Recruiting Football Talk VII

I wouldn’t mind replacing Martinez. He has a knack for turning sub par players into draft picks, but they still underwhelm in college and I don’t know that he’s a great recruiter.

I’d love to see a young coach like maybe Boston college db coach. But at the same time, number one priority is they got to be able to bring in elite talent. Maybe we should try to poach a db coach from a uga or bama and see if they’d do it for a pay raise.

I’m not ready for Tim banks to go. But yesterday was a head scratcher. How do you perform so poorly at every level of the defense? Running lanes were wide open, linebackers out of position, dbs out of position and missing tackles left and right.

And i still can’t figure out why we didn’t blitz often, that should be our identity even if we give up a few big plays here and there, because we’ll also create enough negative plays and turnovers to make up for them. But We are not good enough to play base defense and zone and try to keep everything in front of us. It leads to us playing soft and then a d2 rb has a record breaking day against us and all of a sudden we have no momentum or ability to make big plays to get our offense back on the field.

Tennessee basketball team is terrific though. Real chance at a Final 4 with a functioning offense finally. Also a good chance at 30 win season and SEC championship
Just wait til we lose a couple games and you'll have to reference baseball or football 😅🤣

Having every major program top-25 just makes the morans more moranic

Since the Aggies haven’t won much of anything since the 1930’s shouldn’t they just keep Jimbo? Shouldn’t 8-4 be enough? What are they thinking??? LOL. Blue font.
1) They still have LSU on the road...they're going 7-5 lol

2) Outside of the wonky covid year, he's NEVER done better than 8-4 in his 5 other seasons 🤣🤣

3) They paid him $75mm (and probably invested another $100mm in recruiting) and it's SIX years later staring at 7-5 🤣🤣

Keep taking deep 3s

Is he going be loyal to an underperform, overpaid coach to his own detriment?

He claimed his defense was going to be dynamic, disruptive, innovative. It's about the polar opposite of all those things.

Heupel seems super competitive, I can't believe he's content with that side of the ball.
Probably not. But he has been. IDT he's content with either side of the ball. Multiple things have happened this year that have been pivotal. Some players have not performed as expected, some position groups have been an issue, some injuries have been difficult to overcome, some recruiting misses have hurt, playcalling has been limited and adjustments have been less nimble. I agree with you, but we're going to have to win with what we have and make smart choices postseason.

I see 7 guaranteed wins next year. Arkansas and Mississippi State are struggling and Arky loses Jefferson. Kentucky at home. Vandy is Vandy.

Likely win against Florida and NC State, toss up at Oklahoma, and unlikely at Georgia and against Bama.

It'll be a reset year with a new QB, new starting RB, largely new OL and this staff has still built us up to be a Top 25 team even in years of turnover from recruiting and development. It's been a long time since we could say that. Going to be growing pains, but it's only going up from here. Question is whether or not we can capitalize on a potential generational QB and if we're able to reload after he's gone.

Next year is so key. It’ll answer so many questions.

I think you are likely correct. The only problem in winning 30 is, Barnes will play ZZ and others more minutes than most coaches to knock off as little rust which could result in a couple of early losses. By the start of the SEC part of the season, we should be in tip top condition.

Your expectations were out of line with reality.

We lost a Heisman finalist, a Biletnikoff winner, another absolute stud at WR, a top 10 overall drafted OL, another stud on the OL, an animal on the DL, our do it all H-back, our OC….

….and you expected what, 10 wins again? 9-3 was always an extremely successful season for this year’s team with 8-4 a real and likely possibility.
Well that can't be right...only Vegas...ESPN...fpi...sp+...angled us towards going 8-4...

Not that many fans wanted to hear that, but just too many mixed games. And yet we still won 3 of the 5 mixed games - beat TAMU, USCjr, @UK, lost @UF, @Mizzou.

Not too shabby given our gutty performance in Tuscaloosa. Now we have one miracle shot, when the WORST is still our predicted 8-4...

I finally got to watch the game. What a terrible watch. Their QB and tiny RB dominated that game but our offense, and defense at times, were just flat out snake-bitten. Weird fumbles, injuries, penalties, illegitimate penalties, inability to get any kind of rhythm or opportunities to run the ball.

I honestly don't even take much from this game. Toss it in the trash because it's an aberration. We are banged up and inexperienced at some important positions. I do want to see us get better at QB contain.

It’s an aberration yet the Florida game looked almost identical

there ya go. missouri's best defense is its trash atmosphere. reminds me of that made up City in England, Lower Uncton on Married with Children. Rains all day everyday. Pure Misery. See it? The corollary?

no one is excited to go there

Obviously not the qb.

I'll give him a pass on the offensive side of the ball. He's handicapped on that side of the ball with a qb that can't run the offense. He lost a ton of production on that side of the ball via graduation and the NFL not to mention a first rounder at right tackle. Add to that a huge piece of the puzzle in Bru. Their are zero excuses on the defense. They're no better than they were year one under Heup, maybe worse.

Halzle is a liability, sad to say.

The d-line is better. The coaches have asked the d-line to get pressure with four all year because the backend of our defense is terrible. Think 2012 Sal defense kinda slow.

I would counter that the only teams immune to big road SEC losses are teams with far more talent than everyone else.

LSU, UF, Auburn, TAMU, UK, Ole Miss, just name your team over the last 3 years.

Our saving hope is Nico is HH 2.0, incoming talent is a big step up across the board, and the next USCjr thinks twice before they put themselves in the middle of a legal battle by buying our signs from some other program.

I will say that the talent UT is bringing in is a huge step in the direction to compete consistently with the big dogs.
