I admit I am surprised at the minimal momentum that Vol Club has, and how hard it has seemingly been for them and our fans to get this going. Thought it was a slam dunk. Whatever.

Maybe we'll start 4-0 or 5-0 and our fans will buy 25,000 pairs of Nico PJ's and that's how they'll get introduced to NIL. I dunno.

A lot of Vol fans descended from tight fisted Scotch-Irish ancestors. So this was always going to be a fail.

Why does that surprise you? TN fans don’t want to contribute or win at a high rate. It’s obvious by the ridiculously low membership of the Volunteer club. This failure is on the fans.

Not knowing where our money is going doesnt help. There has to be visibility. But there has to be more of an effort. You cant just hit up a message board.

I don't either. They're throwing a lot of money around because they have a goal/plan. We passed on guys because of health history, attitude, and not wanting to overpay. They are saying damn all those things let's push all the chips in.

Kiffin is a decent coach but no way am I in any way jellie of their transfer haul. We already had better talent. We have better coaches.

We need an elite DT, WR, and an OT.

Maybe this hasn't been true for you, but it absolutely has for me. It's all anecdotal of course but I have been shocked at the amount of fans that either know a little about NIL but not Spyre or know nothing at all. Either way, they are typically about it once it's been explained to them. That is a marketing failure.

You know I always champion you, but I wouldn’t call them dumbasses. Kids at that year range are looking to maximizing what they think their worth is. Did both make a stupid kid choice? I don’t know, but neither should be classified as VSL going forward. Neither was going to stay (look at Baron’s move to get more money, it worked last time) and McDonald, that’s not a loss at all. Will not miss either one.

Ok...I love you, you are a really sweet person....but I'm not...I'm a grumpy ass, pissed off at the world old codger redneck...imo they are not "kids", and imo they are dumbasses to leave here unless they were prodded that direction, which I've seen no one claim that they were, so now they are no longer Vols, they are enemies by their own choice and I hate em.

I think Kiffin sees the PR value in this, per usual.

A haul like that grabs attention and says 1) "ole Miss is worthy of top talent and worth coming to" and 2) "hey recruits and other portalers, we are building something big here, join the club"

Whereas our staff is more concerned with fit, chemistry, and what the $$$ would mean from a roster management perspective.

Two totally different ways to manage a roster. We'll see who was right next year

Don’t think “next year” is a great barometer for our success bc like you said Heup is taking a more long term approach. Kiffin absolutely must win and win big next year. I’ll be disappointed if we miss the 12 team playoff, and that’s going to entirely rely on Nico now. We didn’t do enough to help him out. Though Brazzell would be fantastic.

At the end of the day, all that matters is what happens on the field. It's the Doug Dickey philosophy. If the football team is winning, the rest doesn't matter. So as much as I think we could and should be recruiting better, it doesn't matter if the players they get win. Conventional logic says the better the talent, the more likely the chance you win. This staff has taken a different approach. They look for unpolished diamonds and "fit". And that's fine, as long as it leads to championships. But it has to lead to championships. That's the goal, and it should always be the goal. Not saying we have to win it all next year, or every year, or any such thing. But we should reach a point in the next few years where we're always in contention, and occasionally win it all. We should be what Bama and Georgia currently are. Otherwise, what's the point? Why play if it's not to be the best?

Josh Heupel seems like an excellent coach. I do believe he can get us to that level. Not gonna lie, I think he needs some staff adjustments, and that we do need to be better in recruiting, more aggressive in the portal. But again, as long as we win, none of that matters. We just have to win.
