Quinton Chievous (Tennessee commit 5/5)

Peeler should have been a perennial NBA All Star. He just had way to many off court issues.

AP was prob my favorite Tiger. Smith, Sandbothe, Coward. Chievus was fun as well. I wonder if Nelly got the bandaid idea from that.

Another indication that Coach 'Zo is still recruiting at the mid-major level. But, then again, the pickings are slim at this point.

Talked to Quentin Chievous regarding his visit this past weekend. He said that things came together at the last minute and he made the trip on Saturday. He had a great visit, lot of good things to say about Tennessee and the staff. He had a prior relationship with Tracy Webster and that's been a key factor.

He is holding a firm offer and told me that he will decide between Tennessee and St. Louis on either Thursday or Friday and he plans to sign an LOI when he makes the decision.

"I had been talking to Tennessee for a few weeks, since coach Martin got there," Chievous said, "but the visit this weekend was sort of last minute. We got down there on Saturday and I ended up being really glad that we were able to make the trip.

"I liked the school, the campus, the town, I got a great feel for everything. The facilities are just great, the arena, the practice facility and all that, and most importantly I had a chance to talk with coach Martin and the staff and get to know them a little bit. It was a great trip."

"Coach Martin let me know that they wanted me and offered me a scholarship before I left," Chievous said. "That was big obviously, and I have a lot of interest.

"I'm going to think about it for a few days and then on either Thursday or Friday I'm going to decide between Tennessee and Saint Louis, those are my final two."

"I had talked to Tennessee a little bit right after coach Martin got hired, but things really picked up when coach Webster got there," Chievous said. "He's a great guy and I really trust him. He had been up here to watch me play a couple of weeks ago and was just telling me what the situation was like there, how I could fit in with coach Martin's system and what he wants to do.

"I would have been interested in looking at Tennessee anyway, but having coach Webster there was a big plus."

Good info. Thanks!

I hope no violations were committed in this process lol...seriously.

No problem. :hi:

lol I wouldn't worry too much about violations with Martin. He has a squeaky clean record which was one of the key reasons he was hired.

Majerus could probably help this kid a lot more in the long run than Martin can. Thats if the kid actually has talent that is worth developing. Not a knock on coach Martin.

The odds of Majerus making it through the next 2-3 years as head coach are not in his favor. Healthwise and performancewise, if that's a word.

Please elaborate. I understand that Majerus is a decent coach, but so is CCM IMO. CCM is less proven and thats a given. I would just like to get more insight into why you feel that way if you don't mind.

Unless some details are provided, that sure sounds like a knock.

There are better videos of him on YouTube. Looks like he is a good outside shooter. He is called perhaps the best sleeper prospect in Illinois. Doesn't seem overly quick though.

I thought the same thing, and it looked like he walked before going to the basket (have not looked at it again to see for sure).

He is ranked like 106th at his position not in the country but at his position. Martin said he wouldn't recruit someone this year that he felt like would be recruited over in the future. If Martin isn't planning on recruiting any better players than this guy WE HAVE A HUGE PROBLEM.

Wouldn't worry. He's actively recruiting guys like Stokes, Poythress and Goodwin for 2012.
And he's in the running for Brandon Wood (Valparaiso) at the moment.

Chill out.

It's way too late in the game to be worried about rankings and stars. Right now Martin is simply looking for guys that fit the program and have the potential to be solid contributors in the future. This recruiting class he's bringing in is not a fair indicator of what players he'll be bringing in the future.

Martin is already pursuing highly ranked players for the 2012 and 2013 class FYI.

Well CCM did take kids like this at Missouri State and if you recall they played right with alot of much higher ranked teams. Alot of times it is coaching and not so much star rankings.

Go Vols!
