Let's penalize elite athletes based on their parents' wealth!!!

That'll teach those hard working, athletic kids of successful people!!

Penalize them? If my father were as rich as his and I received and athletic scholarship then I would just say keep and and I'll walk on so we can help the team out more by getting an extra scholarship player on the roster.

It's a merit scholarship, not need. He earned it. End of story. I don't care if his daddy is Bill Gates.

All this over Puff daddy's kid when he's in a class with barry sanders', deon sanders, and ken griffy jr's, kids. Why aren't they lumped in there too? Its ridiculous that this is even talked about. He earned a scholarship and had several other offers.

I'm sure puffy will donate more to the school than the price of his sons scholarship. If I were him I'd get one of those enormous checks for a couple hundred grand and call a press conference to tell everyone to suck it

Yes, PENALIZE them...which is what you're suggesting.

The Combs kid is competing against other student athletes based on their athletic ability and academic standing. The net worth of his father, or the parents of the kids he's competing against is irrelevant.

Actually no it's not penalizing him because I didn't say he should be forced to give it up. But it's selfish not to - if he cares about his team why not give it up so they can get another player in there and have him walk on? Seems like a no brainer to me when your dad makes enough for his college tuition in 1 day of work. It's done a lot by players with wealthy parents because the kids are willing to help the team in any way they can - and usually by players who don't have fathers near as wealthy.

If he cares about his team he will bust his ass on the practice field and in the classroom, and represent UCLA in a positive way. That's all the Combs kid owes anyone.

If his father made a donation to UCLA's athletic department would you feel any different?

All I know for sure is UCLA is highly competitive academically to be admitted. My niece who is now an MD in Santa Monica was not admitted until not her junior year of college there, and she had over a 4.0 when graduated high school. In all probability he earned it on his on.

No it wouldn't. Having another scholarship player on the roster is invaluable.

If it was done by giving another scholly like I believe it was you mentioned earlier then I would think good deal. Get another kid an education.

So at this point, the kid will only be playing on the team because his dad is Pdiddy..............much rather he be there because he earned it.

He still earned it - he got the offer and would have chosen to turn it down to get even more talent on the field - and no one could ever take that away from him. And it this point based on his offer list it seems like there was some preferential treatment just like Mark Richts son getting an offer to Clemson.

Why not make your team more talented when it's nothing to you? Seems like a no brainer and great way to help the program you're going to be a part of for the next 4 years.

The kid put in work to get a scholly like anyone else. Just because his father has money doesn't mean this kid deserves a shot. Should Archie Had payed for Peyton, Eli and Cooper's college? No!! They put in work like anybody else.

Haters gonna hate. SMDH

Thread over.

But not until DeepSprings explains himself. I can't wait to hear his explanation as to why dad, who allegedly got handouts on his road to fame, should repay "the community" because his son EARNED the right to be awarded an athletic scholarship. :)

Why is his offer list terrible then? UCLA still has a rich tradition and has had tons of great players come trough that program.

why would you do that? You think parents paying for everything is more important than kids learning how to earn their way in the world?

Everyone knows Puffy was thrown a rope to get his hip-hop started. I feel he could do the same by allowing another good player to UCLA. I love his music and seems to be a fairly good guy. I would just like him to say Ill cover the expense for your education. If UCLA declines then cool at least he made the offer. Maybe Puffy did and thats how it happened and was left out of the article.

Silly me...I assumed Sean Combs threw the economy a rope by building successful music, clothing and beverage businesses, employing hundreds of people and whatnot.

What was I thinking?

Why should he had? Why pay for college when you dont have to, even though your bank account could allow you to? If I had money I'd still push my kid to get a scholly, builds a good work ethic. That way he won't expect everything to be handed to him
