Put this loss on Golden.

Dude, everyone is frustrated with his boneheaded plays. No one's denying that he could be better, but he gives the team the best chance to win. This is what happens with a team after a major scandal and dramatic coaching change. Chill. Overall, we're exceeding expectations for the season. Sure, our record could be better, but we're playing with heart and determination.

You're missing my point. I don't care that he scored two points. I don't care he took an ill-advised 3 pointer that led to a quick UK score. I care that he showed no effort today. He didn't hustle at all. That's unacceptable if you're going to be the starting PG going forward.

Why do some of you always need to put the loss on one player?

We were leading as a team, and we lost as a team. That's it.

Because it's too hard to just admit that sometimes the other team is just better.

We lost to a better UK team by less than last year and play with heart on defense. . .after getting home at 3am on Friday. WTF are you complaining about?

Stop making excuses. The rest of the team played their asses off and guess what they played Miss St. Thursday too. Golden played like he wanted to go take a nap.

Golden is not a natural point guard being forced to play the point. Yet, some people only see points as being good. He had a decent number of assists (more if some others would score around the rim or hit something during that 4 minute crapshoot), and played very solid defense. No, he didn't score much, but people were calling him terrible after Thursday, though he had 20 points, several assist (several more if the wings weren't 3 for 11, and Maymon was more than 1 of 6). He didn't have a good game, but good lord, he certainly didn't lose this game for the Vols. Look at how many people turned it over in that 4 minute span. Get over it.

Seriously. Kentucky is better than us. Yeah, Golden sucked. He's also playing against a lottery pick that's a much better athlete than him, not too mention the objective was to get the ball low and get UK in foul trouble.

You're a loser if you have a full ride to UT and play with no effort against your biggest rival and the #2 team in the nation. You defenders of Golden have yet to give a single example of what he did today that helped us win.

You mad?

Golden played with effort. He was working hard on defense.

He just didn't play well.

I'm correcting it. Maymon scored a bit more often, but Richardson was 0-4, McRae 2-6, Tatum 0-7, Makanjuola 0-1, and Woolridge 2-6. Those aren't good numbers. At all. Where's the blame for that? Wait, it has to be Golden's fault, right?

There's no doubt UK is the better team. They have 5 star players coming off the bench. The reason we ALMOST beat them is because we had 8/9 guys playing their asses off today. The one guy who didn't is in the title of this thread. It takes a team effort to win a game and Golden didn't play like he wanted it.

That's the problem I have with him and nothing else. So please stop making excuses for him and saying I'm an idiot or irrational because if you think he showed effort today you are crazy.

Also, this game showed this team can play D against the best and their showings in Maui were not aberrations. They won't win a lot of games this year... but they won't get embarrassed much either. Next year is shaping up to be exciting.

Golden should be the 2 guard and is playing out of position at point. But, Martin doesn't really have good options at PG this year. Getting a true Center and a PG will solve lots of problems next year.

Too many turnovers from the team aside, this kid showed absolutely NOTHING today. Plays with no heart, no hustle, no fire. If I were Cuonzo I'd bench him and let Tatum play point guard like he did today. Absolutely horrible effort and unacceptable against the #2 team in the country and our huge rival. Piss poor.

At a minimum....pull his butt when he starts to mess up. He has bad streaks that go on for a couple of mins, so some bench time would be beneficial for him. I see CM did some of that today. But again, his options are thin at point guard.

Kills me to see him move so slow out there on the dribble....even with 15 sec left he has the same slow mo moves.

I think Stokes could grow into a true center by next year. Wouldn't surprise me at all of he's still got a couple inches left to grow.

3. Trae Golden just gave us nothing today. I don't know what it is was, but UT cannot have that kind of play if they are going to have a winning record in the SEC.

6. I don't know why they didn't get the ball down low to Maymon more. He had a mismatch.

Safe to say objective failed? Sure he threw it inside in the first half but down the stretch he tried to play hero and looked awful. You said it yourself, Golden gave NOTHING today. I wouldn't care if he had 0 points and 10 TO's as long as he played his ass off. He didn't and that's why I'm pissed and why everyone else should be pissed because the rest of the team left it all on the court.

Oh I agree. In the first half, we did a good job. Even some in the second half. Didn't do a good job late however.

I didn't think effort was Trae's issues today.

What do you think his problem was then? He's too good to play that poorly I don't care who it is.

Could be confidence. Could be Teague absolutely being in his jersey the entire night. Could be he just didn't have tonight. Not too mention part of Trae's game, taking the ball to the bucket, was taken away from him because of UK's length.

I agree he sucked today. I just don't believe effort was the issue.

Just relax man, We played good. The reason you are so down on Golden is because your expectations are too high for him. If not for him, we get beat by Miss State by double digits. Yeah he struggled shooting the ball today... it happens.

The news of today is how hard they play. I can't even really believe it. These guys are still trying to figure out who they are, but EFFORT is not the issue. Not with this team, and that includes Golden. I'm so proud of how we played today. Quit looking at stats and final scores. Record wise, this team is average. But they went toe to toe with a legit top 3 team in the nation. I for one, am pumped because the future is blinding.

It's alright to get a little happy sometimes...

very little effort the last 3min of every game we lost close. All i want is to see him finish a game win or lose.

It seems to me that Trae gets in his own head. I was kind of worried this might happen due to a sort of hangover from blowing the last possession of the MSU game. Couple a lack of confidence with the talent gap he was facing and you get what we saw.

I think part of it is the fact he's still completely learning a new position, and just thinks too much, instead of react. If you watch a Derrick Rose/Rajon Rondo play, their instincts take over. Golden doesn't have that right now.

Combo guards at the point is one trend I'll be happy to see disappear. It doesn't work well, especially with CCM's style.
