Pruitt’s signing class grade

It's a dead period. What else could he do?

Perception more than anything else, but its also an distraction before the dead period even started. Usually I like coaches to finish up, but man, I don't like any of this for Tennessee. The good news is there will be some decent players that will fail through the cracks with the earlier signing period.

I would say Beal and Williams could be two potential candidates.

Incomplete

gonna go with this...if I'm not mistaken these rankings also include verbals (not signed) so they can be a little misleading right now...but, so far, so good, for me, but February is a little down the road, so I'm gonna wait and see how this plays out...and,

GO VOLS!

What a foolish topic, good grief are these really fans or just trolling?

Coach Pruitt and company are doing just fine and we are going to have good competitive team next year, and getting stronger every year.

Go Vols

No one can say s*** about Pruitt having an okay class. I mean he's literally only had two weeks to try and convince that the 4-8 Dumpster fire Vols are worthwhile.

Calm tf down

I give it a C. Kind of just meh. I know he had to salvage it but I’m not so sure he is all in yet since he is still worried about playoffs coming up. This elite recruiting staff not looking so elite

Your aware there is still another month until the February Signing Day wraps everything up!

As for as this early period I give it a B+. From what I have read by the time the early signing period is done we will have signed at least (6) 4-Star players.

We are in on enough high profile guys if the staff can pull it off over the next month we will easily have a Top 10-12 class overall. IMO

Considering the issues. B+, the Mays issue was a shame, I don't believe there was enough reason to him to sign with UGA..........just disappointing.

Born Vol........Stay Vol! never will be a VFL........home you don't regret it, when UT stomps a mud hole in UGA next year.

Just looking at this early signing day without context is crazy. The dumpster fire CJP and crew took over 12 days ago is without precedent. Given that context, I give it a B+. And I can't wait to see what they do in February.

I have to agree. As I watched interviews with Mullen and Kirby I thought where is our coach and his interview? the ESPN folks then talked about how Pruitt was in Tuscaloosa. Now Saban is having a press conference on early signing day....blah, blah, blah and yet we have very little buzz or even talk. We may indeed get some highly ranked players between the 11th and NSD but I am certainly concerned at others success in the East.

I first thought the publicity of Pruitt being at the championship games would help but second guessing that thought now. With a majority of the players sign who is the publicity for?

Typical of some in our fan base. Extreme impatience. Assigning grades two weeks after Pruitt arrived, before the day is over and way before recruiting class is done. I must grade this post a D for effort.

I dunno guys, just look at the player rankings. Most of em are committed already.
2018 Top Football Recruits

For those that are committed and not signed it gives Pruitt & Sherrer and the guys a chance to steal a few players away from other programs with the offer of early playing time.

We got the QB from California to visit last weekend and then a couple of days ago he decommitted from Cal and today signed with Tennessee.

Hm. I doubt LSU has a top 7 class even if they sign 2 5-stars and 3 more 4-stars, which they believe they have good shots at. I'm not sure how you get your numbers but there isn't going to be that many guys left after Friday.

My guess for an example is LSU finished 7th - 10th even if they sign what they expect by Friday which is two this week Marshall (5-star) and Proven (3-star).

Even if they sign what they expect which is mostly 4 and 5 star guys getting top 7 is going to be tough.

I didn't think Pruitt had the luxury to keep coaching Alabama, normally I like the coaches to finish out if they can but man, I think this was a different situation. I think this hurt Tennessee much more than most realize.

Didn’t hurt us one bit. Go be wrong about your own team. :)

Blame it on Currie and Haslam.....

Oregon is 13, Florida is 14, A&M is 18, Ms State is 21, UCLA is 31. All hired before us and all are ranked ahead of us....

We are barely ahead of Ole Miss and they are on probation. We essentially blew it this year with the way that Haslam and Currie ran the coaching search.

How so he was in Knoxville recruiting everyday until Sunday when the Dead Period started. There is nothing he can do now until the Dead Period is over as for as recruiting goes.

Considering the position he was in, I'd give him a B on the early signing period. Not great, not terrible, decent. He came in on the front end of the dead period. Not much he could do. If he gets this class into the top 20 by the 2nd NSD, which I believe he will, that's a solid A.

Still a lot of high profile guys that won't sign until February!

Either trolling or just really dumb. Early signing is a 72 hour period...3 days...this is the 1st day...and basically have until February and actually beyond....

It's nowhere close to being done. Actually it's just starting....

They got some players. Says something. I'm not so concerned with whether this staff can recruit. I'm more concerned with how they're going to outrecuit Bama, UGA and UF going forward. We are moving to simplified football schemes which means that the jimmys and joes are going to be all the more important. Next year we will literally be trying to win a gunfight with a dull knife. The following year we may have a single shot, then a double barrel, etc. If we can begin matching UF, UGA and Bama in recruiting starting with the 2019 class, we should be competitive by 2023 if our staff develops the talent and manages gameday properly. Think about that. 2023 before we really even have a shot at relevance again.
