Recruiting Central

I know its very early, but i'm sensing that our new coaching hires (excluding Cutcliffe) are not that great at recruiting.

Anyone have an opinion on that, or know something I dont?

I think these guys did not have a whole lot of time. I think next year might be more telling of how Luke and Roper can recruit. Nothing special this year though, that's for sure.

I think Cut has proven his worth in the past as well as this season. We at least got looks from some guys when he came that weren't interested before. I know it doesn't help right now but it will pay off.

tennessee football this year has been terrible all the way around. i'm glad pearl and b-ball vols are good so atleast we have something to look forward too.

5-6, Peyton and co. blow what looked like a sure fire super bowl season, and now we're having the worst recruiting season in recent memory. Could this football season just end already!!!!!! :(

My glass is normally half full smokedog. I'm a full blown Fulmer and Manning apologist. But every man has his limits and I think at this point I've run out of excuses for both of them. I think I need to just calm down before I post anymore negativity on here.

How does Tubberville have so much success stealing away commitments and soft verbals from us? :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
Better coach, better staff. That's how.

Hey smoke..3, I agree it's great to look forward to BB. DIRECTED & LEAD by a fresh, innovative, aggressive, up & coming Coach.

I just can't see us disappointed by Coach Pearl's upcoming recruiting class! Again COACHING RULES! For some reason, I can't see CBP becoming stagnant & lazy or allowing his program to lock into a 6 year slippage headed toward rock bottom BEFORE he makes changes.

How about you?

not a chance pearl is the bomb, it's just a shame fulmer isn't the same type of coach or we would have two sports to be excited about. hold on a second, we do have 2 i'm excited and optomistic about the men's baseball team.

i always thought he was too short *disgruntled that he didnt sign with UT tone*
:biggrin2:

Goggans looked pretty athletic to me. Man that really sucks.

I think that the whole Warren thing really hurt us with Goggans.

I'm pretty sure that Goggans figured if we got Brandon Warren he would never have a shot at TE. He probably shored this up awhile ago. My only question is why not publicly renounce the commitment so it might open the doors for another kid to get a look?

Good luck to all the recruits UT has lost (or whatever some want to call it). Their selection is simply because the "right" person is not on UT's Staff.

Be that a good coach, a particular scheme is not appealing to the player, facilities (I don't buy that one) schedule, location, opportunity, player development or simply Ut's become a boring, average run of the mill NCAA Football program (UT should NEVER be such) or of course, several other factors.

In any case this upcoming season will be interesting to evaluate. And for those that feel simple improvements will be satisfactory, please wake up!

We signed quite a few TE/DE this class. I know we lost something late but we still landed some good recruits, and had some returning players.

My real concern this class is the lack of LB we recruited after graduating 4 very good ones. I know we signed some good players last year at the position, but I thought this was a no. 1 priority this recruiting class?

Maybe, maybe not. We still have some talented LB's on the team. Mathis and McCoy are two of them. It's not like any LB's from this year's recruiting class would play anyway, unless it was a JUCO.....

In NO way am I implying we would do (or have done) anything illegal but I am seriously thinking we had to tread softly on our whole recruiting efforts this year due to Bama and the NCAA keeping a closer eye on the process. I have NO doubts that Bama is watching everything we do. I just wonder if we treaded too softly on the whole process because of fear of something coming down on us. Before anyone goes nuts on this post, it is only a thought. You know all of the after-the-fact analysis.....

It's a thought I guess. Nothing would please the bammers more than to add on to our misery from this season. However, the overall result of this class is nothing more than our bad season. It happens to everyone at some point. We just need to get back on track so we don't have endure another year like this.
