Hey, I applaud them for taking their shot. They have a pretty manageable schedule, and making the first 12-team would be something they could sell as a program going forward.

No pressure, Lane.
Yeah, I'm sure he's got a pitch to sell-- and it's not a bad one for rent-a-year guys who're looking for a paycheck while staying in the SEC. It's a game with everyone moving the pieces.

I know that some are questioning the portal haul, but the staff is getting who they're going after. Ole Miss picked up transfers that UT wouldn't pay to keep, and they'll likely sign a few more that UT wouldn't pay to land. Kiffin is going all-in on next year.
It's a good agressive plan for Ole Miss. They think they have a window and are paying for 1 year to try and reach the playoffs - good strategy in the first year it is 12 teams. Get in the playoffs and see what kind of run you can make.

There will always be teams willing to pay. This year it is Ole Miss and next year it will be someone else.

we noticed

whether or not it works who knows but they will have one hell of a roster if they land Nolan. We are just hoping to grab what we can get.
Actually, we're pretty much grabbing what we're going after. Landing Nolan is all about being the highest bidder-- and actually wanting to get involved with that.

It is funny to me that what some people find disconcerting I find reassuring. I think I am most relieved that Heupel, our collective, and AD all seem to be working from a well orchestrated plan. We clearly have money because Nico literally opened Pandora's box on NIL envy, jealousy and speculation. Nico was a very wise investment though. Might not work out, but by all experts he is one of the most sure bets in recruiting in the last 5 years. Then we clearly doubled down investing major capital in his protection this year. That was reflected not only in the pursuit of Seaton, but also the pivot to returning starters when we did not. Even CO touted how much we had offered. Kid got sold by Deion and that kind of stuff happens, but it was not money related.

How many of you watched Bryce or Levis this year and wondered why NFL owners had not done the same strategy?

Ole Miss on the other hand is out shotgun blasting ours and other teams malcontents and cast offs. Good luck with that.

To me, we look like smart money, but some of y'all are chasing QVC and Fingerhut.

Very doubtful. And that’s not me being negative. But all the sites on Facebook and Instagram could push it immensely and it would reach way more.

I think it’s well tan and they take care of players. But it lacks in advertisement and getting to the masses. Once it does, our NIL will dominate.
The masses aren’t going to donate to something like this if we’re being honest. It makes sense to target the audience that’s most passionate about UT sports, which is what they’ve done here, VQ and the like.

better than the 'find the diamond in the rough" strategy for sure esp with a 12 team playoff coming
What if they hit on all their diamonds in the rough? Hitting on ALL is unlikely, but if they hit on a high percentage, it could work out. But yes, landing some more proven talent would help those of us with noodle nerves.

My biggest concern is DL. Yes, we have our core coming back next year, but we've whiffed thus far on big time DL in high school recruitment, so where do we go the next season when that core is out of eligibility?

I don’t look at stars ever.

Look at offers.

MTSU safety, ND TE, and Tulane Wr are offered by a lot of big schools.

That tells you their talent level.

All big pickups
My thing with looking at stars...... There have only been 2 schools in the last 15 years or so to play for a natty that haven't had a 50% blue chip ratio. Not every 3* sucks, not every 5* will hit, but the more 5* talent you accumulated thereafter success you will have. There's a reason teams who consistently recruit in the top 10 are playing for championships.

i was never saying we should do what they are doing at all but at the same time think we should do better. Both can be true. 12 team playoff coming and you bring both lines back. Thought being more aggressive to round out the rest would have been a great thing.

Those involved that have been tagged need to take @utvols83 up on the offer to market Spyre on social media. Ask some donors to give the $5-10k necessary to fund it. Or use that amount from Spyre to fund it. You have to spend money to make money. What are we waiting on?
He could promote it on his own, he should use his marketing prowess to mount his own campaign. Unless he's looking for some of that 10%.

I get what you're saying, but the ultimate is question is will our staff's recruiting strategy ultimately lead to a championship? It needs to, and I really hope it does.
That's the question, right? They're executing their strategy, but have they set the right strategy?

It's not unlike the player execution strategy. Playing Milton and sitting Nico was the strategy-- and continues to be. Time will tell if it's the right one-- just like time will tell how the recruiting strategy, or the staff retention strategy, pays off.

And the reason we question is because we really want this staff to succeed.

I disagree. Big donors are being asked for renovations and future projects. Not NIL. NIL is being pushed more to fans and the like. I only get asked about season tickets, upgrading those, and funds to certain parts of the school.
