Recruiting Central

If Warren goes to FSU as predicted this may just classify as a Black Monday.

Not the end of the world, but a pretty brutal day nonetheless.

Hey, everthing's cool. I'm not scouting tall bridges, checking for sharp knives or looking for that tarnished bullet. BUT let's all get this straight up front UT & recognize this here & now has now become a second tier fb program. Due solely to a lack of response or leadership from CPF for 6 years. True we had a top recruiting class last year & the year before & the year before, and the year....

Under this Head Coach it has resulted in absolutely nothing and quite frankly many of the top flight recruits have not developed one squat. Plain & simple.

If there are not changes & I mean MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS this up coming season, you get what you settle for!

lets just get something straight here. we could have gotten baskins and didnt want him and pulled the scholly offer. so dont try and make it sound like we "lost" out on him. we were never going to take dekota watson so no need to worry about that. Ellis??? If you really thought we had a chance you need to put the pipe down.

the only ones you can really say we lost out on is Calhoun and Hawthorne and maybe warren later tonight. still if we get warren, that will make up for the rest of the day. warren, riley, sheppard, and mullis to round out the class. Realistically i didnt even think we had enogh schollys for that. and plus you have to remember cutliff and trooper have a couple ulysses alexander out there.

Lay off the pipe man. we are a year removed from going to the sec championship and now we are piss poor bad. god yall really piss me off on this board... same people that were calling us the best team in the nation in the preseason... same people callin us bad now.

That may be the most off base you have ever been (and that's saying something). If we were "second-tier" then why was it a huge story of UT's one bad season? Why did all our rivals get their shots in when they could? Because they, along with the Vol faithful, know that this was a glitch, nothing more.

When UT wins 9+ games this season are you going to come back and apologize? No, and neither will most others. I'm tired of all this negative crap lately. CPF is going down b/c he can't pull recruits from their verbal commits? The only reason it's expected is b/c he's done it before, but very few coaches can so that's saying something.

The underlying current is that the bad news is the continuanation of a terrible year. To stay relevant the Vols cannot have many seasons like last year, and they cannot afford to be out of the top ten in recruiting for too long. People are just a little depressed.

2345, I am getting concerned about Mullins and I am not sure that Sheppard/Riley are 100% vol (probably are though). We could finish pretty weak unless Fulmer has some suprises that no one knows about. At this point finishing with the 4 you mention would be pretty solid but I don't think it's going to happen.

so i am guessing a top 25 recruiting class (think about it, there where nearly 60 teams with better records than us) and we got a better recruiting class then 40+ of them, and we are having a bad recruting year??? are yall flippin serious???

i told yall we werent gonna get these guys. but yall said sure we will. then we will be top 15. :eek:lol:

what happened?

it really dosent matter though. it means nothing.

Hey I know about depressed. I am the lone Vol fan in an office w/ USC, Va Tech and Penn St alums. I got abused every week. None of them ever made any comments about us dropping in respect. They all commented on how UT was so good in '04 and dropped. Every one of them thinks we will be back, but some Vol fans can't see that. Maybe it takes being removed from the TN media to realize it.

true but still i dont see why we are dogging fulmer for his recruiting efforts. for the way he has recruited after this season, and what he has had to work with as motivation to get kids to come here, you have to give the man his dues. I mean a top 25 class for a 5-6 team can anyone do better than that??? dont think so...

Just common sense. It is hard to compete and win consistently with inferior athletes. One bad year does not a program kill, but when you combine it with last season and consider the fact that Kentucky is not too far away from you on the recruiting board, well then it gives the appearance that your program is either dead or playing opossum.

Did you just say the vols have inferior atheletes? you my friend are trippin. UT has proably some of the best atheletes in the world let alone college football. And all they have recruited this season is very good atheletes who can run with the ball and run to the ball.. Kentucky not that far from us? well if you are going to say that then look at it this way.. we are closer to florida than kentucky is to us? does that mean we are creaping up on the number 1 class in the nation lex???

I am not dogging Fulmer at all, just stating that wouldn't be a very strong finish.

i never said last year we were going to win the NC. i stated that we would be 7-4. i'm also stating the same for this year maybe worse. the team on offense has to improve dramatically and i see no reason for it to. lost almost the whole offensive line, riggs gone, and you still have a bunch of wide recievers that don't have a clue. i won't even mention the QB situation. most of our defense is gone we will be young and the combination sounds as bad a fulmer's excuses. and the secondary was the worst part of the D and they return the starters. i won't say we are worthless and can't win, we have talent, but i agree the coaching has been terrible for 5 years. fulmer led us to be an elite program from the mid to late 90's, i will agree with real vol that we are no longer an elite program. i'm not even sure if we will finish 3rd in the east this year. all you guys that say that it was one bad year, haven't been watching us play then. our offense stinks every year and our D sometimes is good and other times well not so good. the fact is the rest of the sec has caught us and passed us by, hell ole miss is going to have a better recruting class. next year i believe all this will show with another poor showing on the field and fulmer resigning by the end of the season. the only way fulmer can survive is if Cut bails him out and i just don't see it happening. i didn't say it couldn't happen i'm just saying that i'm not optomistic.

Maybe things have changed since I looked last oh great prognosticator. But UK is hovering around thirty and the Vols are at 22 to 24 depending on the rankings. That is 6 spots give or take a few. Whereas Fla is 1. That is 21 spots. Has UK dropped?

oh not you I am saying just everyone that has. Sorry should have clarified that. I am just ralied up over some people that dont think before they post. You know like how i use to be ;) . really though i blew that hawthorne thing hard. Hope warren doesnt make me look stupid...

1. Florida 9-3
2. Texas 13-0
3. USC 12-1
4. Georgia 10-3
5. Notre Dame 9-3
6. Penn State 11-1
7. LSU 11-2
8. Michigan 7-5
9. Pittsburgh 5-6
10. Mississippi 3-8
11. Oklahoma 8-4
12. Ohio State 10-2
13. Miami (Fl) 9-3
14. Auburn 9-3
15. Oklahoma State 4-7
16. Arizona 3-8
17. Texas Tech 9-3
18. UCLA 10-2
19. Texas A&M 5-6
20. Tennessee 5-6
21. California 8-4
22. Clemson 8-4
23. Florida State 8-5
24. North Carolina 5-6
25. Alabama 10-2

This is the rankings on scout vs. last season's records. I would say that, under the circumstances, UT is doing pretty well. (Good to see us second-tier teams can still find it into the top-25 list)

warren + riley + sheppard + mullins = top 15 class. Not bad for a regular season record that probably had us ranked about 75th(wild guess). What can I say, my glass is usually half full.

Sheppard implied today that "LSU fans shouldn't be too worried" in an artilce from the rivals LSU site. Take that fwiw. There are also some nasty rumors flying around about Pope after the whole USC thing...... we'll see I guess.

List down to:

TE - Goggans - us or bama
DT - Mullins - Us or AU - know tomorrow - Wednesday
LB - Sheppard - tossup UT or LSU
LB/S - Riley - tossup UT or LSU - I think LSU has an edge here
S - Greg Davis - probably depends on Riley

Patterson is michigan or S Car. and Warren is FSU

You forgot Warren and Heath.

I'd say:
Goggans-75% UT, 25% Auburn
Warren-75% FSU, 25% UT
Mullins-65% UT, 35% UNC
Sheppard-60% LSU, 40% UT
Riley-60% LSU, 40% UT
Heath-95% WVU, 5% UT
Davis-???
