Recruiting Football Talk VII

As I mentioned earlier I am looking for these talking heads to mention James Pearce Jr and that we are 3rd in sacks and Bama is 130th in sacks allowed.

He kind of brings this up. He said "Tennessee has a really good pass rush. They're right around I believe a 10% sacks rate. Which is good for I think top 15 in the country"

Then talks about how much they will struggle if they can't protect Milroe and if they can protect him they can do x y and z. Well I don't know dude if you realized we are THIRD in sacks (with a bye week) and Bama is basically dead last in protecting the passer, I'm not so sure you should be confident at all they will protect Milroe. We are top 3 in sacks and have the most disruptive defensive lineman in the country.

Crain and Co has not mentioned it. Now JD.

You're next Josh Pate!
Pate already talked about our DL in his update after the A&M game. I would assume he will continue with that for his preview of our game this week.

James Pearce Jr graded out at 92.2 in pff against A&M which is the best grade we have seen under Heupel. Even better than Hyatt against Bama last year.

Curiously when you look at the snap count Roman Harrison had four more snaps than James Pearce Jr. 38 to 34 respectively. Roman graded out at only 63.7. Dominic Bailey played 35 to JPjr's 34 and graded out at 60.5

Ummm that cannot happen Saturday. You need to keep JPjr on the field as much as possible. I'm watching the replay and it's pretty easy to notice when he's not on the field. On A&M's field goal drive he did not set foot on the field until the the final play of the drive where....he got a sack and ended the drive. He didn't even start at the beginning of the 3rd quarter.

Keep JPjr on the damn field guys.

I don't know how to predict this game.

On Paper, we look like the better team. Our defense is better. Our rushing attack is better. Our Special teams is better.

But it's on the road and it will be an emotional game... this gives the edge to Bama.

They want revenge. Revenge is a master motivator - look at how we treated USCjr.

I am glad this is not a night game otherwise I would give the edge to Bama.

But overall, I think our defense wins this game and we make enough plays on offense to score late and hold on to the lead.
I agree with all this but not giving the edge to Bama because it’s not a night game.

They are at home. I give them the edge.

This team does the opposite of what I expect half the time so I hope they do this time too.

The media can set the narrative for casual football fans. It’s astonishing to me that some of these guys get paid very good money to opine on sports. They know they can control what they want people to think.
People who are easily controlled annoy me (not just in sports). Please, oh please, tell me how to think.

Yeah but will he mention James Pearce Jr having more pressures and hurries than anyone in the country and that we are 3rd in sacks while they are 130th in sacks allowed?

See when we played USCjr that was a huge matchup for our guys going in because they were ranked 126th in sacks allowed.

Well our defensive line destroyed them.

A&M is around 70th in sacks allowed after our game with them, which is around average and they couldn't do squat.

I do believe he mention something about SC allowing sacks I don’t know he if got that specific though.

What I will tell you is our boys were getting held all game against A&M and the refs were also letting the RT false start almost every other play against Pearce and they still couldn’t stop the defense from getting the stats they had. Imagine if they would have called everything they would call on us….. it would have been an absolute massacre by our DL.

Whichever team can get a 10-14 point lead first will probably wins. For us that means a special teams score or a pick six to help out the offense. Both teams have a stout defense and iffy offense. I like our run game better but we need a lead to really make it hard on Bama.
Neither team has the quarterback that they had last year so it will a totally different ballgame this year. GBO🧡
We need to hit one of the big plays we've been dropping. Keyton's was bad, but at least we did score that drive. Hopefully we can get 4-5 explosive plays this game. It would make a huge difference.

I think Pearce got most of his snaps in the 2nd half. I'm not certain, but did seem to notice him more then.

Roman Harrison is awful when it comes to finishing. He has no trouble getting in the backfield but when he gets back there he is just never under control.

Go back and watch a few games where the QB has escaped after Harrison got to him, specifically the SC game, Harrison got to the QB and then fell down (not making the tackle) and took out a DL that would have made the tackle.

He tends to do this very frequently. If Harrison would just play under control he would be very good. He does not though.

I don’t think we are going to like Pates prediction either. I do think he will talk about the pass rush more than the two you mentioned did. For what it’s worth, he sounded like he is going to take Bama and the spread based off a couple comments at the end of the quick preview he did last show.

Doesn’t mean anything in the end. Just talking heads making predictions. I respect Pate and will be interested in what he has to say overall though.

He basically says we lose because Milton.

If bama plays how they have all year and our WRs start catching balls, it should be a fg game either way. If Milton continues to make bonehead plays and our WRs keep dropping balls, it could easily be 14+ the wrong way.

Both teams need to play better. The thing is, our issues are very obvious and a lot easier to fix. Just catch the ball and Milton be more aware and aggressive.

I agree, if the same Milton trots out that we've seen so many times already. The WRs could really help him a lot. They make the tough catches and no telling how much it affects his confidence. Milton is good when he gets a rhythm and has more confidence, like vs Clemson. Fingers crossed our WRs pull their head out of their arse before Saturday.

Anyone get the feeling ole Saban has spent nearly a year planning for this game and we're nothing like the team he thought we'd be?

I have a feeling he wasted a lot of time prepping for a Vols team like last year's team and has to spend game week re-doing his game plan.
Yeah I don't think he came into the season (many didn't for that matter) thinking we would be a ground and pound team with great defense. Complete opposite of last year. I'm still Joe has a big game.

Joe Milton may not set the world on fire Saturday..but I fully expect him not to have another 100 yd passing game... Squirrel needs to be more involved, Ramel needs to catch the damn ball and Thornton well nevermind...Jaylen , Jabari and Sampson gets 200 plus....I know its By *** Alabama and have all these composite 5 stars ...but they can be beat and will be defeated...Vols 24-14....MilRoe get ready to eat turf .....Go Vols...
