"Protests"

I respect you and what you did for this nation.

But I've got three men who are in my family that fought for this country too...and watching people sit down like this makes them angry, it makes them sad. My uncle says he feels like he did when people attacked him for being in the military

He agrees, he fought so they can do what they want he just wishes they could understand what the anthem and the flag represents to him.
Il If they are upset when people exercise their rights..... That they defended, then the issue is with them. That's great the Flag and Anthem mean that to him, but if he wants to suppress the freedoms that the Flag stands for, then he really needs to rethink why he joined the military in the first place.

The thing about these protests, is it's a mental distraction to the game. The Steelers tried to pull a PR stunt on the road and show-up the home team. It backfired and they lost to the worst team in football.

Come on, there is no way you can say that caused it; upsets happen all the time in the NFL.

This actually made me cry

This is Alejandro Villanueva, the only player from the Steelers to come out and stand for the anthem. He served three tours in Afghanistan, graduated from West Point, was awarded a bronze star for his service.

And his entire team left him on that field...alone.

His entire team sat out and disrespected his service.

I cannot believe there are people out there who would do something like that.

So everyone who is talking about veterans who sit out the anthem, who support the protests. Look at him. His entire team decided not to show respect, so he stood ALONE

You're making a ton of assumptions here.

Why civilains are so up in arms about this **** is beyond me. As a Veteran I will always stand, but I also support the right for someone to not stand or to protest..... It's one of the basics of why we fought. Stop speaking for all military and veterans.... Especially if you were never one.

Thank you.

Beware Twitter users, when you protest the protesters, and your life is threatened, Twitter will suspend your account for "inflammatory rhetoric." SMDH :banghead2:

As far as NFL or ESPN or CNN or any of them... its like a big collection of snowflakes millionaire and billionaires crying about how unfair life is -- priceless.

Pretty much feel the same way. You can throw these millionaire players in there too. Their protests are stupid. Not really sure what they're protesting now. I guess today they were protesting Trump. What will it be next week? Who knows.. It's a little hard for an average hard working American like myself to have respect for their crybaby BS.. How about realizing how fortunate you are to be born and live in the greatest country on earth with the opportunities it affords and act lile you ****ing appreciate it.....

I am a veteran. I believe they can do what they want. In my opinion, the way they are going about this is distracting from their objective. Kneeling quietly during the anthem, standing with a fist in the air ('68 style) would at least show pride and respect for our country while accenting the need for improvements.

Finding it very hard to understand how this affects anybody whatsoever. Please enlighten me bc I'd love to see the other side's perspective.
I think kneeling for the national anthem is misplaced anger, but it doesn't change a thing in my life when they do that. Who are these people that care? Who are the people refusing to watch games bc of this? They can't actuall be big football fans to begin with, right?

Personally I don't care either way, that's a person freedom to do so. However I just find it disrespectful towards people like my brother who will have life long problems from his injury serving overseas. But once again we have that freedom to do as you please because of people like my brother.

Well, I think sports in general has peaked, probably peaked 4-5 years ago, traditional cable has probably peak to a certain degree as well. Yes, people are turning off sports and cable including ESPN.... you are not losing huge number all at once... its slow death. People aren't sick of just one thing... it is a whole line of issues which are sometimes combined as well.

I go to micro breweries, bunches of them... not one TV. TV in particular has basically become a cesspool which has a large degree started this process. Lets just put it this way... you don't put you politics into social events... unless you are begging for a problem. People are ditching many of these traditional entertainment paths because they have become tainted, overused, or people just don't like it any more.

The hypocrisy of these guys are on another level
, I have no problem with them freaking break dancing during the anthem.... but nothing is going to change with this... other than probably the revenues will continue to go down. Good! I still have no idea what these guys are "protesting" nor have a clue as what they want... not that I watch much football anymore... certainly not going to pay for it. Just a bunch of grown ass snowflakes in little boy football uniforms to me and it has nothing to do with whether the stand up or sit down or break dance. Hopefully, it starts a discussion as why these rich welfare recipients need to have taxpayer funding, its completely crazy that the public has to pay millionaires and billionaires to act like hypocrites.

Get the bums off the taxpayers payroll!!!!

This whole thing reminds me of the Chris Jackson issue in the 90s... wouldn't stand for the anthem... because of religious reasons. NBA suspended him. Heck, I get it... if you have a moral or religious issue not to stand for something... I'm cool with that... I am also cool with the person writing the check to not pay him, generally. So, what does he do... well he submits.... he stands... why? Because in the end it was never about his moral or religious belief... he wanted the millions in cash just like everyone else. Get the bums off the taxpayer's payroll, let them stand, break dance, sit, squat, etc with someone else's money. Literally, they could care two bits as to whether their money is coming from a poor taxpayer in the inner city or any place else...

Actually, he worked out a compromise with the NBA.

He would stand during the playing of the national anthem but could close his eyes and look down.
