Rank Our Rivalries !!!

1. Florida - This team does not deserve an explanation.
2. Alabama - See explanation number 2.
3. Auburn - I liked playing this team. Gave me something else to get excited about.

Kentucky and Vanderbilt are not "rivals" to me. These teams might be rivals to them, but we beat up on them so much that it really doesn't matter. Whoo hoo, Vandy you finally got us a few times the last few years, but the series ain't pretty.

Georgia - Really good team I can have a friendly rivalry with, I guess. Games always seem to be close, but UGA seems to underachieve. Oh well. Its still really fun.

Since like 1971, we've beaten Florida one more time than Vandy has beaten us...

it really all depends on what the a person defines as a "rival".

Is it a school that you hate just because you hate them and has no bearing on anything else? If so, sure Bama falls in that catagory. So does USC v Clemson, Ga v Ga Tech, UF v FSU, even TxAM v Tx now.

Or is it a school that not only you hate but the outcome of the game has direct and meaningful impact on your season? If so then UF and Ga are for us since the loss or win significantly help/hurt your standings in the division. Same for UF v Ga, Aub v Bama, OM v MSU.

Neither is right and neither is wrong. For me I consider UF more and that has come with the move to divisions. A win or loss against Bama is only 1 game. A win or loss against UF or Ga is 2 wins (actually 1.5 rounded up) since its a tie breakers. I'd take a loss to Bama every year if it would guarantee a win over UF and/or Ga. Cant win the SEC if you dont play in the SECCG, cant go to the game without winning your division, cant win the division without beating those two.

And what's your point? I guess you didn't read the rest of the post? I think you cherrypicked what you wanted to read.

Vandy hates Tennessee and they think we are rivals. Tennessee beats up on Vandy all the time, and doesn't think that we are "rivals" ... at least IMO. I don't consider them a rival.

Florida doesn't consider Tennessee a real "rival" and thinks we suck. They always seem to beat us, but look at VN. They all think Florida is one of our biggest rivals.

So again, what is your point?

Gator, I'll explain why it hurts.

Since my birth in 1988, the Gators own the series 18-6.

Bama leads just 14-12.

Now, I don't mind losing to Bama when they absolutely destroy every other team they play and roll on to another NC year after year after year. However, I HATE losing to a 4-8 Florida team. And no matter how bad you guys are, you somehow always beat us. I think it changes soon against both UF and Bama (history shows streaks in the Bama series), but for now, we are Floridas *****.

I understand.

But, when you lose to Florida, do you have to deal with it in your neighborhood?

It's the old joke about a man who strips naked and howls at the moon. If he does it downtown, that's one thing. If he does it in your living room, that's another problem.

True rivalries, imo, hit home in your living room.

A practical example of what I mean here.

Let's say, Tennessee beats Florida 59-0 this season. The verbal abuse I will have to take will not be from Tennessee fans (except when I am on this site, but that's self-inflicted). It will be from FSU and Georgia fans because that's who I rub elbows with in my day to day life.

Hm. I would think my point is fairly obvious. You say Vandy is not a rivalry because we beat them too often to be considered as such, but say Florida is our number one rivalry-when in fact we've beaten them a whopping one more time than Vandy has beaten us. If anyone is cherry picking, that would be you.
I guess now you are saying FL is the team you hate more but the game isn't necessarily a rivalry? I didn't mean for you to take it personal lol, but that does seem like a double standard, doesn't it?

No, the rivalry doesn't seem to be a rivalry for Florida fans. If you ask them, their rivals are say, LSU, Florida State, and Georgia (WLOCP) such.

To them, Tennessee is nothing right now, and it really doesn't help that we haven't done much right in the last decade. But Tennessee's rival is Florida, and Bama, also used to have Auburn (before the split) and somewhat Georgia.

We could care less about Vandy, or Kentucky. At least that's my feelings.

Other VN posters hate Vandy and think they are a rival to them because they have friends who like to harp them or other things. I personally show the Vandy people the stats and laugh at them.

Haha well I live in South Carolina, so I see a lot of UF, UGA, and S Car fans. I still consider SCar our *****. UGA normally seems to go either way, so no real beef with them either. UF, however, falls on my birthday weekend most years, and has ruined them for the last 9. So needless to say, I wouldn't mind going 1-11 as long as the 1 was UF haha.

Edit: I never want to finish 1-11...but you get the point.

Ahhh gotcha. Yea I agree then. After living in FL for several years, we could lose the next 50 games and they'd still top my list of teams I hate most

Alabama is number one by far. Then Florida. Georgia is a very distant 3rd.

There can be only one ... 1 toothed lice infested dull eyed thrice married most recently to your step sister who is also your cousin who your daddy or was told he was your daddy divorced ... Bammer!

1. bama
2. florida
3. *vandy

*Vandy would likely be #2 for me if Franklin was still there; for now, they are #3, but once we stomp them this season, and the balance of the universe is put back in order, uga will move back into the #3 spot and vandy will fall back into an afterthought, where they belong.

I know this subject has been beaten to death, but I am surprised Florida ranks this high for people.

I know what has taken place on the field, but what makes a rivalry a big deal (at least to me) is that it doesn't escape your everyday life.

You run into people who cheer on that school at the post office, at the grocery store, at your child's little league game, your next door neighbor, etc, etc, etc.

Given the geography involved with Florida and Tennessee, I can't imagine losing to Florida is worse than losing to Alabama, Georgia or South Carolina. Unless there are more Gators walking around in the state of Tennessee than I realize.

Unfortunately there are. Yes.

Although... They arent quite as prevelent over the past 3 or so years. Most of the bandwagoners have put their gear aside for now.

1 Bama
2 Florida
3 Vandy

and man do i hate vandy. i dont care if we beat them every year from now on, i will still hate them. it kills me that Franklin left vandy before Butch could whip his ass

1 Bama (oldest and best)
2a FL (although it's become a little less relevent despite our losing streak)
2b UGA
4 Auburn (although we don't get to play them as much any more)
5 Vandy/UK (sure it's lopsided but it dates way back and it fun to beat them)
7 SC (only this high because of Spurrier)
8 LSU
9 Ole Miss/Miss ST
11 Ark
12 Notre Dame (only a handful of games but they've mostly been good ones)
13 Memphis (same reason as Vandy and UK)
14 Mizz

A&M doesnt count until we play them as a conference opponent.

My list is pretty much this. People are forgetting how big the UT/Auburn Rivalry was before the split. I still hold a grudge against them.

One of those azzholes walking around here is to many.

I may switch three & four, but great list overall.

Major points for not erroneously labeling South Carolina as USC.

Boy does that grind my gears.

USC is in South Central close to the Pacific Ocean and nowhere near the Atlantic Ocean, as the school in South Carolina is. If you're too lazy to type South Carolina then quite staying up so late @ night and get yourself some rest. Then wake-up nice and refreshed, full of vigor & strength, forthrightly prepared to brave the monumental task of typing "South farckin Carolina". I know it can be hard and it has destroyed many a good soul, but I have faith in you and believe you can do it.

But, if it's the middle of the day or in the afternoon or evening and you can't type South Carolina, then you are just pathetic and there may be no help for your imposing laziness and petulance. But one never knows when concerning delicate matters such as the one @ hand. So there could be hope for you yet.

So here we go people, let's try it. All in together now, on the count of 3,

South Carolina.

How hard can it really be?

I just did it. And, with a little bit of help, so can you.

Thank you very much.

Mini rant over.

Hope your period is over soon.
