The thing is I'm always in the mindset of "if we play to our potential, we can beat anyone" but I also keep it real. This is still just year 3 of a major rebuild, I cut my teeth on the "we're not losing a game" Vols of the 90s and as good as Heupel has been we're not at that level yet from a depth/talent standpoint.

Bama's SOS is 4th (on Sports Reference) ours is 84th. Texas is the only team that put up points or yards on Bama... no other team scored more than 21 and no other team racked up 310 yards on them. Our defense only gave up 21 to Florida, but we've had 4 teams total go for 310 or more yards...

Tennessee ALWAYS plays to the level of their opponent. We either win a tight one like last year or they boat race us due to Milroe’s legs and we have a FLA tackling night combined with not being able to do a single thing in the passing game.

Arkansas dominated Bama's defense the entire 2nd half of their game against them this past weekend. I know we could probably nitpick and disssect but I don't think their defense is better. If anything it's a wash, but our pass rush and run defense is better in my opinion.

Yeah, I almost put "even" but was just explaining my position in giving them the edge. If our defense plays like they did against A&M then we're going to have ourselves a damn good game on our hands. I just hope the passing game shows up and we don't need the defense to hold them to 13 points to win.

I can dig that; but, think back to when Beck done that, a time whenever we were coming out of the dark ages both in baseball and football...ive always looked at it as a big F U to the entire sports world that kicked, spit, and sh!t on us while we were down.

The Double Gauldens are extra special though, because...Fk Bama, always.

Completely agree...I think this game will boil down to how good or bad Joe plays unfortunately. Total toss up.

That in and of itself speaks volumes on the progress we've made as a program. For years, Bama could roll out of the bed and beat us 40-10 lol

The way I see it is our defense is practically equal to Bama's, with one big unbalanced matchup that is in our favor

Our pass defense against their pass protection

They are right behind us in sacks on the year, but we rank near the top in pass protection. They have really been atrocious at protecting the QB. I think any other advantages they have over us can be quickly overcome if they continue to be unable to protect the QB.

This game has the makings of another slugfest and it would be surprising if either pulled away at any point. If anyone gets a quick double digit lead it's probably over.

Idk, bama pulled away to a 24-6 lead on r-kansas, then let it slip to a 24-21 win.

Our D is good enough to stop them for long periods of time and allow us to catch up if they jump out to 17-0 on some big early plays.

Our offense has looked ugly, but we're capable of hitting some big plays, if our WRs just catch the dang ball when they get the dang chance.

I have no idea what's up with our WR room. One would think they'd never have been recruited with these ball skills.

I called my papaw right after the kick for the win. We always talked about football and sports in general, every time we talked. We would start vols and end up talking about anything else of note happening in the sport world.

He passed this summer. I've thought many a time how thankful I am for that memory of us talking on the phone after that big win.

Thanks for sharing! Brought a smile to my face and a tear to my eye.

As I mentioned earlier I am looking for these talking heads to mention James Pearce Jr and that we are 3rd in sacks and Bama is 130th in sacks allowed.

He kind of brings this up. He said "Tennessee has a really good pass rush. They're right around I believe a 10% sacks rate. Which is good for I think top 15 in the country"

Then talks about how much they will struggle if they can't protect Milroe and if they can protect him they can do x y and z. Well I don't know dude if you realized we are THIRD in sacks (with a bye week) and Bama is basically dead last in protecting the passer, I'm not so sure you should be confident at all they will protect Milroe. We are top 3 in sacks and have the most disruptive defensive lineman in the country.

Crain and Co has not mentioned it. Now JD.

That’s been my biggest argument to individuals when they’ve said our O-line hasn’t blocked well for Joe which is why his throws have been bad…..

I call immediate BS. Joe has had plenty of time to sit back and find his targets. He just doesn’t. I hope he fixes it this week, if not I hope we eventually see Nico.

Whichever team can get a 10-14 point lead first will probably wins. For us that means a special teams score or a pick six to help out the offense. Both teams have a stout defense and iffy offense. I like our run game better but we need a lead to really make it hard on Bama.
Neither team has the quarterback that they had last year so it will a totally different ballgame this year. GBO🧡
