Mullen was going to whomever gave him the cash he wanted. Other than the current AD, Mullen has zero ties to the university except for having coached there with Urban.

UF was in much better shape than UT, and he had that previous tie to UF, plus the AD. Could we have gotten him with ungodly money? Possibly, but he always preferred UF. It was a better situation.

Pruitt isn't going any where for the rest of this year and most of the next if (and that is a big if) they fire him at the end of the year regardless of how many games he loses!

I am currently not in favor of firing Pruitt BUT I am starting to have concerns about the future of UT football. Part of college football is all about the emotions and the heart of the players. Sure you need good players, but it is more than just having good players. You need to fire-up the players each week for them to give 110%. When Pruitt is on the sideline wearing headphones during the game it looks like he listening to his favorite classic music selections. Pruitt is really good knowing the technical stuff about football, but there is a LOT more to being a great head coach. I am just not sure he has the leadership skills of being a great football head coach?

I only know one “connected” person in Knoxville.
He told me that if we lose the next 5, that the money people would pony up the buyout.
We have never started 1-7. That would be too big an embarrassment for our big donors.
Fulmer would be interim and they would go after a “proven power 5 winner”. (I laughed when he said that but he says you don’t know how angry Georgia State made them).

So, can we win one of these next 5:
At Florida
Georgia (after a bye week)
MSU
At Bama
USC

Pruitt has to just win one of those games and then get 2 more out of UAB, UK, MU, Vandy.
But, one of those two wins must be Vandy.
Our donors could, I’m told, live with 4-8 and 2 SEC wins if we don’t finish last in the East and Pruitt can hang onto Bailey and a decent 25-30 ranked recruiting class.

If we can somehow win tomorrow, the only sure losses left are UGA and Bama.
But, if we get our clocks cleaned by UF, we may just fall apart.

His stoic demeanor is not what worries me. I’ve seen great coaches that were like that, Tom Landry comes to mind. We seem to for get he’s NEVER been a head coach at any level. Did anyone actually expect him to coach like a seasoned, veteran head coach? If it were my decision, would I have hired him? NO! That said he’s here and we’re going to have to live with it for a while. He’s going to screw up some (GSU game case in point). My hope is he’s a very quick study at the job.
