Recruiting Football Talk VII

This is not the best way to phrase how that went down. LA Vol said that they prioritized minority candidates. It is frankly insulting to Banks to imply that he only got the job because he is black. I do not believe that to be true at all.
It is absolutely insulting to Banks that he was hired based on his race. Which is why this business of hiring based on race needs to stop. Both explicit and implicit. Ending hiring based on explicit racial discrimination would be a start.

LA_Vol said it. AP said it. We only interviewed black candidates. We had a qualified albeit unpopular candidate playing solitaire in his office when Heupel got here who was not interviewed. And then there are the very similar circumstances that resulted in Randy Shannon being hired at UCF.

I think the evidence mounts beyond pure speculation. Don't like it for Banks. Don't like anything about it. And I think the solution is to not do it anymore. And that's a decision that will ultimately fall on Danny White.

I think DJ Durkin would be a good DC candidate. Great recruiting benefit as well as experience as a DC. Is he elite? No but he’d be a Kevin Steele level solid DC maybe slightly better

Okay I could have used minority candidates and it was not meant to be anything toward whites, blacks, yellow people. I do not care what color our coaches are, I just remember reading where they was going to hire a minority coach so does that mean that TN went out and hired the best DC that they could hire?

All three of those programs have embarrassed us in recent times. We have no basis for confidence, much less arrogance. Regardless, respecting others takes nothing away from ourselves.

Be better. Even if you have to fake it.
Hang out with scum, end up being scum. Hang out with better end up better.

Leonhard would probably be solid as well...not sure how good of a recruiter he is but his Wisconsin teams played solid defense. If Baylor canned Aranda, I'd be a fan of us going after him as well. Utah also has a really good DC but not sure if he'd leave that area.

Pates model has uga -11. Thinks uga wins and covers. Thinks both teams are moving in opposite directions. Uga peaking and Tennessee is running out of gas.
We're definitely banged up, so this is a tough one.

But never underestimate us inside Neyland. Maybe UGA will be gassed playing 3 straight ranked opponents in their cozy confines and now stepping into the raucous.

We'll see, but I'm a sucker for a beautiful upset...so you already know where I'm at on this matchup 😎

Bobo is doing some really cool scheming with 12 personnel in tight stacked receiver formations with only one wide. Fake to the RB who then blocks or swings to the opposite side. Gives Beck several options. D's have been responding with single man coverage on the wide receiver and zone or soft man on the stack for the most part. They are getting eaten up passing. Then Beck simply hands off out of the same look and the RB zips through the middle. I thought CTB was phoning his D calls to Kiffin's staff last week after our debacle. Looked just like our D.

I don't think it takes a genius to scheme 12 personnel with Bowers.

The math checks out, and if you have the money, do it. But the whole thought of this and saying “don’t cash out, just do this!” depends on the bettor having 5k on hand to throw down on a hedge bet in this situation.

Maybe this guy didn’t. Maybe taking this 8k on the cash out and keeping it in his account allows him to do hedge bets like this in the future that he doesn’t have the money to do now. Heck, what if that 8k pays his mortgage for 3 months and he’s living pay check to pay check. Probably shouldn’t be betting if you’re in this situation but lord knows people are.

The point is, no bettor is in the exact same situation as another bettor. Math is great, and in this instance his math checks out, but math doesn’t take in to account people’s situations. The person that tweeted that even made the comment in the tweet “Without knowing what was going to happen, or how much money is liquid in the account to hedge”. He literally makes a definitive statement of “Never cash out” and then spends a whole paragraph saying but only if x,y,z. Make up your mind dude.
It's pretty straightforward imo- just like in poker with stack sizes or in the long-run, bankrolls. Inflection points vs maximizing EV.

1) The house isn't just giving you a sweet deal to cashout.

2) Given 1, it's just about inflection points.

3)

If the current amount is life changing in some important way, then by all means cash out.

Vs

If you have plenty of means and this bet won't change your life in a major way, then ride it out to maximize EV.

It's the same way a common man should cash out/sell his stake vs Warren Buffet's billion dollar bracket challenge if his bracket is still perfect by the final four. Take the $100 million at partial equity and run. But if you're Jeff Bezos, let that mother ride all the way out.
