question about homosexuality

in your opinion are the gay people born that way or do they make a choice to be gay?

I do want to ask the "born" crowd a question....

If there is such thing as a "gay" gene...

There is.

do you think it's safe to say there can be a "poor" gene??

No, but there are genes that people have that make them more likely to succeed in our culture/economy. Other cultures and economies around the world can have other advantageous genes.

What about a "successful" gene, or "lazy" gene??

See the answer above. It is complicated, but there is definitely some genetics behind it.

What about a "drunk" gene??

Yep. No doubt. There isn't a single "drunk" gene, but there are a subset of genes which makes one person more susceptible to being a drunk than another person with different alleles of those same genes.

What if that proof never comes. Does that change anything?

Not for me. I am still in the minority, and am absolutely sure there was no choice. I do feel that the longer we go without conclusive proof, though, will mean the longer it takes for widespread acceptance from the majority.

I know there have been a few comments about people 'choosing' to be gay or going from gay to straight, and I am not denying that has/does happen. However, I would feel pretty confident saying that I have probably met and interacted with more gay folks than most on here - I have never met anyone who identifies with either group. Now, I know a few that were once married, have children, but are now 'affirmed' homosexuals. Interestingly, none of these folks have ever told me they chose to be gay; rather, they tried to fight it and lead 'normal, expected' lives. Unfortunately that only worked for so long and ultimately people were hurt because of it. There really aren't any simple answers, and it really is not an easy life for many.

Just wondering if you believe god accepts homosexuals and usea the same reasoning you came up with?

I enjoy good healthy convo thanks for not being to outraged at my stance.

Assuming God exists, I certainly hope so. I can promise you that it took many years of fighting, prayer and counseling before my acceptance. Absolutely not a simple choice.

I appreciate the civil conversation too.

I just have a different out look than you no reason to be offended. In my opinion this country is the land of the free if you wanna be a homosexual and get married do it.

Need more people to recognize this. This is (supposed to be) the land of the free. You are as welcome to have a different outlook as anyone.

Lets see. I'm 10. I want to experiment with another dude. I don't care for it. I double down with a female. Female wins.

CHOICE.

You said earlier (I believe) you were raised Christian. Do you consider yourself a Christian?

**Warning OS13 personal views about life**

I believe it is between a person and God to determine what sin is. I hate when people ask if an issue is a sin. For me drinking alcohol is sinful. For others, not so much. I also see all sin as equal in the eyes of God. It's not my job to determine sin for anyone other than me. I'm nobody's judge.
I'm telling you all this so you will know I'm interested in your opinion and i'm not trying to be a schmuck.

No worries at all - I am typically very difficult to offend.

I also think that is a very fair question. I was raised Christian and lived the majority of my life that way. Now, however, I would say it's a very complicated situation. On the surface I would say 'no', not a practicing Christian. With that said, I do work to adhere to many Christian principles and I still do pray - not every day or even often, but I still do it....so, complicated.

I have more questions but Red is making me go to bed. Tomorrow?

I'll let you Google it. The Xq28 gene on the X chromosome (which means it is sex-linked) comes to mind.

I guess I should post a disclaimer:

There isn't a single, smoking gun, "gay" gene. But that is to be expected. There are very few things that have a single gene. Most phenotypes are very complex involving anywhere from a few different genes to possibly thousands of genes.

In short, scientists have shown that it is genetically based. They have found a few genes that are statistically linked to being homosexual through twins (both fraternal and identical) who were separated at birth.

There is no conclusive evidence or scientific majority on a gay gene. In fact, there are been many recent studies that pretty much shut down the gay gene studies of the early 2000s.

A lot of truth here. That wasn't politically motivated at all...

Not quite. Follow the money, always follow the money.

So, are you trying to insinuate possible double agents here?? Also, why would a gay activist, who is gay, want to even suggest there is not such a thing as a gay gene?? Your not making any sense here.
