You forgot Warren and Heath.

I'd say:
Goggans-75% UT, 25% Auburn
Warren-75% FSU, 25% UT
Mullins-65% UT, 35% UNC
Sheppard-60% LSU, 40% UT
Riley-60% LSU, 40% UT
Heath-95% WVU, 5% UT
Davis-???
I'd say you are not far off. If that holds true we only close with Goggans and Mullins.

UT gets about the same quality of athletes as the rest of the big programs. They come in on a level playing field. What happens is that the learning curve has dropped in the past few years. While all schools start off even, we either remain at the starting point or regress while the other big programs have developed their talent to even greater levels. Look at the top recruits we've brought in and what happened to them all. Our numbers in the pros have dropped with those going pro not being the caliber we used to generate. CFN even brought up all the busts that UT has had just in the class of 2002 alone. If we don't develop this quality talent, we lose out on the learning curve and thus lose out in the big games. Look at who we compete with: Auburn, UF, LSU, GA. We get just as good talent as they do. But what happens? We lose or their top talent runs circles around us.

Warren spurns Vols' advances, picks FSU

KNOXVILLE — For the second year in a row, Tennessee's football team has struck out with the state's top prospect.

Brandon Warren, a tight end/defensive end from Alcoa High School, announced last night that he would sign with Florida State.

A year ago, Goodpasture's Patrick Turner spurned Tennessee in favor of Southern Cal.

In Warren's case, he said playing for Bobby Bowden was a huge factor in his decision.

"I get a chance to play for probably the greatest coach in college football history," Warren said. "Being coached by him and playing for Florida State is all I've ever wanted to do."

Even though Warren lives less than 20 minutes from UT's campus, he grew up following the Seminoles. He committed to Florida State in the summer, but decided to take a second look at Tennessee following his senior year of high school.

The 6-foot-2, 235-pound Warren took official visits to Florida State two weekends ago and to Tennessee last weekend.

In the end, he decided to stick with the Seminoles and made his announcement last night on the Hound Dogs Locker Room Signing Day Show.

He admitted that family members preferred to see him stay closer to home and play for the Vols.

"That was hard," Warren said. "It was tough, man. It's hard to see your mom cry."

Warren is rated by Rivals.com as the No. 2 weak side defensive end prospect in the country.

"My guidance counselor pointed this out to me," Warren said. "I always put other people before me with stuff. This was a situation where I had to put myself first. I had to be happy, and I think I'll be most happy at Florida State."

Warren’s decision to sign with the Seminoles is likely to help the Vols with tight end Michael Goggans of Alexander City, Ala. Goggans had earlier committed to UT, but also took visits to Alabama and Auburn.

National Signing Day is tomorrow, and the Vols have 24 commitments. Among the players they’re still waiting on are defensive tackle Aleric Mullins of Wendell, N.C., safety Greg Davis of Blue Ridge, Va., and linebackers Kelvin Sheppard and Perry Riley of Stone Mountain, Ga.

Sheppard and Riley, high school teammates, had earlier committed to LSU.

Defensive tackle Adam Patterson of Columbia, S.C., cut the Vols yesterday, while receiver Tim Hawthorne of Homewood, Ala., chose Auburn.

UNTIL UT's Football Staff gets their act together & UT digs out of mediocrity, there will be other top flight in-staters that spurn the Vols.

Six years of offensive slippage is / was inexcusable.

#2 rated DE, pretty sure our offense didn't play much of a factor. (I realize he is also a TE) Even if it was, he lived very close during the best offensive years in UT history in the late '90s. He also watched Cut turn out a top-flight TE to the NFL in Whitten.

He grew up wanting to play @ F$U, give it a rest. Very few people get that opportunity to live out their dreams and I feel glad for him. Your constant bashing of the team and staff is old man. Sometimes the glass can be half-full too...

Sorry. But six years of a stagnant offensive scheme was getting much older.

I believe most of the recruits regardless of o or d are really looking for Championships of some sort. Of course, that's not the only reason, but most top flight athletics that have a choice of selecting top flight programs certainly consider NC or Conference Championships in the selection process.

Granted the glass can be half full, be it seldom fills completely with leaks or shoddy materials attempting to hold it together.

Anyway, you are right. I definitely believe UT has enough pre-existing talent to be competitive. Coaching is the question.

Here's a quote by Goggans on Warren going to FSU. He's made his decision and told the coaches, but has not gone public.

"That's even better for Tennessee's chances," he said Monday night. "They really don't have a set H-back. Chris Brown was the only guy that was versatile that could move like an H-back and shift out of the backfield."

Also, this doesn't sound like UT coaches but rather bama and 'burn coaches.

"Right now, since I told the coaches what I'm going to do," the 6-foot-2, 250-pounder said, "some of the coaches got a little mad.

Riley is going to LSU and Sheppard has also thrown Maryland on his table.
I don't buy it. I think they are both coming here.

I guess Bowden did a better job of telling Warren what he wanted to hear than Fulmer did. There's no way Bowden lets a talent like him waste away at TE, a position the Noles utilize less than we do. Warren wants to be a TE but I'll be surprised if he's anywhere other than DE. That being said I wish Warren the best. Some people give him a bad rep for being kicked out of two games this year but the truth is he's a good person from what I hear. I'm truly happy for him being able to live out a life long dream. It jsut stinks losing the best player in the state....AGAIN!!!!

Is mullins announcing today? Then Goggans tomorrow? Sheppard and Riley on Wednesday?
I thought they were all waiting until Wednesday.

Apparently, even after 'Black Monday', the sky isn't falling. We're 22nd on Rivals, 20th on Scout, and 15th on ESPN in the recruiting rankings. That's the first time I've seen ESPN and I was surprised. If we hold onto Goggans, get Mullins, Sheppard and either Riley or Davis, we will be top 15 on all three. Also, I see we're in the running for Josh Johnson. If I'm not mistaken, wasn't he a huge recruit for Georgia in the 04' class. If so and we pick him up that could be a diamond in the rough that nobody is talking about. 6'3", 225, 4.5 who was highly rated out of highschool sounds pretty good to me.

No chance on Geathers, Whitehead or Johnson. Hawthorne to AU. Heath doesn't look good. Patterson is starting to look like a reach

I never really thought we had a chance with Whitehead. But, now he is saying he can't up his mind yet because UTK really gave him something to think about on his trip. He said is was very impressive, much more than he expected. That is at least a little good news.

Anyone know any of the staff? Or know someone who knows someone on the staff? I'm wondering what their behind closed doors reactions are to all the announcements yesterday. Specifically, I wonder if they were surprised because they expected anyone to announce for UT yesterday.

He announced Louisville today.

even though i am going to be attending Louisville next year for a music performance major, i love tennessee and always will. i am kinda happy because now i get to watch the "manchild" whitehead play at UofL

Louisville. What!!! Why would a player like him choose Louisville. Brohmn and M. Bush both had ties to Louisville so their decisions could be understood(back in the day). At least, like hillbilly said, he won't be killing our QB's anytime soon.

Riley has told his coach and others at school he's going to LSU. He could be lying of course but he's telling everyone that LSU is the one.

After the year Elvis Dumerville had it's not surprising...Louisville has quite a few from the Bham area on the team as well as other parts of Bama...They play in the Big East so there only competition is WVU and USF....So much easier road to get to a BCS bowl game...But like yall are saying glad he is not going after our QB's
