I suppose U. of Louisville, U. of Memphis, Ole Miss, Auburn, Clemson, etc. all their eyes focused on UT.

Yeah right....

You missed my point. Because of some potential scrutiny, WE tiptoed through the process. My point had nothing to do with the teams we competed with. It was only a thought anyway.

Freak had Tori Childers on the board. I don't think he committed yet but I could be wrong. I did not even know that we offered him.

Whats the last info on JT Mapu? I remember reading he would not be able to enroll as he had planned because there was some time he took off from his mission for family/personal reasons. Does anyone know when he is set to enroll now, Spring or Summer?
I understand his situation and i do not believe it will take very long for a guy like him to get polished up, but after 2 years off everyday he can get in the weight room couldnt hurt either... :aggressive:

I can't believe we didn't get a single commitment today. Is anyone as shocked and dissappointed as I am. It's almost embarrassing to think about it. How did we miss out on so many players right here at the end? A week ago it looked like we could make a serious push for the top 10 if we landed Warren, Hawthorne, Mullins, etc. but not only did we miss out on them, we didn't have any new commitments today and we lost Goggans. I'm practically at a loss for words. I have no idea what to blame this late collapse on.

blame it on your head coach thunder. he is the problem right now. but also dont read into recruiting to much.

RECRUITING IS THE MOST OVERRATED THING IN SPORTS.

I don't know if recruiting is overrated, but I KNOW that recruiting coverage is overrated.

ok since this recruiting year is over who do we have a real good shot at getting next year?

As far as who we have a shot at, I have no idea. You never know where the new Vols will come from becasue we cover so much territory in recruiting efforts. Assuming we do not tank it on the field again this season we will probably have another big class next year. I do know that we are on the early list for several Rivals HS Jr All-Americans.

1. Jimmy Clausen QB, CA
2. Caleb, King RB, GA
3. Marvin Austin DT, WashDC
4. Arrelious Benn WR, WashDC
5. Marc Tyler RB, CA
6. Josh Oglesby OL, WI
7. Ronald Johnson DB, MI
8. Gary Gray DB, SC

A lot of these kids have long lists at this point but that's 8 out of 24 that have us on their list right now. BTW none of them have Ole Miss listed since that seems to ahve become some people's measuring stick for success.

:lolabove: i needed that.

Fulmer said some kids lied and he's telling the truth. There are a number of kids that committed and then went somewhere else. Goggans is the obvious one, and we lost him Tuesday night. He was all set for UT until Tim Hawthorne talked to him and also Tim's dad talked to Goggans' dad. Next thing you know, he's going to Auburn. Speaking of Hawthorne, we had turned him and he wanted to go to UT but dad wanted him at Auburn. Perry Riley and Kelvin Sheppard silently committed to coaches and planned to sign with UT on signing day, but then Riley changed his mind and signed early in the morning with LSU before Sheppard signed. Sheppard wanted to go to UT still, but both Riley and Sheppard wanted to go to the same school.....so Riley forced Shep's hand so to speak and Shep signed with LSU also. Aleric Mullins had committed to UT, but after a visit to UNC and a talk with his pro-UNC coaches, 'they' decided it was best for him to go to UNC. His high school sends kids to UNC all the time. Adam Patterson was another that told the coaches he was going to UT, then changed his mind. We all know about Larry Grant, who had committed to UT coaches then switched to UF....but he didn't qualify to play in the SEC, so it doesn't hurt anything. I also have good reason to believe that Jeremiha Hunter committed on his visit, but I don't know for sure. The others definitely did. That's why Fulmer said that about kids lying. It hurts when a kid does that because you often turn kids away once another silently commits, and if that commit doesn't stick......you're usually left out in the cold because others have usually committed elsewhere.

I think the reason so many kids changed their minds was because of negative recruiting from other schools. That happens every year but this year it was much easier for other schools to get kids to buy into the negative stuff they were saying since we had a losing season and some coaching turnover.

The good thing about our class is that we know these kids wanted to come to UT. They'll be proud to put on that orange jersey and wear the T. We need more kids like that, and that might be why the class ends up being one of Fulmer's best IMO. It's also good because it pretty much ends the 2005 season and we can now move forward.

I'm not sure I wanted to seethis thread again. UGH! I was looking for a silver lining that day. The only two on that list of 8 who are not committed and still have us on their lists are Marvin Austin and Ronald Johnson.

Here's to hoping the other guys tank this year....? Anyone?
Hear, Hear!

I re-read a lot of the posts in this thread after VKB bumped it. I remember how many of us were hoping for Fulmer the master recruiter to land us a huge class to make up for some of last year's disappointment and then the utter shock of not landing one single recruit that day, even losing Goggans.

King and Benn have still stated that UTK is on their list...
