I feel like we need a fiery DC. Heupel is pretty laid back, and I think that works well for a HC. But I feel like the defense has vanished more on the road than the offense.

Most the offensive issues this year are execution problems and you can only do so much coaching to resolve that. Cooper missing Florida was a big reason we lost.

But the defense has had too many apathetic showings on the road and motivation can be and should be coached up.

I mean this season hasn’t been too shocking with how it’s played out, all 3 losses were on the road. Florida is the one I feel like we truly blew. Missouri finally had the talent to get revenge for the last 2 beat downs we handed them.
We need Eckler or someone to put some fire in these guys. We don’t see our guys with any juice at any time. Maybe they have been so demoralized with this officiating thing, that they don’t have anything left. I don’t know.

Agreed here

Maybe I’ve got Orange colored glasses on, but it sets up like a classic college upset game. Georgia rolling in on a high, Tennessee on a low and then a shock-the-world outcome occurs. Time will tell.
I would tend to agree, but the refs and SEC won’t allow that.

Not sure I’m buying this take. Offense scored 7 last night. In most of our bad road losses, offense hasn’t been able to get going, leaving D on the field way too long. We’ve had a few defensive busts and bad plays where D didn’t get off the field, but we were in until the 4th with the pick 6 and D being gassed. The only game where I really remember defense looking lifeless was UF this season.

IMO we have no true leaders on this team. Not on either side of the ball. No one who puts the team in their back and says no, we aren’t losing. We had that with Hooker and the team followed. Milton is a statue. He goes three and out and doesn’t get upset and just kind of waves the team off. On defense, we have no enforcer. J Banks may have been a head case but that dude played mad and didn’t take any crap. We have no one on defense that says wake up and do your job. I have always thought it was a big mistake having Banks (DC) in the box in road games. A lot of times our defense looks lost or uninspired and no one is coaching them up and chewing them out.

So who we getting at DC? I’ll wait for y’all’s answer.

Going to make y’all mad when we hire a new DC and he wants to bring in all new guys lol. Bye bye Garner and Eckler. You want be getting any sort of good DC if they can’t bring their own guys.

Try hiring someone and telling them “no, we have our guys, go play nice with them” 😂😂😂

RG and Mack are the only two positions coaches that should be safe.

Our offense plays fast. If we are moving the ball well or if we aren't its a short possession timewise either way. It's up to the defense to get off the field. Last night we ran 3 offensive plays in the first quarter. The defense allowed a long drive then got the turnover. Offense ran 3 straight times and forced to punt. Then they ran another long drive into the 2nd.

Offensive execution has to be better there for sure, but lets say for arguments sake the offense scored in 3 plays. Or scored in 6-8 plays with a short field. It's still very little time of possession and Mizzou still would've dominated the quarter because the defense couldn't get a stop.

I just think you've got the cause and effect backwards. "Offense couldn't get going which left the defense on the field to long." Reverse that. Defense couldn't get off the field which kept our offense from getting going.

i would rather Eckler teach our guys some pass rush moves… We have speed and bull rush right now…. they need to watch the steelers pass rushers and learn some moves/counter moves.

Agree not getting off the field was a huge problem but disagree it’s cause and effect. It’s interrelated. When our offense scores it takes pressure off our defense and puts pressure on the other team’s offense. They have to score to match us and are more likely to make mistakes. When our offense gets nothing off a huge turnover, and then continues getting nothing instead turning the ball over, it puts pressure on our defense. Anyway, I just don’t see how we can say defense is the problem when we only score 7.
