The New Orleans Times Picayune is rating the SEC football coaching jobs from least to most desirable for a prospective head coach. So far here's where they are:
12. Vanderbilt
11. Kentucky
10. South Carolina.
They add one school per day. You can check it out at nola.com.

Would agree with Vandy and KY. Think MSU and/or Ole Miss might rank above SC right now. Spurrier is putting them back on the map.

I think the South Carolina job is a heckuva spot for someone that is willing to be there for 10-12 years. Think what you will about Spurrier, that school has a lot of upside potential.

I agree completely. To rank that job next to Kentucky and Vandy is ridiculous. They have good facilities, a big stadium, great attendance, a nice city etc.

I can't wait to hear an explanation of why a job in Starkville, MS isn't one of the bottom 3 in the SEC. That place is horrible.

My ranking:

12. Vanderbilt
11. Kentucky
10. Miss State
9. Ole Miss
8. Arkansas
7. South Carolina
6. Alabama
5. Tennessee
4. Auburn
3. Georgia
2. LSU
1. Florida

That's a good list. I think you could probably throw #1-#6 in a hat and draw them out in any order and be OK.

Mississipi is a very rural state, and a very poor one, therefore S. Carolina has better fan support. These factors also hurt recruiting also. They are hard pressed to pull good players out of Ala. because those players go to AU and the Tide, or TN.(A. Sears, and Swain).

I'd say that Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, UT, and Florida are all highly coveted jobs. All are schools with a commitment to playing at a nationally competitive level. After that group, its a big drop off.

But I do maintain that SC could join them if they got a coach in there willing to devote his career to putting them on the national map.

i will say that i would have florida at the top. they are in a great state for recruiting. i would put tennessee next because of tradition and their history, not to mention the support i believe is good.

the other teams, may be in a better spot right now, but i doesn't mean it is a better place to coach. georgia i belive is good because of mark richt. take him away and soon i believe georgia would not be so high on everyone's list.

I don't think a single head coach in America would rate UT as a better job than Florida or LSU. Tennessee is a great job with great pay and facilities, but the city itself and surrounding areas don't offer quite as much as LSU and UF.

Still, Georgia that low? They have a good city, great football program, they're clearly the best team in their own state, have plenty of talent with which to recruit... I don't see how UGA is not in the top 3/4 of that list.

Yeah, Athens is a great city, and not far from Atlanta if you want the metropolis effect. Alabama's job is very similiar to Tennessee's, in terms of tradition, expectations, and surrounding areas. Auburn, too.

I disagree. UT would be more attractive due to the following. There are no other major schools to compete with in state, tons of money, huge stadium, strong fan following, great facilities. UF has FSU, Miami and 2 pro teams. I think UT is one of the most attractive HC jobs in the US.

well i found it hard to choose between alabama, auburn, and georgia. maybe 6 is a stretch, but no higher then 4, and even there i would take auburn. i woudl say 5 at most, yes.

Yes, Tennessee does have a lot to offer. But there is one thing missing. In-state talent. Your built-in recruiting pool is a huge factor when considering a coaching job, and that is something Tennessee just doesn't have.

You also have to toss in that UT doesn't have 1/100th of the in state high school talent that Florida has. LSU has better in state talent, too.

I don't think UT is even one of the top 10 JOBS in college football, all things considered.

Though, some coaches who went through the UT system would rank it #1.

I would disagree somewhat with that, once again, due to the lack of in-state talent.

UT still has a big name in college football. even with less in state talent, our recruiting has been good (not last year) because tennessee has been tradtionally good for a while, and people want to play here.

I think your highly overating instate talent. That doesnt matter nearly as much as it used to. The kids want to win, play and be on TV. Look how many kids we bring in from FL. Look how many kids from TX OU brings in. UT has everything a coach would want.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I didn't know UT was a big name in college football.

My list. Current positives from HC do not give a boost to programs like GA and SC. We are looking at the program, with no regard to current coach.

1. Florida
2. LSU
3. Tennessee
4. Auburn
5. Georgia
6. Alabama
7. Arkansas
8. USC
9. Ole Miss
10. Kentucky
11. Miss State
12. Vanderbilt
