Missouri game...

It sucked. But it could be a blessing long term. I think it opened Heupels eyes more on some units not performing and gets him time to evaluate what’s going on during these road games.

Some times you need a game like that to reevaluate. Close losses usually don’t do much to move the needle for coaches and comes down to a few plays in their mind.

No experienced coach is gonna come here with a young, inexperienced defense. Experienced coaches want to go places where they can step into a position with players that are gonna make them look good. Experienced coaches can be more selective. This job would be attractive to someone else that isn't afraid of a challenge.
We're 3 years in and we're still inexperienced? Hogwash. We pay banks $1.6mil. We can get an experienced DC.

Bro, you watch curling to see if you're betting on the Korean women to win the Pan Continental championship. I have met some degenerates in my life, and you are on a path of no return my friend. Im joking (kinda).
Haha not at all. I don’t wager enough $$ for it to consume me, it’s just a fun hobby to make games more interesting

My view is Tennessee will never be in that top 2-3, especially not in the expanded SEC. Not enough instate talent and they lack the money of Texas, Texas A&M, etc.

But when the program is stable, they should be able to get somewhere between Auburn and LSU on this list, both of whom played for national titles in this stretch.

Of course, if the noisiest elements of the fanbase can’t handle 8-4 seasons, then we will perpetually languish in the middle to bottom third of this list.
And this is fine. I have zero issue with 8-4, 9-3, 11-1(12-0), 10-2, cycle and rinse patters where we have a shot at a NC every 3-4 years and are always in the conversation in the rebuild years.

Who would you put on your short list? There are rumors Aranda could be fired by Baylor. I know he did well at LSU. Jim Leonhard is an analyst at Illinois, I think. I thought he did a good job at Wisconsin. Surprised he was never snapped up. Rumors he might be in the running at USC. Alex Grinch is a name I'd stay away from. He did horrible at USC. And, of course, some on here are touting Arnett. Not really sure about that one. Seems more iffy than sure thing. What other names are out there that could be available to us? And will we limit ourselves again by insisting it be a minority hire? I just want the best hire, regardless of race. And that's still assuming these rumors that Banks will be gone are true.

Please. Mack was washed up at Texas. Jimbo had a better win percentage in his last four seasons at A&M than Mack had in his last four seasons at Texas. And Barnes didn’t even make a Sweet Sixteen in his final seven seasons there. Both those guys needed a change in scenery.
Mack Brown won a natty, played for another, and had a top ten program for a decade. He was disrespected by spoiled brats. He is too classy of a guy to take the aTm job to get revenge on Texas, not like he'd be offered, but It it would be funny.

I think 8-4 this season is keeping pace and I said as much before the season, but it's the how we got there that kinda bums me out. Florida is garbage and we were totally outcoached and outclassed in that game. And Mizzou is a really solid team but we looked like we didn't even belong on the field with them. It was just two really disappointing losses.

Normally 8-4 would be par for a year like this but with the SEC so down it feels like underachieving. Both UF and Missouri were winnable games and it feels like missed opportunities.

Look back at last year, too, and you can see this team has problems on the road, especially defense. Not counting Vanderbilt, because Vanderbilt just doesn't count, the only road game we just played lights out in last season was LSU. We struggled at Pitt. And we lost at SCar and UGA. The Florida and Bama wins at home just helped mask our road woes. For whatever reason, this team does not travel well.

Especially the defense, IMO.

People could say the same of Fulmer, but sometimes coaches just grow complacent. I think Mack Brown needed the change in scenery, and Texas just needed a new coach.

The good news is next year, only 3 true road games but they gotta figure out what the deal is with that

It's like if they're not playing in front of the home fans, the players just can't get up for the game. They come out flat when playing on the road. That's something that falls on the entire coaching staff. They have to find a way to motivate these guys while on the road.

I’d be curious to go back and look at Heupel’s time at UCF and if there was the same problem

And just like Tennessee after Fulmer Texas sucked for ten years No top tier coach is going to take a job that treats the outgoing coach like we treated Fulmer and Texass treated Brown. You get Charlie Strong or Lane Kiffin, not an upgrade.
