Look at it from a positive aspect. If he has to sit out some early games it could give his ACL more healing time for the long haul. He could be available later in the season when other WRs are banged up.

BTW, he passed the test, is in school so what would keep him from practicing, rehabbing under the training staff or even playing until he passes the test again? If he fails on the next try, would that mean that UT would have to vacate wins in games he played? Or, would UT have some kind of NCAA sanctions?

If he is declared ineligible then yes, we would have to vacate any wins that he participated in.

Its already been reported that he will get to retake the test in 2 weeks.

The retake date really isn't clear in what Hyams reported below. Hyams says the test date will be set within 2 weeks. That really doesn't say he will take the test within 2 weeks.

The NCAA Clearinghouse red-flagged Williams' ACT score after a significant jump. His date to retake is expected to be set within 2 weeks.

To my knowledge the clearinghouse only accepts test taken on national testing dates which would be sept 12th

I hope there are exceptions with this situation

I understand why they do this I guess, but it's BS. I took the ACT as a junior and made a 21. Took it 6 months later and made a 27. I didn't cheat, I just guessed better the second time. It's a shame a guy can't get lucky without being penalized. Particularly when he plays for TN. :(

With a 2.8 GPA, for example, you need an NCAA ACT requirements score of 57. It really depends on his GPA in high school on what he needs to score. The higher the GPA, the lower the ACT score needed.

The ACT is scored from 1 to 36.... If someone is scoring a 57 that's insane

I got a 24 on the ACT first time I took it. (literally shocked as I was clueless on many questions) if I retook it, I would get no where near the same score. Judging based off of this is ridiculous.

My daughter voluntarily took the ACT again. Score moved from 27 to 31. That was with about 4-6 hours of study per week plus a private tutor.

Someone taking a monumental jump is suspicious. But i can see a person pulling it off with lots of prep, tutoring, etc.

A lot of the time it's a case of these kids not giving a damn until they figure out they need to get a good score to get in. I could see Preston making a crap score and not really caring early on then turning it around and focusing on the test especially if a college is helping him focus on test prep. Sometimes learning test taking skills also can help these kids out a lot as well, some just do not test well on standardized tests.

Gosh. This has so many chances of ending badly. I hope Preston knows we are cheering for him and want him cleared. I think this guy can be really special.

Seriously. I hate the NCAA. Yeah, I get it, it's "suspicious."

"Well Preston, you studied hard, took the time to learn and better yourself as a person, but we here at the NCAA, here in the 11th hour before the season have decided to punish you for your success. Because, well just because. Also if you marginally pass or have a bad testing day and don't get close to your score again, we're revoking your eligibility and taking your dreams away."

So correct me if I'm wrong, but that's what these stupid MFers are basically telling this young man?

I have a gut feeling that he is just going to be a problem child the whole time he is here.

I watched some of his games last year and his side line antics were just downright childish and immature.

If he cheated, he cheated. What is the percentage jump that it takes to get flagged anyways? I'm sure that it's based on statistical significance. I think the bigger issue is that UT must have had the same information. Hopefully this isn't a Derrick Rose situation.
