Recruiting Coordinator Zach Azzanni

I always complain about Georgia and ND fans being annoying and acting self entitled but I'm starting to think we have the worst fan base in the country and it's sicking. I have a friend who is a Miami fan and he always talks about how terrible and disrespectful Vol fans are and I'm seeing it. I hate this fan base I really do.

He passed the first test he was in on 4 or 5 to the last hour he had been recruiting these players for 8 weeks the other coaches have been recruiting them for a year or two.

How many did he actually sign out of those 4-5?

Does getting a hat on the table help on the field next year?

Coaching is a results driven business.

I am not saying fire Jones and I am not passing final judgement on Jones but don't try to sell me that getting close on top end recruiting targets is going to make this program better.

I seriously doubt Jones and his staff sat around last night patting themselves on the back like a lot on here insist on doing for missing their targets.

If he is half the guy I think he is, he is figuring out how to finish the deal on these guys next year. Not sitting around whining about how bad Dooley was or how he was so limited in time. Lord knows enough people are doing that for him on here right now.

I'm sorry you hate this fanbase because people (and sadly, it seems to be a minority) "feel entitled" to be better than 11th in the SEC. Go cheer for Kentucky, I guess.

He and the rest of the staff just got a rude awakening of Big Boy SEC football recruiting and got run over. They did a lot of good, but hopefully they learned from this and will do a better job for next year. Now they need to coach and make the most of what we have or it's just gonna get worse--- in before everyone screams " but they didn't have enough time" see AR, AU, etc..?

See if you can picture this: Auburn won a National Championship three years ago. Arkansas Finished in the top 10 in 2011. What have we done? Let's see, 3 winning seasons since 2004, 3 losing seasons in a row and 4 out of the last 5. 4 coaching changes about 6 years. Yes, that will make all the top recruits want to come to Tennessee. The last time that Tennessee was winning 8 to 10 games a year, the kids that were just signed yesterday were less than 10 years old. They don't remember that stuff, the remember recent history. What is going to be needed to turn the ship around is COACHING STABILITY for one and WINNING ballgames also. It's not going to be easy, especially with the toughest schedule in the SEC this year and one of the toughest in the nation. It's going to take baby steps and win a game or two that we are not suppose to and then to put a couple winning seasons together and then the recruiting will start picking up. This is not an overnight fix. If we would have had the 6th rated recruiting class this your, we still would have been 4th in the SEC.

I am going to have to quit VN and go to a different site. 247 has far better posts and information and I don't have to deal with the posters here that have extra chromosomes. Jesus Christ some of you guys are dumb. I'm out.

What has this guy ever accomplished? I see he was at Flordia as WR coach for one year under Urban Meyer and the receivers were so poor UF fans were happy to get rid of him. I don't see any other impressive jobs on his resume or any major accomplishments. I don't see any testaments to some kind of recruiting prowess. Why is this guy on our staff and why is he our recruiting coordinator?

Why are you so negative? I mean honestly I have never seen one remotely positive comment from you.

Seriously your the problem. You with all your mighty power should be able to fix all the problems. Let me guess the solution starts with a G and ends with an N. Oh and we might as well fire Butch before he even coaches a game because you done know he is going to fail so why play the games.

Why must all you Vollyannas use a straw man argument? I know the facts aren't on your side, but you could certainly be more creative. No one expected Butch Jones to land a top 10 class. The problem is, he finished 11th in the SEC, behind Vanderbilt. He didn't gain any ground on anyone. If anything, he fell further behind.

Did he inherit a bad situation? Sure. But if you don't take big steps in improving that situation, it's never going to get any better. And I don't see Jones making any strides like the others who have been able to pull themselves out of the difficult situations they inherited. I mean, Hugh Freeze and James Franklin didn't walk into great situations either, but from the outset, you could see them making strides to improve things.

so your saying Freeze and Franklin showed strides to improve things before they even coached a game?

Franklin's first class finished 70th

Freeze first class finished 40th

Going off of their recent on field success is unfair given that Jones hasn't coached a game yet.

People need to quite freaking out and going into civil war every time someone posts a negative opinion. I plan on waiting to judge these coaches quite a while but if someone wants to point out that azzani doesn't have a great track record of recruiting or coaching which he doesn't cant he does so without being blasted? And whoever said keyboard coaching is a moron. The guy stated Facts to back up his opinion he didn't just get online and start ranting negative comments. Also coaching Isn't rocket science you don't have to be a coach to have a generally decent understanding of coaching

I was positive the day Butch Jones was hired. I thought he was a winner. Now, I'm thinking I was wrong.

In terms of any other negativity, yeah, I spent 3 years criticizing the decisions of Mike Hamilton and the work of Derek Dooley. Everyone said "Why are you so negative" back then too. I didn't try to be negative, I just stated facts and made logical conclusions (just as I still do). And (surprise!) it turned out, I was 100% right about Hamilton and Dooley running the program into the ground. I would love to be wrong one of these days. But, I'm not like you, I can't just pretend that there is progress when none is visible.

He stated one fact, that Azzanni was WR coach at Florida.
Your right, coaching isn't rocket science, coaches are paid more.
If you have never coached and think you have a decent understanding of coaching you would be wrong.

Because Tee didn't accept the job.

Seriously, I was at the signing day luncheon in Nashville today. He talks the talk. Now we'll have to see if he can walk the walk.

Who did we lose that we were supposed to get?

Actually, ALL VERBAL commits actually signed with us. VB had not verbally committed to anyone. This is the first time this has happened in the last few years. A good sign if anyone can see it and will admit to it.

Well, god bless you. I hope you're right (I was on board with the Jones hire myself until yesterday). That said, I've seen this all before. I don't want empty promises and subjective notions of "hard work" and "energy". I want results and I don't see any. I would like to think that the rebuilding has started, but I just can't find any evidence that we're gaining ground on anyone.

Wait till you see the darn product on the field. I will judge this staff then. I don't care if they pulled the 5th class in the nation if they can't coach at practice and game day better than CDD. Developing the talent you get then knowing how to game plan and manage the game will get this program going in the right direction. How bout we watch how that unfolds and then judge these guys. I want wins on gameday not Feb 6. If they show that, the talent will come. If they don't, we will suck until we find someone who can do it.

But, WE ARE TENNESSEE.........WE ARE TENNESSEE...........THEY SHOULD WANT TO COME HERE NO MATTER WHAT BECAUSE.......WE ARE TENNESSEE

You have to build it back to what it was and Hamilton has made this the biggest cluster **** I have ever seen. It is worse than anything I have ever seen with Tech.

If you don't believe in making any evaluations until September, then what are you doing here? I believe in evaluating our coaching staff at every major point. Yesterday was a big day and they failed. Why is it so verboten here to recognize failure when we see it? I can understand people who support the coaches anyway and hope they improve. But I don't understand why no one is willing to make an evaluation unless it is filled with excuses and sophistry.

I will go with what the recruits are saying. Sanders and his dad have said it is totally different at UT now and in a good way. They have been on the inside and you and I have not.

You bite your tongue Sam Pittman is a fine and decent man

But admitting to it won't fit with certain agendas, so I don't look for that to happen. :)

when you're getting your arse handed to you by Vandy. Winning is the best recruiter. We need to find ways to win games--PERIOD.

What does that matter at all? Who cares if all your verbals sign with you, if they aren't good enough to compete with the rest of your conference? It's not a matter of not admitting anything. There are lots of straws you can grasp at, but it doesn't make them significant.

I love how you have removed reality and substituted your own version. Please don't let the facts mystify you in a harmful or unhealthy way :

Hugh Freeze was hired on Dec 5, 2011. His 2012 class ranked #40

James Franklin was hired Dec 17 2010. His 2011 class ranked #70

So you are correct ...Butch has not made strides like the two coached you have noted . His strides has been greater ...taking a class from #60 to #20 within 31 recruiting days. Also you must realize thatif he had signed just 4 more 3* recruits ...his class would have been very near the top 10. Of further note ...there are 2 themes with the class. 1) character and academics ( see Kiffins class if you have any questions) 2) speed

So what happens if you take a fast guy , put 20 lbs on him , and make him a little faster ? You star gazers could give him an extra star at that point...if you want.

Funny how some people now say title of recruiting coordinator is meaningless when just a few months ago we were still being told that Dooley's time as Saban's recruiting coordinator was some sort of all important experience. Jones and his staff are set up with instate stars and out of state legacies that should easily make the 2014 class a consensus top 10 or better. They need to lick their wounds and get on it.
