Wise words are wise.It is funny to me that what some people find disconcerting I find reassuring. I think I am most relieved that Heupel, our collective, and AD all seem to be working from a well orchestrated plan. We clearly have money because Nico literally opened Pandora's box on NIL envy, jealousy and speculation. Nico was a very wise investment though. Might not work out, but by all experts he is one of the most sure bets in recruiting in the last 5 years. Then we clearly doubled down investing major capital in his protection this year. That was reflected not only in the pursuit of Seaton, but also the pivot to returning starters when we did not. Even CO touted how much we had offered. Kid got sold by Deion and that kind of stuff happens, but it was not money related.
How many of you watched Bryce or Levis this year and wondered why NFL owners had not done the same strategy?
Ole Miss on the other hand is out shotgun blasting ours and other teams malcontents and cast offs. Good luck with that.
To me, we look like smart money, but some of y'all are chasing QVC and Fingerhut.
Many of the wealthy own their own companies or have positions of influence in companies. Couldn’t those companies hire a spokesman or spokesmen - to mention the company during an interview or be on a billboard, etc? For example, the individuals in the DB room could be used by an antivirus software company - the different spokesmen could talk about how the software will “intercept” any phishing or potential corrupting programs with speed and, well, you get the picture. Those expenses would be tax deductible as a business expense…Spyre’s probably already doing this (Wiegel (sp?), Cookies, etc) but the potential NIL contributor base could be extended from just wealthy UT grads to wealthy business owners throughout Tennessee…True. And I honestly don’t know the rules. All I know is I have never been asked for NIL but I have the other areas. And most I know it’s the same too.
Also, the rich don’t want to contribute to a fund that’s non deductible. That’s a big loss.
Recruiting services are not going to spend the time and money on doing talent evaluations themselves when there's 130 of them all over the country for free. They repeat the opinions of others, period.I'm surprised people still expel so much energy on recruiting rankings. Even if we assume they are 100% correct (they aren't) on physical talent evaluations at this point in their career, there are a multitude of factors which determine if they will be productive at the college level (at any single program) and beyond which aren't captured in those ratings.
Furthermore, since there are few talent evaluators which are generally not great (or else they would have a better job), those services rely heavily on top program's interest in a prospect which naturally favors top programs creating a self-fulfilling rating system. In other words, if UT was consistently at the top, our classes would naturally rate higher with the exact same class due to those services trusting the UT coaching staff.
Classes shouldn't be evaluated until they have been on campus a couple years.
