Actually, I just put it to test. I just called up my nephew, who is being recruited in baseball, and asked him what the most important thing to him is, as an athlete...and, without hesitation, "I want to win". Now, if his financials, or the financials of his family, would be dire, that answer may have varied in some way. Even still, I'd bet the wins and losses are still prevalent, no matter what.

Of course recruits want to win. But there's a pretty simple formula:

If you are currently winning: "Hey look at all the winning we are doing, come be a part of it."

If you are not currently winning: "Think about all the winning we would be doing if you were here".

And here's the thing. I don't follow recruiting year round. I barely keep up with it. But sometimes I see people panicking. Sometimes I see people excited. Sometimes we are winning. Sometimes we are losing. But when I look at the rankings for the last 20 years... We are always in right around the same spot. At least in years where we didn't fire a coach. So I'm skeptical of anyone who says "Recruits will come if the message is XYZ". I don't think the message is all that important. I certainly don't think a mid tier bowl win changes anything.

Beyond that I'm with you. It's kind of ****** to say one of the 13 games we get every year doesn't mean anything. Because it means something to most of the players for sure. But roster management has NEVER been more important than it is now. 1. Appeasing young players with playing time. 2. Getting game experience to accelerate the development of your roster. 3. Seeing where your holes are that you might be able to fill in the Spring. All of these are more important than winning a mid-tier bowl game. Imo

I personally hate the narrative of “Joe’s earned the right to start the bowl game”…this isn’t high school, if Joe plays then fine, but if the coaches wsnt to build for the future by giving Nico the reps then that is more important. Joe has had his chances, but he shouldn’t be given the reins in the bowl game just because “hes a senior and earned it”

I used to have 2 Abyssinian kitties. They would do bird calls and squirrel calls as well. We'd find them in the window sills (we had wide ones) up against the screen calling away. They also made different vocalizations for things they wanted. They had a begging sound that was very different from they're "I'm mad at you" sound and their "give me that" sound. The most terrifying moment though was when my girl kitty was in an upstairs window. The frame was out and she was calling an owl big enough to swoop her up and take her with it. That cat was small but I swear she was absolutely fearless. Nothing - not even angry hissing cats - ever phased her.

Abby does that too when birds are on the porch..

NSD, not early signing day.

He’s just saying recruiting isn’t good enough. He said it’s fine if you want to be an 8-4 program, but you won’t win championships with this level of recruiting.

“Good but not good enough.” Is verbatim the phrasing he used.

I think he's just pushing a narrative. These transfers are getting us closer

Oh, well February signing is basically nonexistent, at this point. So if he’s not happy with the class tomorrow, he’s not gonna be happy two months from now either.

I probably didn’t word it correctly. He’s including portal recruiting too. It’s not just about high school.
