Sounds like a dumb philosophy to be honest. That’s just my opinion of course, but sometimes “loyalty” can get you in trouble. We have a lot of young talent and some of the older guys continue to make the same boneheaded and dumb mistakes. I think it is fair to question how long Heupel will find success here if his entire basis for playing guys is just based on experience. In the era of the transfer portal as well, if you don’t play talent early it will leave.
I'm stating their philosophy, which they are upfront about, not saying I agree with it. It's not just CJH; it's the entire staff.

It puts UT at a crossroads-- adapt or dig in harder.

Expecting bama or UGA level success is absurd. Yeah yesterday is disappointing, especially after last season. But I think the trajectory of the program is in a good spot. Don’t jump ship on the coaches just yet. Be upset, but be here to support

Took Dabo multiple seasons to build up Clemson. That’s what I’m hoping for Tennessee. Howard trajectory.

As always, saying I would be okay if we went 8-4 before the season is always easier than actually watching us go 8-4 lol.

Fair. It’s not the going 8-4, per se. It’s the way we’ve done it. Horrid showing at Florida. No show second half at Alabama. Struggles vs Austin pee and utsa.

Getting whipped by Mizzou the way Alabama and Georgia and Florida used to wreck us.

It’s how we’ve gone 8-4 more than the actual going 8-4.

CFB is high-stakes, and aTm wants to be a player. A school that invests the resources to field an elite team expects an elite team. The top programs and those that want to be are all-in.

But they have too many cooks in the kitchen or the wrong cook. Their hires continue to suck.

Who said anything about my W-L expectations for the season?

You did. When you said 8-4 was a disappointing season and I responded directly to that comment by stating reasons that 8-4 was always likely for this team if they didn’t out-perform. It’s the exact comment that got this convo going between us.

No, I didn’t. Good talk though.

I guess next year will tell us a lot about this staff and their ability to evolve. Stubbornness will cost Heupel, not help him.

Nico's RS status is of no consequence.

This staff's philosophy is to play older, experienced players and develop talent behind them. They're playing the guys they want to play. CJH decided pre-season that Joe was their guy and he has reiterated this all year. Injuries have impacted their plan somewhat, but they convinced some of these older guys to come back and they're playing them.

That sounds very Butch

That’s simply not true. Every QB Huep has had outside of Hooker is less mobile and a worse runner than Milton. Lock and Gabriel were very reluctant to run especially Gabriel. Mackenzie was about on par with Milton with taking off running

Being hesitant and just not seeing the open lanes (free 10 yds) are two different things and all the QBs Heupel has had would take the free yards.

Joe doesn’t.
