Real HC Options

I agree its time to let martin go so my names are and these should be realistic
- Donnie Tyndall - Southern Miss
- Steve Prohm - Murray State
- Tim Cluess - Iona
- Matt Painter - Purdue
- Buzz Williams - Marquette

Obviously I would rather have pearl but I highly doubt that will happen so this is a list of guys I think could do better than CCM

As long as booger eater and the rest of the highers ups remain in charge, CBP will not be walking back through that door. We also know that UT won't spend the money to hire a real coach, so coaches like Smart, Marshall, Howland, etc. won't be considered.

Accordingly, we will be hiring another mid-major, so who is out there? I've heard Pitino, Jr. mentioned some and Rick Byrd would probably be an option as well. Let's hear some other REALISTIC options.

Don't know why Howland is a consideration. He brought UCLA to shambles. Players just quit on him near the end. Former players hated him. Why do we want that?

Bruce Pearl is the only one I want. I really do not care about any of the want a be coaches. For me, Bruce, or just do away with basketball.

What about Pitino, Jr.? I don't know much about him other than last name. I also think Rick Byrd will get a look, although this would not excite the fan base very much, I think he is a solid coach who is used to doing more with less.

Fair enough, friend. Thanks for backing it up.
I could see a southern boy stuck up there in Iceland wanting to get his family back closer to his roots.
Think he'd give Capillary a run for his money.
Best name I've heard so far if Bruce ain't comin.
Pshaw, I'd take him over Bruce.

Brace yourself for impact, buddy. People won't like that you want him over Bruce. My list is something like...

1) Bruce
2) Buzz
3) Pitino Jr.

The Cheek's not going to swallow his pride.
Need 1 more petition.
Far Cheek.

Its tough to accept but if we refuse to rehire Bruce we should lower our standards and hire a good or decent proven coach who's having a tough time at a D1 school....this gets him out of a difficult situation and restarts his clock and gives him a fresh start....

To shambles? 3 Final Fours, and made the NCAAT 2 of his last 3 seasons, including going 25-9 his last season.

Hahaha - I was thinking the same thing! Who wants that when we can go cheap and hire us another mediocre, mostly unproven, mid-major coach.

I wish like hell he was, but I really don't think Cheek and the others will allow it, so who else you got?
...is do the higher ups care more about the Tennessee basketball program or personal pride. I hardly think Pearl's offense was anywhere close to Bobby Petino's. Give me a break! Cheek would lie to the NCAA if his career was on the line. So what if you gave a kid a barbecue sandwich!

No guru, but I'll give my opinion.

As of the day he was fired up to about a month ago, I thought there was 0 chance. I still think it's unlikely, but I admit I think the chances have definitely increased.

I think Cheek is a major hurdle, if he gives it the green light the chances become very real.

If Cheek's the problem, replace him.

Lawrence Frank=another Kevin Oniel . He would have you wishing cuonzo was back.

If his language is as colorful as Kevin's, then he is a take. Nothing better than sitting behind the UT bench during the O'neill era.

Definitely do not see Buzz leaving Marquette a basketball school in a basketball conference for UT, he might entertain the offer in an attempt to garner more money from Marquette.

If UT doesn't rehire Pearl a lot of the reds will be doing this...

And what do we have if we keep him?

Tennessee has served out our Bruce Pearl show clause no post season play for 3 years. Let's right a wrong.

Before yesterday, I would have encouraged you to just let it go. After a night's sleep and long thought on the matter, I still believe it would take a good attorney and a couple of weeks of meetings with the NCAA, but if that Cheeky fellow and his buddies got behind it, Bruce could be re-instated. Other coaches have done worse, and gotten a slap on the wrist.

As of now, the only time Bruce could be re-hired is after August. And that means at least a one year set-back in the recruiting class. Cofer might stick as a legacy, but the others will probably bail.

The only coach outside of Bruce Pearl I would consider is Gregg Marshall. Hamilton passed him over twice, and now it will take paying him the big bucks. But if Tennessee cannot outbid the Shockers, we are in more dire straits than we may realize.

If there is a coaching search, I believe whoever Hart hires will probably be someone on few people's radar. And I hope he gets it right.

I don't care who it is as long as they hire a proven winner who won't have the ncaa breathing down our necks. I'm done with the experimental hires

I agree with 100% of this and believe that UT's admin was shown two sets of penalties - one for if Pearl was retained and another (the one we accepted) for if Pearl was fired by the time of the hearing in June of 2011. My only gripe is why Hammy was allowed to make that hire when it was apparent that he would be stepping down as well and had such an abysmal track record of hires in the first place (we never even talk about firing Delmonico to replace him with Raleigh).

IMO, this was the worst fire/hire decision he made (yes, worse than Kiffin). It was questionable from the very beginning and Raleigh horribly underperformed as a coach.

As to the thread, I would not compeletely rule out Pearl, either. There are no credible comments coming from within the UT Adm. so ruling him out is a mistake this early.
