Recruiting Football Talk VII

Ya I'm surprised by that narrative. Both teams looked terrible. Neither was clearly much better than the other. I'd say the teams are fairly even, but someone had to win.
What the hell are you talking about?....literally the ONLY thing we did terrible in that game was the passing offense...literally EVERYTHING else was ELITE level.

The passing game was terrible...that is true...but every other facet of the team performed at an elite level.

Seriously...they will call us for late hits early to get in our boys head and slow the pass rush down....watch and see.

They will hold and interfere on defense and offense on every freaking play and get away with it...while conversely they will call holding on our OL early and often to help shut down our run game....watch and see.

And not a damn thing will ever be done about it.

WTH?

Ok...that was a long winded diatribe for nothing..I actually agree with you...but I still think it's funny.

You really get worked up to blast me don't you?..lol.
I wasn't worked up at all, and that wasn't a blast. Knowing you've been a bit sensitive to my posts of late, I even added the last part...

You may come from a different school, and that's OK with me.

Is it better for you if I just don't converse with you? Honest question. No sarcasm. I'm fine either way.

I don't know how to predict this game.

On Paper, we look like the better team. Our defense is better. Our rushing attack is better. Our Special teams is better.

But it's on the road and it will be an emotional game... this gives the edge to Bama.

They want revenge. Revenge is a master motivator - look at how we treated USCjr.

I am glad this is not a night game otherwise I would give the edge to Bama.

But overall, I think our defense wins this game and we make enough plays on offense to score late and hold on to the lead.

My big concern is that Milroe escapes the pressure a lot and gashes us for first downs or TDs when scrambling.

This will 100% turn the game on it's head and Bama will have a clear advantage.

Whatever team has to play from behind will struggle. If it's us, we won't run as much. If it's them, our pass rush will destroy them.

Do you even read comments before responding? Some times I think you see a comment and just can’t wait to say something smart a**.

I referenced the dive play that we typically run after long gains. Which happened only a handful of times last game.

I’m not referencing the very successful overall run game that we have especially off of RPO’s and counters.
I get that...but it was pointed out to you why that particular play is important and is a necessary part of the running game.

I never understood the importance of the fullback dive in a wishbone-flexbone when I was young, I always thought it was a wasted play too...but I do now.

I wasn't just being a smartass.

Not sure how you say that if the OL is playing at an elite level. If anything, that undermines an argument that we need "elite" recruits. Think about it. You just stated that he has a former walk on, two transfers, and a career backup playing at an elite level?

I guess I'll just settle again on this: I hope he gets the guys he wants, and continued to develop.

Where did I say the OL is playing at an elite level though?

Lol...that was the epitome of passive-aggressive..and no it doesn't bother me. You ain't a bad guy...you just don't understand me.

I highly doubt bowers misses our game. The surgery has shown plenty of times to have players out in the field again in less than a month. If the uga game is for the east, you can bet bowers will be out there.
One player and Tua didn't play tight end or receiver.

I'm worried of the following:

1) Milroe's escapability and deep ball action
2) Us stalling drives due to penalties if we can't stay composed on the road.

I think Bama will perform better on defense than TAMU did because Saban will have them ready, they're at home, and we're on the road. I think it will be a close game though and we'll have a chance in the 4th quarter.

I don't think the passing game was terrible. I think the results of it were. If receivers caught the catchable passes and refs called the obvious pass interferences, the passing game looks much different (not just last Saturday, but all season). Add in the success we had running, making the passing less necessary. We found a way to win, despite the things working against us.

Some interesting stats:

2022 we lead the SEC in passing yards per game
2023 we lead the SEC in rushing yards per game

2022 we threw it 32.5 times a game and ran it 40.2 times a game
2023 we throw it 31.2 times a game and run it 39.3 times a game

2022 total yards per game: 525.5
2023 total yards per game: 443.8

2022: 6-0 and we had faced 4 top 25 teams and 2 were road games
2023: 5-1 and we've faced 0 top 25 teams

Our passing game has really taken a step back this season. The losses at WR Hyatt/Tillman to draft & Bru/Thornton to injuries and Joe just not being as good as Hendo are a big part of the why. But our OL/RBs have stepped up a lot...Just worries me that our schedule this season has been weaker and with the competition improving we could see more struggles.

This post would look really nice in an official game thread. If only we had one of those.

I think we haven't shown the ability to play well on the road. Mix that with our atrocious passing offense and you can see why they are an 8-9 point favorite
