Random Recruiting News

The Tennessean is sad now. Their sports page is about 2 pages total. front and back. They even has to use the GVX stories too. I wish the economy would hurry up and get better.

Lets start with the Head Gator himself. I am thoroughly convinced that Urban Meyer is going to be at the University of Florida for a long time. I too haven't liked the things he has said about Note Dame and I think they backfired on him some in regards to recruiting, but it is because of recruiting that I believe he stays.

The fact is, nobody works harder than Meyer and his staff at recruiting and this year it is entirely at a new level. It is just a fact that they are out there every second they can be and they are pushing trying to get the best players they can to be Gators,. Their success on the recruiting trail so far is all but unmatched this season and they have a renewed energy this recruiting season after a disappointing finish to last season.

Meyer has to see how stacked of a team he has and why in the world would he want to leave that to someone else. More than anything in this business he wants to win and he can do that with his roster easier than anyone else's except maybe for schedule differences. He has already outpaced the state of Florida in recruiting, he is currently creating a bigger gap between the talent the Gators have and anyone else in the SEC. That is the last hurdle and it may have already been crossed, to making something that will last a long, long time.

What I do believe is that Meyer won't work much past the age of 50. As much as he likes to compete and all, I believe he will want to take what he has earned and spend time with family and friends in an early retirement, not burning himself out till the end.

As for Charlie Strong and his possibility of leaving, why would he want to leave what they are building at Florida right now? Sure he can make more money as a head coach, but he would also take a chance at failure and having to step back down again. I do think he has aspirations of going on to be a head coach and if the right opportunity knocks he would take it, but I also don't think he is in a huge hurry to do so. I honestly think Strong will be around for a while and they may work some kind of bigger contract out for him to do so. And I hear he doesn't really want to leave.

Anyone think we are going to finally be able to break into Memphis with this staff....or is it going to be a few more years?

Why? Because it's a pro-Gator post? Because the Gators are the best and can't have anything negative said about them or else it's considered biased or lacks objectivity?

Seriously - just stop making pointless posts - it's almost as bad as trolling.

Urban Meyer is probably a hard worker, but to say he is the hardest worker of them all... Come on.

Talent gap is big, but UT lite, USC heavy, Chokelahoma, hve all teams that are just as talented. And Bama and Uga and LSU are just as talented.

Article was stroking CUM.

(In my best LIL' John voice) WHAUUUUUT!

My NJ Top 10 and Predictions

Ok, this is a really really down year in the state but there are still many prospects getting national attention.

1. TE Kevin Haplea- TE that is just blowing up nationally. He's getting a crazy amount of offers but i've never gotten a feel that he wants to go far from home. I think Rutgers gets him.

2. WR Shakim Phillips- Very overrated at #33 in the country but still a great receiver. I think it comes down to bc or georgia.

3. DE TJ Clemmings- The Anthony Lalota of this year's class, he goes to Notre Dame.

4. OL Jake Kaufman- Massive OL prospect, I think he goes to georgia.

5. OL Danny Foose- This will come down to bc and rutgers with ru coming out on top. He's shown too much interest in ru to not believe they will get him.

6. DL James Kittredge- Getting a lot of offers from the acc, but he goes to ru

7. WR Bennett Jackson- Solid size and great speed, just don't have a feel where he's leaning yet.

8. ATH Tejay Johnson- Speed, speed, speed I can see him at ru.

9. DB Dontae Johnson- Really starting to get his name out there but don't have a feel for him yet.

10. OL Betim Bujari- Already committed to ru

from a Rutgers insider, but look at who he predicts goes to UGA. They are a recruiting machine. Richt better win a title with all that talent soon.

You apparently missed the stupidity about working harder than everyone else and the even more absurd garbage about Strong eschewing a gear job to work for Meyer. Besides that silliness, it was informative about the homerism of the author.

Please re-read the post and tell me where it says that Meyer works harder than everyone else.

It basically says that he works at least as hard as anyone else.

The Strong comments were not one's I would have made. I'm sure Charley would like a HC job with a 300% pay increase. I didn't say the article was perfect. (Personally, I think the big obstacle for Charley getting a HC job is being a black man with a white wife. I'm not sure a lot of boosters would get a kick out of them being the leading couple of the football program. Especially in the south.)

The comments about Meyer's motivation to stay (vs. go to ND) are a more objective look at his career projection. The posts on this site run 100:1 in the imminent Meyer to ND direction. Pretty partisan in my book.

I guess there was some hyperbole in my comment. I haven't read every post on this site, so I didn't specifically know if this was the most objective. It was more like a "wow", I can't believe this was posted here.

Top 10 in Ohio regardless of class
From Duane Long, one of the more respectable analysts in Ohio.

1. Braxton Miller 6-2 185 QB Huber Heights Wayne (2011)
The best quarterback prospect from Ohio in my lifetime.

2. Steve Miller 6-5 220 DE Canton McKinley (2011)
Better than Ben Martin at the same stage of development. The best news is the Buckeyes will be hard to beat.

3. Jordan Hicks 6-3 220 LB Lakota West
The most complete linebacker prospect I have ever seen in Ohio.

4. Andrew Norwell 6-8 300 RT Cincinnati Anderson
I never thought I would rank a right tackle over an elite left tackle but Norwell dominates the line of scrimmage from his position. The best right tackle prospect from Ohio since Korey Stringer.

5. Matt James 6-8 280 LT Cincinnati St. Xavier
The more I see him the better I like him. Improved a good deal from his sophomore to
his junior year. Stronger, and always had great feet.

6. Chris Rock 6-5 255 DL St. Francis DeSales (2011)
Likely grows into a tackle but right now he is a great looking strong side DE prospect.

7. Kenny Hayes 6-6 224 DE Toledo Whitmer (2011)
I only hope to see another year with two potential five-star DEs in Ohio again.

8. Scott McVey 5'11 215 LB Cleveland St. Ignatius
Look at what Tyler Moeller does. McVey is bigger and better in coverage. The lack of respect he is getting is laughable. Makes plays all over the field, in attack and in coverage. Read-react-run is top drawer.

9. Andrew Donnal 6-7 270 LT Anthony Wayne
The raw potential is unlimited. He is so athletic he would get a shot at defensive tackle at some places. Already filling out that long frame. Has the wingspan you want in a left tackle.

10. Spencer Ware 5-11 230 RB Cincinnati Princeton
With this kids arm and experience as a quarterback he could make the wildcat a base formation.

.

Here are some highlights:
1. Sentreal Henderson
6. QB Blake Bell
8. QB Jake Heaps
9. QB Devin Gardner (who is this)
18. QB Phillip Sims
25. QB Connor Wood
27. JACQUES SMITH
34. QB Austin Hinder
48. Ego Ferguson
49. Lamarcus Joyner
51. QB Terrance Broadway
54. Justin Maclin
57. Kelcy Quarles
71. Markeith Ambles

85. QB Pete Thomas
88. Jeff Luc
92. Cody Riggs
95. Patrick Swilling Jr.
98. QB Munchie Legaux
100. QB John Boisture

Apparently Mr. Lemming doesn't think it is a down year at QB. He has 3 QBs in the top 10 and 10 QBs in the top 100. Scroggins is not listed...

DEVINGARDNER8N08150.JPG

Dual-threat quarterback
Detroit (MI) Inkster

Ht: 6-foot-4 (Events)
Wt: 195 lbs
Class: 2010 (High School)

Commited to Michigan on 4/3

Lemming is smoking crack not list Scroggins in the top 10.

But I'm glad someone else is finally hearing about Braxton Miller. He's probably the #2 player in the country behind only Teddy Bridgewater at this point. Too bad he's an OSU lock.
