Recruiting Football Talk VII

I actually think the RB room isn't devastated if both Small & Wright leave. Sampson, Seldon, Keith & Bishop, I think Bishop probably emerges in the rotation next year too. He's built like Small/Wright and from all accounts during preseason was really impressive.

Really hope the OL can upgrade, either by recruits playing better or through the portal. I think replacing Cooper is going to be a tall order.

At the time…. it was stated that the SEC was trying to punish him to fend off the NCAA…. Tennessee eventually parted ways with Pearl before the NCAA ruling.
So if it were handled similarly, after the Big Ten action in the Harbaugh case, the NCAA will give Harbaugh in addition a 3-year show cause? It doesn't matter: the schools (the NCAA) will do what they want, and precedent and rules make no difference.

It's going to be terrible if the cheating-with-impunity club gets NIL regulated. Enforcement calls and no-calls will be re-instituted in that sphere.

In the meantime, anyone who displaces crooked Bama is better than Bama.

I agree. Bishop may be better than Small given an equal opportunity. Cooper has been the key.

He no longer had the backing of Tennessee or the SEC.

1863Nov 17-Dec 4th, Battle of Knoxville, Ten.

Confederate General James Longstreet places the city of Knoxville, Tennessee, under siege. After two weeks and one failed attack, he abandoned the siege and rejoined General Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. The Knoxville campaign began in November when Longstreet took 17,000 troops from Chattanooga and moved to secure eastern Tennessee for the Confederates. Longstreet’s corps was normally part of Robert E. Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia, but after the Battle of Gettysburg in July, Longstreet took two of his divisions to shore up the Confederate effort in the West. He and his troops participated in the victory at Chickamauga in September and the siege of Chattanooga in October and November. Longstreet quarreled with Braxton Bragg, the Confederate commander in the West, and he was given independent command of the Department of East Tennessee. Longstreet took his 17,000 troops and moved toward Knoxville. Facing him was General Ambrose Burnside and 5,000 Yankees. Burnside fought a delaying action at Campbell Station on November 16 before retreating into the Knoxville defenses. The next day, Longstreet pulled into position around the north side of the city, but he could not cut off supplies to the Union troops. Longstreet waited for reinforcements to arrive, which they did on November 28. He attacked, but was repulsed with heavy loses. Longstreet continued the siege in order to draw troops away from Chattanooga. The ruse worked, and 25,000 Union troops were dispatched from Chattanooga to chase Longstreet’s force away. Ultimately, Longstreet retreated back to Virginia. His Knoxville campaign was disappointing for the Confederates, who had hoped to secure eastern Tennessee. Longstreet rejoined Lee in the spring after his disappointing turn as head of an independent command.

I don't think he's the best x's and o's coach but I'd be lying if I didn't think he'd pull a plethora of 5 stars to A&M. They're already doing it without him. With the hype Deion brought the recruiting would be insane.

He took the job because it was a huge leap from Jackson State? Salary wise and it's a D1 school. FSU wouldn't hire him so he had to get some experience somewhere.
Exactly. They was pulling 5 stars with Jimbo.
He didn’t win like they was though.
They need a really good coach.
Not a big name and face.

It would be pretty hard to lose a lot with the talent I think Deion could bring in there but that's my 2 cents. Not sure what really good coach they could even hire not named Urban meyer.

Not to mention Colorado is hot garbage except for the pass game in an inferior conference. Would he be able to improve in those areas enough that A&M wouldn't just be in the same situation in 2 or 3 seasons with a big buyout to another name?

The Heidi Game
The Raiders took on the NY Jets on November 17, 1968. With the Jets up by 3 with 65 seconds left, NBC switched away from the game to its scheduled programming - the children's movie Heidi - and TV viewers never saw the Raiders emerge victoriously.

What They Missed: Play-by-Play

  • With 65 seconds remaining in the game, the Jets kicked a field goal to take 32-29 lead. Jets kicked off and the Raiders returned the ball to their own 23-yard line.
  • At Raiders' 23-yard line, Raiders QB Daryle Lamonica completed a 20-yard pass to HB Charlie Smith, who was facemasked by Jets S Mike D'Amato. The penalty put the ball at the Jets 43.
  • Lamonica found Smith again, who outraced D'Amato down the sideline for a 43-yard touchdown. The extra point gave the Raiders a 36-32 lead with 42 seconds to play.
  • On the kickoff, Jets kick returner Earl Christy fumbled the ball. It was picked up at the two-yard line by Raiders special teamer Preston Ridlehuber, who ran it in for a touchdown.
  • The Raiders scored two touchdowns in a nine-second span and held on to win a most memorable game, 43-32.

I'd never been so distraught thinking we'd lost then to find out I missed such a great comeback all because of freakin' Heidi?? Still dem Raiders were my team! That was the NFL I loved.

I just want to see a spirited effort tomorrow. No blowout L. 14 straight home wins. Play smart football not dumb football with all of those stupid penalties. Play with intensity and 60 minutes. This is Tennessee, tell the dawgs to go **** themselves and take the win by any means necessary

Cheating Harbaugh is de facto cleared for the playoffs (which otherwise would have been contested). Michigan gets to pretend they are a "victim." CFP, NCAA, Big 10 all have their fake excuses rubber-stamped now to do nothing, which was their desire. Fans have been distracted from the fact that Michigan already compromised the integrity of last year's CFP; going for two in a row. Most fans can't remember the entire pile of rule-breaking at Michigan (including the still standing allegations filed by the NCAA against Michigan last year. Remember? Harbaugh responded by lying to the NCAA (what a pearl of a guy he is) and the NCAA responded to that by giving Michigan another year to make the playoffs before doing anything or maybe nothing again.) The clown-show like coverage of the signal scandal displaced memories of the active allegations and current (pre-existing) NCAA stall. But "we can haz funny memes."

Who could have guessed? 😂 Crooked enforcement no-call (so to speak) doing business as back-door permission (impunity) covered by farcical soap-opera distraction for the public.

Still hope Michigan displaces Bama from the playoffs if necessary because Sabey is the bigger crook.

I just don't understand how you can bring a lawsuit or litigation in this matter. It's like the USDA saying an employee failed to do his/her cleanup correctly at a chicken plant and we are fining the company or limiting the company in some way. The company then chooses to protest the findings and discipline the employee or do what the findings say and suffer the consequences. I guess the company could file a lawsuit and say that the USDA overstepped their boundaries, but I love to see the company try to win that argument. If you did file a lawsuit, you better look out because they would have inspectors there 24/7 writing up fines for small things and bring more scrutiny towards your organization. i guess Michigan is trying to kick the can down the road to be able to possibly play in this year's CFP's. What if you were to win it, they would probably strip it away from you in the future. At the same time Reggie Bush won the Heisman and got it stripped away later. It was pointless. It hasn't limited his NFL and broadcasting career and earnings. Most people regard him as the winner and most of what he and the marketing agency were accused of is not even against the NIL currently.
If you are Michigan you just kick the can down the road and if you win a Natty and they strip it from you, It will have an asterisk beside it in the record books and Alabama will claim it. :p😁😁

I decided to sing in the shower this morning. I mean, I was really belting it out and got really into it. So into it, I did not stop singing when I washed my face. Then, it turned into a real soap opera.
