Recruiting Football Talk VII

It’s more absurd to think 7-5 8-4 is a good season when it’s the SEC. That line of thinking is over in this era. Raise banners or be fired for a 76 million dollar buyout

Jimbo took over a stable program, never won more than 9 games, and they still gave him almost six years.

Heupel took over a steaming dumpster fire, won 11 and beat Bama in his second year, and some fans are already done with him.

🤦🏻‍♂️

Nico's RS status is of no consequence.

This staff's philosophy is to play older, experienced players and develop talent behind them. They're playing the guys they want to play. CJH decided pre-season that Joe was their guy and he has reiterated this all year. Injuries have impacted their plan somewhat, but they convinced some of these older guys to come back and they're playing them.

Sounds like a dumb philosophy to be honest. That’s just my opinion of course, but sometimes “loyalty” can get you in trouble. We have a lot of young talent and some of the older guys continue to make the same boneheaded and dumb mistakes. I think it is fair to question how long Heupel will find success here if his entire basis for playing guys is just based on experience. In the era of the transfer portal as well, if you don’t play talent early it will leave.

In hindsight, I know it's still fresh on our minds and stings and it's Mizzou but this Mizzou team was good. They returned most of their starters, mostly upper classmen, full group of Drink's recruits, etc etc. They showed it in SEC play and they're on track for 10-2.

They're disciplined and talented. They're a better TEAM than we are this year. They got us at home. They just bullied us last night. I circled this game in the offseason as a game of concern.

Florida was an unacceptable, inexplicable loss. A lot of that had to do with missing Cooper Mays. But we should've won that game against lesser competition. I don't feel the same about the Mizzou game. Mizzou is a better team this year and has proven that. It took Georgia playing at home and Heisman finalist Jaden Daniels to beat them.
I've been told repeatedly that upper classmen suck. Younger guys are the way to go.

Expecting bama or UGA level success is absurd. Yeah yesterday is disappointing, especially after last season. But I think the trajectory of the program is in a good spot. Don’t jump ship on the coaches just yet. Be upset, but be here to support
It’s not the first game like that, it’s the 3rd. If it wasn’t because of the same defensive meltdowns we’d be less concerned. It’s a trend and if it isn’t fixed no offensive firepower will overcome it. See last year. In this day and age you don’t get much time. Money is flowing and you can build programs fast. He needs to fix the defense first. And it starts with firing an already fired by us defensive backs coach and then deciding can we upgrade from banks or do we give him next year and plug some better players. Linebackers are too slow.

I hate that I feel this way considering I spent all offseason wanting the season to get here… but I can’t wait until this season is over.

I want the Milton era over.
I want the McCoullough era over.
I want the Ollie era over.

And on and on and on…

Thank you for being VFLs but I want to move on.

I have doubts about this coaching staff. And if this offense will work long term in the sec. We need a DOMINANT oline it seems, and we don’t have an elite recruiter at OL coach and based on how we’re in year 3 and guys like Ollie Lane and Dayne Davis are still getting snaps, I am not confident in elerbes ability to develop guys.

I also think Heupel just be the kind of coach who will drop a game unexpectedly each year. An annual stinker. Florida might’ve been it this year but tbh Mizzou is kind of worse. Two years in a row he get wrecked on the road in November when our fate was before us.

I hope after the Vandy game, Joe sits out for draft prep or whatever and we roll with Nico all durinf bowl prep and that game. Let’s get him some extended run going into the offseason.

8-4 is a disappointment. I’m ready for this season to end.

Your expectations were out of line with reality.

We lost a Heisman finalist, a Biletnikoff winner, another absolute stud at WR, a top 10 overall drafted OL, another stud on the OL, an animal on the DL, our do it all H-back, our OC….

….and you expected what, 10 wins again? 9-3 was always an extremely successful season for this year’s team with 8-4 a real and likely possibility.

I honestly do not get this especially after what we’ve been through from 2008 to 2020. CJH has put together the best three year stretch of Vol football since the early 2000s with a thin, limited roster under threat of massive NCAA sanctions.

I interpreted that as a commitment to this year and last year. Which kinda makes sense due to depth issues and needing some upperclassmen to lead younger guys and set expectations. Moving forward we can more easily cut bait with upperclassmen that are less talented because we won't have a huge age gap (missing the junior class) and depth issues. Transfer portal helps, but not a lot of upperclassmen are transferring to backup younger players.

On the flipside, this could just be the philosophy for first couple years to get to a stable level. Now next year, maybe they play the best talent and let em grow naturally. Just a thought

If they go after Elko we’re all screwed. Knocks Tennessee down the line in the SEC. Guy is a beast. Very well respected.
About as scared of him as I would be with Deion at florida

We have a damn good coach
Top 3/4 in the conference

Defense needs some fixing
This is a transition year for us
I still 100 percent believe we make the playoffs next year

We just got beat by Mizzou the way uga and Alabama used to dominate us.

Put lipstick on that pig.

Money to be made today in the nfl let’s goooo
49ers vs Jaguars is interesting...49ers are -3 on road, both teams coming off bye week..give me the Jags and the points.....Cowboys vs Giants is -17 ..that's a lot for NFL ..Tommy DeVito at QB for Giants🤔 take Cowboys and the points...

I’m rolling 49ers with something to prove. Think the Gaguars are frauds (could be the titans fan in me)

17.5 is too much imo especially being a division game. I’m staying away, but I’d bet giants +17.5 if I was
