; it's all about what immigrants can bring to the table, and what we need. One of the factors in that is to look at the huge proportion of our own people who aren't working for one reason or another. Perhaps it is an aging population into retirement, but people who should be working should be somehow put back into the workforce and not replaced with immigrant labor. We also need to look at education, and decide how that's failing to meet our workplace needs. All that comes before changing immigration policy.
