Im wondering if Alcoa has some good young guys that might be coming up?
Some of Alcoa's best players other than Cobb are sophomores. They have a great freshman class too with Brandon Warren's little brother and a huge linebacker thats a sophomore or freshman that has some relation to lindsay and is good. One of their DE's #89 is about 6'5 240 could be a D1 level DE. They are stacked for years to come.

Vandy almost beat us with no stars. So I'm more interested in coachable players and players with a little talent and a lot of want to.

I suspected as much. This may be an offer that's designed to reel in some other guys in the future. Smart move imo.

Rogan was a 3* by rivals. This guy has to be really good otherwise we wouldn't offer him a scholly, because were limited this year.

We arent offering in order to get an "in" on Alcoa's younger players. He can play. And he defines the word potential. He is young and there is a good chance he continues to grow in the next couple years. He is very athletic.

he says that we are recruiting him to play QB only??? that's kind of hard to believe, esp considering we have the second coming of Danny Wurrfel in BJ. I think there may some element of looking toward future recruits in this offer.

He has QB potential but is just undersized. If he grows like its possible then he could be a good QB recruit. But I think we also realize that if he doesn't grow and cannot cut it at QB that he is athletic enough to play another position. We are too limited on schollys this year to be giving them out to players who we dont expect to contribute. No matter who is younger teammates are.

That's absurd.

Why? Get a guy that can be on campus from day one, or send them off to JUCO for 2 years and pass on another equally talented guy that can contribute right away.

This isn't directed as disrespect to Alcoa personally, I'd say the same thing about any high school that can't get athletes qualified for college.

Well, if you don't offer them right out of high school just because of their grades, someone else will, and if they go to a JUCO committed to another school, its unlikely they're going to sway your way after they go to JUCO. So why not go ahead and get the commitment right out of HS and just follow up in JUCO, not offering a scholarship later if you don't think the player is good enough. The UT staff obviously thought Duck Lindsay and Rae Sykes were good enough players to recruit knowing they were not going to get into college upon HS graduation, so why not go ahead and get a LOI signed, one that won't even actual have to be honored?
