Those comments were made well into the trials for both Moderna and Pfizer. These comments were encouraging many people to question the vaccines, they might have been the seeds. Well, given that America decidedly leans to the left nowadays (which is covered over by Republican gerrymandering and the structure of Senate (each state getting two senators, regardless of population)), you're probably right that more liberals were polled.
