Recruiting Football Talk VII

Isnt that sad? It’s almost hard to believe. Not many will donate to something unless they get something or it’s tax deductible? Personally, I’ve given to things for the sake of giving. Maybe they were tax deductible, but I would have done it anyways. Did it just the other day actually, and got nothing tangible in return. Now that I think about it, I do it at least a few times a year that I know of.

For sure. If you want to give, then give.

I mean, we're talking (as an example) donating $100 and losing $100.

Vs

"Donating" $100 and ultimately losing $65. I get the difference, but the point was to give regardless.

Sure you could donate to a tax shelter and save that other 35%...but where is your heart at? You're handing over money regardless, so put your money where your passion lies.

Neither are optimal from a financial perspective...that would tell you to invest the $100 and never give to anything. Smdh

I match my Mother's $100 every year , as we put $200 dollars in Salvation Army bucket today....

I’d rather have new trophies than new buildings but I get why DW focuses on it. This is his resume and he’s setting himself up for the future. It’s great for our university but not necessarily for reaching football elite status.

We would also have higher enrollment through winning as 2022 showed us. Winning improves everything else for the university but doesn’t seem to be the absolute top priority like it is at Alabama and Georgia. That’s the pivot I’d like to see us make.
I would argue the two are closely related. Without Vitello we don't recruit or perform as well. Without facilities upgrades we don't have Vitello.

Obviously not all facilities upgrades affect the outcome as much as others, but they do have a cumulative impact on sports recruiting (players and coaches) and retention.

🚨 It's Official - Florida State will be recognized as National CHAMPS if they beat Georgia. Here's how:

The NCAA currently recognizes 10 different sets of rankings to crown a national champ in football. One of these 10 is the Colley Matrix, the computer ranking which ranked UCF #1 in 2017 & awarded them the national championship 👀

FSU currently has a VERY realistic of finishing #1 in the Colley, & thus will be recognized by the NCAA as a joint national champion...

To accomplish this, the following results must occur:

🏈 #5 FSU beats #6 Georgia
🏈 #4 Alabama beats #1 Michigan
🏈 #3 Texas beats #2 Washington
🏈 Alabama over Texas in National Championship

If these results occur, Alabama would have to share their national championship with the Seminoles 🔥

Bama with a shared title? Hard pass. And frankly screw FSU as well, only reason I supported them was Bama hate in first place.

UGA will skull drug those noles.

I’ve worked with many and I don’t know many that would give money to anything without it benefiting them in some form or it is tax deductible.

Give to UT academics $1,000,00 @ 37% bracket is a $370,000 tax savings.

Give to UT NiL and you lose $370,000. Not many would do that without major perks down the road or other incentives.
It's just framing. The dollar amount for the individual is the same (assuming they pre-calculated the final amount...I assume they would) - the final dollar amount to the entity is what's different.

Imagine you can donate $100 to academics or sports.

If you're donating $100 to academics, then you hand them a check for $150 and expect $50 back on the backend. Net donation - $100. If you're donating to football, then you give $100 straight up.

It's the entity that sees the difference. Academics sees $150. Football sees $100. Your dollar figure is a wash.

State of Alabama with THREE 5 star WRs in 2024 with Ryan Williams reclassifying.
Nuts!

And Bama only got Williams. Who is far and away better than the other 2 imo.

Williams and OSU commit Jeremiah Smith are absolute game breakers. Like 1990s FSU, Florida, Tennessee level good WRs.

It's all strategy.

CFB Sirius was talking about this on the way home.

OM & Colorado and (a 3rd team, can't remember) are atop portal rankings....low on HS.

Meanwhile UGA leads HS, winning championships, and has lost 17 to the portal while gaining none.

Give me UGA's situation all day long.

One is sustainable, one is not proven to be so yet. I'd also prefer having a cohesive team of guys in our development umbrella multiple years, not a full team of randos trying to gel every 12 months over and over again.
See UK basketball.
