It's like if they're not playing in front of the home fans, the players just can't get up for the game. They come out flat when playing on the road. That's something that falls on the entire coaching staff. They have to find a way to motivate these guys while on the road.

The best teams are player-led teams.

Also everyone has trouble on the road except for UGA and Bama. Road Ws are one of the biggest hurdles to climb when trying to take the next step as a program.

And just like Tennessee after Fulmer Texas sucked for ten years No top tier coach is going to take a job that treats the outgoing coach like we treated Fulmer and Texass treated Brown. You get Charlie Strong or Lane Kiffin, not an upgrade.
Okay, but do you really think Fulmer would have turned it around if we kept him? I love and respect Fulmer for what he did as a player and coach (not AD), but I do think it was time for him to go. And we could have done better than Lane, we just made a poor hire. Texas did the same. They made bad hires. As for Mack, I think the move rejuvenated his career. I think it ultimately helped him in the long run.

Even if both were done their exits could have and should have been handled with a lot more class and respect Both programs paid mightily for those firings We got Kiffin because that's all we could get, same for Texass. Even Alabama will treat Nick better, they did the Bear.

Look back at last year, too, and you can see this team has problems on the road, especially defense. Not counting Vanderbilt, because Vanderbilt just doesn't count, the only road game we just played lights out in last season was LSU. We struggled at Pitt. And we lost at SCar and UGA. The Florida and Bama wins at home just helped mask our road woes. For whatever reason, this team does not travel well.

Especially the defense, IMO.
As for our road woes, I think it's just the personality of our core group of players....okay...the upperclassmen. They've shown to be susceptible to poor responses when adversity strikes. That tendency multiplies on the road. You're in a hostile environment. Crowd is against you. You think the refs are against you. You figure the deck is stacked so it is what it is. Know this will bring the slings and arrows, but I still say this is a soft team mentally and their physicality is also very suspect especially in the back end of the defense. The starting QB isn't what you'd normally see in a "leader". He's just one of the guys...a buddy. He's not a guy you look at and think..."I'll follow him into battle". I don't think Joe likes the road either. Some dudes like Clausen thrived on having rivals and their fans come at him. He loved the road and having be them against the world. That's simply not who this team is. I'll add more fuel to the fire of the blow back I'll get for this post. I think it has a lot to do with Heupel's personality. A team really is a reflection of the coach. I think he's really a laid back, players coach. Not saying I want a guy who goes off every time a call goes against us or a kid is scared to the point of playing not to make mistakes, but Heupel doesn't strike me as the fiery sort. Maybe he's different in practice? Dunno. But sometimes you just need to let 'er rip when you need to wake a team up. Take the officiating. He drums his thumbs and silently takes it. Heck, even Drink went off. Yeah, he apologized publicly, but the message was delivered regardless. Heupel...crickets. Even in hoops you'll see a coach take a T in order to light a fire on his bench and wake his team up. Some coaches just know when and how to do it. There's no changing things now. The year, for all intent and purpose, is in the books. Just gotta hope that our recruiting class has some players with some edge to their make up. If the coaching staff got no dogs on it, you need to recruit some players who are and let them make up for the deficiencies elsewhere. Long winded way of saying I don't see a lot of "fight" on this team among the starters. I'm so ready for this roster to be cleansed and flipped. I'll take the mistakes of youth over what we're seeing right now.

Just win the home games baby!!

9-3, with our schedule, would have a shot at the 12 seed.
Beating Bama at home will be a challenge with Milroe in his second year as QB1.

Should beat Arky on the road. I think OU will be winnable and I think the team and Heupel will get up for that one. I also think 10-2 or 9-3 unless there's too many growing pains with OL and new QB.

Confirmed Lanning doesn’t want that SEC smoke. Oregon is a baller job anyway but still.

he's got pacific nw, and cali to himself. oregon is a better job.

tamu is its own worst enemy. firing two coaches, after moving to division with goat coach. you compete with texas, ttu, oklahoma, et al for players.

you're little brother. what are your expectations? imo 10 wins is good there.

USC is a better job than Oklahoma but everyone said Riley didn’t want the SEC smoke. So the same must apply to Lanning.

For the record I agree. Oregon seems like a dream job.

I was telling my wife last night about the sad news I heard on the radio while driving home. Apparently a pretty famous actress killer herself. My wife asked me who it was and I could not remember the full name but thought her first name was Reese. She gasped, Oh No.!! Witherspoon!!???
I said no, apparently she did it with her knife
