It seems Heup has gotten too complacent with his staff as well, all signs point to WM coming back as well as banks, all in the name of staff continuity and nothing more. Banks, WM, and even BJM haven’t shown their worth in keeping another year

I hope you're joking. This team has overachieved with the staff we have in place, so why would anyone be getting fired and how has coach Heupel got complacent? That makes ZERO sense. This team has NOT won in years and now we are winning consistently and you want to tear that down and start over.......that's just DUMB.....👎

Complacent?

Hiring from within is a two edged sword. I think overly loyal to his guys is more sense

Does this mean the conventional wisdom is Vols have to have back to back 10-win seasons before we should expect better recruiting?

Tennessee seems to have a glass ceiling in recruiting, and has for a quite some time across years and coaches. Best I can tell, the coaches put a ton of energy in it and get lots of good players on campus (Georgia weekend, etc.). Sounds like we have a competitive NIL group, although clearly not Texas A&M elite (suggesting we probably don’t have access to their kind of money).

When the dust settles, I still say it is lack of in-state talent. We are going after guys from out of state and therefore competing against our equals in almost every area. We don’t get that extra edge of selling the instate school that is close to home, etc.

That’s been my theory for a while.

Still - we are very solid in recruiting and should be a competitive bunch that are fun to watch for years to come.

We went after higher caliber recruits this cycle. Unfortunately we lost out to Seaton and a couple of others. We also won a few battles. I would rather go to transfer portal than take on projects or fallback plans from HS.

Did the staff let Tayven Jackson walk last offseason or did they encourage him to leave? I really hope it is not the later if they didn’t even attempt to bring in another qb

This year was not an overachievement. Last year 100% you have a point, this year not.

Lest we forget Butch's major downfall was abandoning his assistants. The same assistants that go him the job in Knoxville he abandoned at the slightest fan grumbling.
