Racist Government official

The real lesson here is that the likes of Hannity and Beck have so riled up the right that the moment something like this comes up, everyone reacts without the facts in order to be viewed as in the right on it. This episode, including the lady's perhaps unjustified firing based on the false claims of the right wing nut who posted it, is entirely the fault of Hannity and Beck, who are both total rascist fascist sons of you know what.

I'm sure Trent Lott can empathize.

For the record I don't think this woman is a racist. She exhibited some bigotry at one point in her life but apparently has moved past that.

That said, most of those accused of being racists are not. They too may exhibit bigotry but racism is (in my mind) a real emotional hatred and feeling of superiority to another race. Examples: KKK, N Black Panther Party.

So who are the biggest offenders in this particular example?

1) Breitbart for dumping an edited video into the fray.
2) NAACP for being reactionary and using the "racist" label (later to be retracted)
3) Dept of Ag for being reactionary and forcing her resignation without any investigation.
4) WH for involvement in firing and throwing Dept of Ag under the bus
5) Commentators who bemoan the race card then played the race card.

and

6) our chief race card player - LG.

Race card throwing is wrong no matter who plays it.

It will be interesting to see how the WH backs away from this and blames it on others (again).

Think all the Fox-heads on here should be watching C N N where the farmer in question is talking about how Sherrod saved his farm. The quote in question was taken out of context from a speech she made recounting her transformation 24 years ago. This was a hatchet job by a Tea Party loyalist picked up by Fox News. Shame on them for ruining the career of a woman who helped many, especially the white farmer who was shocked and saddened by any mention this woman was racist.....

I don't condone Breitbart's actions here but this racial crap goes on way too much from all sides.

Also, her career wouldn't be ruined if the WH had any management skills whatsoever and didn't have a hissy fit and fire her without investigating the situation. They F'd right on up on this one.

look at the video, what she said was a bit mutchI thought the "own kind" comments repeated over and over again were a little over the topYea I know she is talking about 1985 but its 2010 today

Edit: I watched it again and I get it now

She was doing that to bring people in the room whom truly feel that way in and then denounce their bigotry with the truth. She is essentially admitting in the speech she had a prejudice and changed. You should look further into her father's murder. It will assuredly change your mind that she is now speaking out against racism.

Breitbart explained in detail that this wasn't about Sherrod, it was more about her audience's reaction to her bigoted comments. Her audience in this case was a local NAACP chapter

she claimed they were.

either way it was poor management by Dept of Ag.

As a matter of fact she said the WH led the charge.

Under the bus byatch.

That very well may be but still charges of racism have been brought to the fore when the NAACP launched a broadside against the tea party recently, as a matter of fact democrats and stupid left wing media hacks have been saying the same thing for quite some time now.

Maybe speaking out against racism is what really got her fired.

(I have no idea how anyone could call that hateful bastage honorable.)

A representative of the White House was in attendance.

Just so everyone will feel good congress has initiated a bill to instruct the post office to issue a Ramadan stamp.

It does not matter when she made these remarks, she made racist statements in the past and is now in a government position. A government official cannot be allowed to stay in a position when she has clearly let race sway her decision making.

Claims from the left that the WH acted too quickly to oust her so as to defuse the right wing hate machine are valid.

Claims from the right as to the same argument ring particularly hollow when it was them leading the charge to condemn her. How dare the likes of Beck and Hannity, who are the very ones pouncing on this fabrication and shrilly decrying this woman, now try to hide behind blaming the WH for fearing more of the same from them? For shame, Sean hannity and Glenn Beck! For shame!!

Defuse? Really?

You are acting as if this person was fired without a full review of her comments and the context, which means you don't know jack about the job security of guv'ment employees. The two later rights voids a previous wrong doctrine is fantasyland.

So...all of the sudden context actually matters to the media? That is weird.

Beck didn't even show the video until yesterday, and he pretty much said she should not have been fired. Get your facts straight, you have no idea what you are talking about.

I was speaking more in terms of their consistent message of trying to paint all acts of the administration as driven by reverse racism, but it is interesting that you raise this issue.

Was driving in just now and Beck is basically throwing breitbart and Hannity under the bus, while trying simultaneously to give them an out. He was saying first that he "sensed" that something was not right (implying that it was all set up by the WH to "catch" the hatemongers), and then went on about how breitbart couldn't get the whole tape because the naacp hadn't relesed it yet. Implying that breitbart got scammed by the naacp is freakin the most ridiculous thing I've ever jeard in my life!

Look, the WH shopuld not have allowed their worry over Fox and Hannity and, yes, Beck, to influence their actions without the facts. I hope they learn to stand on principle a bit more based on this.

But to now claim that the right wing radio/tv machine was "duped" into making a false story out of this by the left is patently ridiculous.

The naacp did not release the full tape, that is a fact. And no one is claiming that they were duped. They went with the story as they had it, the woman should have been fired regardless.

And I really doubt this regime fears what Fox News says about them, hell they don't care what most of America thinks, much less Fox. I doubt their has ever been a regime that stands more on principal than the current one.

LG is a ******* trip! He comes here everyday pointing out racism in the TP and then blames the right for fear mongering about racism. The left is in love with pointing out racism but expects no backlash when the tables are naturally turned. When people get attacked, they attack back

If the WH fears what Fox has to say it would only because they may believe overall public opinion may be swayed against them. Perception is reality.

It is and its a shame.

Story about this tonight on Matthews, how 1) the website that posted the video intentionally clipped all of the stuff about her explaining that her attitude was wrong and she learned that and actually helped this family with their problem as a result; 2) that everyone on the right jumped to the conclusion that she was a reverse racist and were outraged, without leanring the facts; 3) that she was ousted by the administration because they don't know how to handle the issues being raised and are too nervous about the success of Beck and Hannity in manipulating these things; and 4) they expect that tonight O'Reilly on Fox will retract and correct the reporting on this, but that neiither Hannity nor Beck will.

i'll ask you for the 5th time. if this was a white woman saying this about a black family and mentioning her father got killed by black people would you assume she had gotten over her racism?

You act like this is the first time Obama and company have been influenced by the media.

I'm sorry, I didnt see the question before.

I have no idea. I don't know how we ever would know as it is a question of the heart.

I would add, however, that what might give her claim some significant credibility is that she is talking about her transformation of letting go of the resentment at an NAACP meeting, which is presumably a place where some people are struggling with that very issue.

She's human. I imagine there are lingering feelings that she deals with all the time about it. I hardly see how that disqualifies her for the job. If anything, it makes her honest.

Because she has let race determine how much effort she would give this case. She belongs in this regime, she thinks like they do.
