QB competition..

or maybe he was a Tyler Bray clone who wanted to get by on talent and not have to watch film and work towards being a better QB?

Gonna get a street named after you.

Its no secret one of the things coaches do, as well as some employers, is put a group under pressure to see who/what squirts out. I take CBJ at his word, he'd like RF to stay but the young man cannot see it and has elected to move on. All the yak about 1st team snaps and talent did not pan out when the bright lights came on in the spring game, out of 4 QBs, he was #4 in that game. He had never taken an SEC snap where the other 3 had. He had to be the 2nd coming of Dewey Warren to start over and above the other 3 and that was not happening. No hard feelings, I wish RF well, sorry UT was not the place for him, I'm going to concentrate on what's playing for UT, not kids that aren't and RF is not ...bye!

Lot of rednecks have been trashing Dobbs for a year and celebrating RF like he was the next PM. Turns out Dobbs was the one with a combination of maturity, intelligence and talent--deal with it. I like Worley's moxie, and he may start the season, but I predict Dobbs will be running the team before it gets too far along.

Awfully cynical. Previous staff? Maybe. This staff. Doubtful IMO.

I saw it happen under Fulmer as well.
In a perfect world we'd all like to believe that everyone is on an even playing field and that the best man win's the job. Well, that is bull ****. It doesn't work that way in business, politics or in football. Despite CBJ incredible work, I don't for one minute think he is some omni-benevolent leader who always does what is fair and just. All coaches have dispositions. In CBJ's case, his disposition is likely to benefit UT much of the time. But we've seen a few chinks in the armor. I have no connection to RF, but I am quite frustrated with a young player being maligned on a sports forum by people who don't know jack squat. Suddenly he went from being the high light film to lure prospects to being a kid who didn't want to work hard. Interesting. I've probably had more lengthy a one on one convro with Bajakian than most if any here. And I seriously doubt they are revealing personal info on RF to anyone who posts here.
Let's not forget that RF was a guy who stayed loyal while being recruited during a coaching change. The previous staff had him as the only QB while CBJ went out and got someone else. And yet he stayed and worked to win the job. I think it became apparent to RF that he was always left overs and not in the plans so to speak.

All this Ferguson stuff makes sense now. He was the only QB that Butch didnt use last year. Butch didnt like or trust him apparently. I'm just pissed that CBJ was not more forthcoming about these issues. None of this appears to be news to the players or staff. It's been a problem for a long time.

At least now we take one QB out of the equation of who will start in the fall.

Kindly stop the Ferguson debasing. Some of you folks who were all but kissing his crack are now dismissing him. Whatever the reason he's leaving, he was a Vol. he donned the orange and white, went out of the practice field and sweat. Which is a 'hail' of a lot more than any of you did. Have the dignity to wish him well. At least he gave our WRs some good practice while here if nothing else. No need to rumorize the guy, demonize him, speculatize him. I'm a Dobbs guy but am wish we had gotten the chance to see The rifleman shoot our enemies.

I literally can't even comprehend what you are trying to say. Is it favoritism like when you have 2 sons, one a step son and one biological and you just love your biological son more and intentionally make it obvious to everyone else that you love that son more?

Sounds like we need to fahr Butch then, cause that is some derp dur stuff right there.

I tend to agree. I think Dobbs is our guy the second half of this year and the next two seasons. He has way more upside than most are giving him credit for. Not sure why that is, maybe now that Ferg is gone, Dobbs will get a more unbiased look from the fans.

more forth coming to who?? He is not obligated to tell anyone what goes on in his football program but his boss. Just because we are fans doesn't mean we have to know what is happening..

Dobbs will be getting some reps this season just to prep him for next season but as long as Worley stays healthy he will be the QB..

Here's something I would like some comments on that I heard on a local radio station this morning. How about this take? The starting quarterback will depend to a great degree on the offensive line which is totally new. I think they even said that Tennessee was the only team in the country which lost its entire offensive and defensive line. If the line can pass protect, then you might favor Worley. If they have trouble in that area, then you may well need the more mobile quarterback in Dobbs.

And yet it was his practice film they showed prospective WR recruits? Somethings fishy.

Could it be that RF was not this staffs QB recruit and that Dobbs was. Could it be that one was privately shown favoritism and that play calling was tilted to mask deficiencies and promote productivity for one, while another was put in less than favorable positions. Could it be that these type of things,, unseen to the average fan, wore on a young man and made him resent being in the film*room. Maybe he saw the writing on the wall.

Why do people keep omitting the fact that Josh Malone said they showed him Worley and Dobbs too. They didn't only show RF. Malone said he liked all three.

"They've got a couple of guys pushing to be the main guy," Malone said of Dobbs, Riley Ferguson and Justin Worley. "I've seen lots of film on all the guys and I really feel that they're talented and I'm confident going into that situation."

Never said he was obligated to tell the fans, but he could have been more considerate to us given that there has been an enormous QB controversy since the beginning of last year. He could of at least said that Ferguson was not mentally ready to be QB or that it wasnt working out for one reason or another. It would have made a ton more sense and prevented hundred of VolNation posts speculating on who our QB was going to be when CBJ knew all along it would not be Ferguson.

I, for one, have been debasing ALL our QBs. Not just Ferguson. I just used the process of elimination on him since he was the only one CBJ decided was not worthy of playing time. And I was right. I knew CBJ was hiding something.

The problem was he always said RF was with the pack. People chose to not believe that and twist any praise as a sign Rf was leading the competition and was doing great.

A two QB system wouldn't surprise me. It might be kind of refreshing. Even if our O line can pass block for Worley well, why not drop Dobbs in on a second's notice and confuse the defense even further with his ability to run. As many questions as we have this year, the more we have to make other teams prepare for the better.

Is this cat for real? This has to be a troll, no?

So you're saying being stuck in a boot for months isn't going to set you back in the strength and conditioning game?

Doesn't really matter what your answer is as arguing is a moot point now that RF couldn't hack it and left.

Don't think he's a troll. Just doesn't like Ferguson. More a Dobbs guy iirc

Never once said I disliked the kid. I just wasn't clinging to the media reports about him or whatever blind faith people had in his high school highlight film or his alleged abilities.

OKie Dokie. This bud's for you:

You called Fergie out and you were right.
Now bash the kid with all your might.
Repeat the mantra as I know you will.
The boy was fit for nothing but to kill.
He was just another version of Tyler Bray.
That's the reason Butch wouldn't let him play.
Riley Ferguson as Volunteer quarterback? YUCK!
When he leaves why should you wish him luck?
You called it, yes sir you did and you were right.
Turn up the music turn on the disco spinning light
We all hail you and give our congratulations.
Now hit the floor with your dance of celebration.

I just love Volnation funning.

If you're serious about these two posts..
Otherwise, two simply hilarious trolls. :)

This! Why not utilize two QBs if they are both promising. One of them is going out after this season anyway. I say bring em both on. Dobbs is the future QB regardless. He'll play over any freshman QB we recruit.

I admit to "clinging to media reports".... and direct quotes from the coaches and players.....and video interviews of the coaches and players

Never once said I disliked the kid. I just wasn't clinging to the media reports about him or whatever blind faith people had in his high school highlight film or his alleged abilities.

Virtually none of the "Riley haters" on here has actually said "I dislike the kid".... It was evident and generally taken based on the content and criticism within their posts.

I admit to "clinging to" media reports ... and direct quotes from the coaches and players.....and video interviews of the coaches and players... and radio commentary from formers players who attended practices....
