Recruiting Football Talk VII

Tennessee seems to have a glass ceiling in recruiting, and has for a quite some time across years and coaches. Best I can tell, the coaches put a ton of energy in it and get lots of good players on campus (Georgia weekend, etc.). Sounds like we have a competitive NIL group, although clearly not Texas A&M elite (suggesting we probably don’t have access to their kind of money).

When the dust settles, I still say it is lack of in-state talent. We are going after guys from out of state and therefore competing against our equals in almost every area. We don’t get that extra edge of selling the instate school that is close to home, etc.

That’s been my theory for a while.

Still - we are very solid in recruiting and should be a competitive bunch that are fun to watch for years to come.
If Heup can get the offense top 5 again and keep the defense as a rushers dream then we can be top and offset some of this stuff. Our issue this year is we stepped back and lost a little shine. We beat no one we should not have and lost to a really bad UF.

I’ll also add that when all is said and done in Late Jan when you factor in player retention keeping young guys out of portal, bringing back older potential NFl draft players, HS recruiting class and high impact portal additions we will likely be one of the top 5 or so programs overall for this cycle.

So we are all complaining about an overall pretty high level job by everyone involved.
"WE" aren't all complaining.
BTW it's a consistent few on here that never stop or shut up so I can see where someone would get that perception

If we did indeed truly offer him 7 figures, then we now have it available and throw it at this kid or use it in the portal. It's out there now... we know we have money to spend, we just don't seem to be spending it. Not liking what I'm reading about this staff's recruiting style either... everyone's been a smartarse throwing it out there, but there may be some weight to "staff can't close"...
Why don't you miserable whiny wimps ever consider...
Maybe people just don't want to go to TN?

So you want the BCS, but with more teams?
When I say EVERY Conference champion I mean all of them, like BB. I know many would get beat badly but one never knows. Do away with the weak scheduling or the pay to win games, make the playoffs half of the useless bowls and find out who is best. The thing is everybody gets a chance but money and people would find a way to screw that up as well. This is just a BASIC idea but the FCS has had success with a playoff for years.

I won't start a new thread, but I think this topic is worth one.

Perspective is killing us, but it shouldn't be. We lost Seaton so the sky is falling, but had we landed him we would have shot up in the rankings and everyone would feel 180 from how we do right know. Most sites had us as the leader until Deion Deioned.

Our class was similar last year but we got Nico and everyone would point to Nico whenever any negativity arose. Seaton was Nico for this year. Unfortunately we missed. Barely missed. We are still a force to be reckoned with in recruiting and that is despite less talent in state and all the other obstacles Pruitt left us with.

My point is we are one blue chip away from being in the top 5 and that is despite not winning any championship, having less in state talent, having to navigate reductions, and being just recently under investigation.

Oh and we are good in like every stinking sport now too.

It is a great time to be a vol fan.

Perspective - find some

Yeah. It had nothing to do with you offering a teenager the testicles of a grown man as compensation for giving his commitment to play college football at your chosen university. It is simply that you offered him the wrong grown man's testicles. Now that we have established that it is simply a question of quality and not the offer of testicles in and of itself, we simply have to determine whose testicles would be of sufficient quality to get some top notch recruiting momentum. I recommend that you start by inspecting everyone's testicles that have a screen name other than @Glitch. I'll inspect those and give a full report.
Fine. I'll have @BaldBiker shave you and then I'll take care of the boxing.
your posts just keep getting creepier and creepier. I might need to file for a restraining order.

I am glad we went 8-4 this year but the stubbornness at QB regarding Milton has been ridiculous. Even before Hooker got the Start Joe Milton was inconsistent as mess.

This year he was super inconsistent. Both years Heupel and staff chose Milton knowing what he was.

That is the scary part of it. I hope our offense this next year is much improved because our passing game was atrocious this year…..

Because boo commenting on everything seaton does like their best friends doesn’t bode well?

Social media postings of 17 year olds can be read into for days but mean little to nothing in the grand scheme of things. Boo signing with Colorado on signing day would be bad. Boo commenting on Seaton’s social media activity is neither good nor bad. Kids just speaking kid lingo until proven otherwise.

Prime example: the Sugar Bowl was basically Miami’s stepping stone for a possible national championship claim as the #3 ranked team.

Then they actually had to play the Tennessee Volunteers with a backup QB, a walk-on RB, and a walk-on CB. The rest is history.

FYI, miami went home after getting ass beat. That’s information for the youngsters.

Honestly, that Tennessee team could beat any of the current playoff teams in my humble opinion. They had the desire and team spirit that’s rarely seen now. They wouldn’t cave to being out talented. 🤠
still my favorite game of all time…. can’t explain to anyone how big of an underdog we were considered that day…. Almost every Miami position had an NFL player…. they wore battle fatigues off the plane…. the announcers barely mentioned us…. Miami went up 7-0 and people acted like it was over…. we rolled that Hurricane Azz the rest of the game…. Shotgun stevens played the same song 35 straight times to celebrate our win after the game.

SDE: Diggs / West
NT: Omari /
DT: Lott / Hobbs
Edge: Pearce / Josephs / and our 30+ edges

Go. Get. Diggs. and a younger NT!
At our current speed it seems we will just sit on the sideline and watch everyone else scoop up the talent, wait till everyone is finished, look both ways, then step into the portal to see if anything is left over...

Serious question. Some of y'all seem Schiano level fried after the Seaton deal.

Let's try not to:

Make Seaton's decision a dissertation on race in America on Twitter.

Embroil our collective in rumors of misappropriation despite no evidence to support it.

Label our coaches bad recruiters as they work to close strong.

And label every departing player a dead beat.

(Or use this thread to fan your flames of anger and we'll bring mattresses for you)
The Seaton thing doesn't factor into my current view on recruiting. Nothing the staff could have done there as multiple schools got played, and it was orchestrated by Deion for publicity.

I've been concerned with recruiting for months, but I've tried to bite my tongue as much as possible because there are a lot of posters who hate discussing recruiting in the recruiting forum. I believe there is real reason, AT THE MOMENT, to be concerned with recruiting. That doesn't mean the staff won't pull a rabbit out of their hat. But a Jaren Sensabaugh or a 3* TE to replace Echols are not rabbits out of the hat IMO.

I still feel strongly that recruiting HAS to get better. JMO
