Random, Thoughts, X,XXIV

Anyone here retired... any issues in the transition? I wasted a day thinking about it. Neighbor tells me he will train me... first thing he said was a 2pm nap.
Retired here. No daytime issues; instead, I’m endlessly grateful, and so was Hubs when he retired. I do seem to have a lot of dreams involving work, where there is some sort of change approaching, and I’m supposed to do something or other, but I’m not worrying about it. I left as cleanly as I could. This seems to be the retiree version of the dream where you walk into a classroom and realize that everyone is taking a final exam. Or that you’re riding on a city bus and realize that you’re only wearing underwear.

Pragmatic stuff:
- are you covered for health insurance between retirement date and age 65 for Medicare? Consider whether there are any procedures that you should get done while still employed. This includes going to the dentist and eye doc for any twiddling that needs to be done. And yes, a colonoscopy. If you aren’t at 65 yet, investigate ACA (aka Obamacare) to bridge you until 65.
- when is your retirement date again? I have March stuck in my head for no reason. If you are retiring in the first part of 2021, and if you can afford to do so, increase your 401k contributions to hit the max (including catch-up) by the last paycheck.
- any other benefits/perks connected to your job? Windows updates, discounts for local attractions, etc. If you want these things, do it now while you still have access to your work email address.
- longer range stuff: work out if it’s worth converting any of your 401k and/or traditional IRA to a Roth IRA.
- more longer range stuff: investigate whether delaying Social Security is worthwhile, including checking out survivor benefits (I think I remember that you lost your wife recently.) Try this free calculator: Open Social Security: Free, Open-Source Social Security Calculator

Meanwhile, start recasting retirement: instead of thinking what are you retiring FROM, start focusing on what you are retiring TO. Every day when I wake up (around 7:30 - 8:00 - 8:30 - whenever), I have an entire day ahead of me that I can fill in pretty much however I want. Take that gift and run with it!!!

I am not retired, but I imagine the first thing to get used to would be getting used to not having a schedule anymore, which that would be the hardest thing for me to get used
to.

Quick, anyone. I’m texting with my granddaughter about school. English, she’s doing papers on songs. she did one on Cats In The Cradle. We had a good discussion on that one and it’s meaning. Now her real pick is Taylor Swift’s Exile. (I don’t need to hear from you Tay Tay crazies) I don’t care for her music, but will listen for my granddaughter in a moment, but I need the frigging condensed version.

I do not know the song but glanced at the lyrics.
Metaphors.
Actually, some pretty good ones you could write about.
Crown and exile suggest loyalty and abandonment.
I have mine do "The Final Cut" and "Bat out of Hell" (once parent letters are signed). HAHA

Edit: and why the side door. ????
