The quality of classes can basically be grouped like this (with total scores):
1. The best by a mile.
2. The second best by a good margin.
3 - 6. Top notch, but not different from each other.
7 - 12. Next tier. Not different from each other.
13 - 16. Next tier. Etc. Then there's a drop off.

It's a little muddy in the 11-14 range, and you could bin those together. We're 13th in total (7th SEC) on 247, 11th in average (7th SEC).

Our class is virtually no different than Florida, LSU, OU, A&M. I'd argue it could be better than LSU and Oklahoma's because they have 27 and 28 commits with lower averages like a Butch class. A&M could pass us as they back-fill their class. Auburn, Texas, Alabama, and Georgia are the ones with clearly better classes regardless of how you slice it.
The retention to me is where people miss out in evaliating today's recruiting. We need a team composite score imo. So like snaps in league+avg star+time in system.

I don't have the numbers, but I bet money Mizzou scored high in areas one and three this year and that was a big part of their success. Losing studs and replacing them with one and done players is going to eventually catch up with teams imo. I also believe the vols are going to be off the charts in this metric next year with all those returning linemen and high ranking recruits. 2025 is the year that worries me.

I I thank God, my family, and all my fans on social media for the opportunity I have

with that being said, I’m bringing my talents and my family and committing to Knoxville Tennessee.

Respect my decision

I know you’ve been working on making this happen for a bit. I am very happy for you and your family.

And if he had forgone the Bowl game and moved on early, dabo would have ripped him about his character. Not sure if anyone has caught on, but dabo has always been a piece of **** as well as that circle jerk of a "church" Newspring is that they use as a cover of not being colossal jackasses.
What is the deal with Newspring?

'25 is a long way off especially in today's environment. The house of cards falls fast these days, the days of bulling players onto campus and and keeping them three years is over. Let's just see who is there in two years.
That is why I like what Heup is doing. Being honest with players may turn some off but it vets the right kind of player. What speaks to me is not only the retention but the returning, many could make a lot more in the league. That's the way you act when you feel that you are part of something bigger than yourself.

Something like that.
Replace Karic with Tate (holding out hope) and one or two of those secondary guys with another portal addition.

I don't know about all year. They were definitely better with Cooper than without. But at their best I never thought "ya these guys are good enough to take us all the way."
Rushed for 234 against USC, 232 against A&M, 133 and 271 passing against Bama, 254 against UK, bad game against Mizzou (Campbell got hurt)

They were pretty darn good when all of them were healthy.

Exactly
Some see UT getting out bid or out recruited, but often, the staff doesn’t deem the player worth it.
If that system keeps us contenders I love it. But if it leads to 8-4 because everyone else’s drama queens out manned us at least y’all won’t have to stress a portal exodus when he’s gone.

Josh Heupel sucks at recruiting.
He is recruiting well there’s no denying it. It’s not top tier yet but very close. But that is also comparing him to the 3 horsemen of the volpocalypse to be fair. He is recruiting blue chips like fulmer did which is a compliment. I think if we put together a good season and another great class we will be ready to compete consistently.

Let's see what happens when this staff has a full recruiting cycle without the shadow of NCAA investigation hanging.

That is absolutely a factor, which makes it relevant that youngers are marrying less and having less kids. But is that the cause, or a symptom of changing values? Probably both.

I thought this was funny: everybody I knew got their license the day they turned 16. Most had a car. My 29yo son still doesn't have his license, and obviously has never owned a car, but he's lived in Spain, Taiwan, and Iceland and traveled to a dozen places I can't pronounce. While I was better traveled than many at that that age, many I knew had barely left their state.

Technology, free time, and prosperity have absolutely changed us, just as the Great Depression and several major wars changed my grandparents. It's not one or the other, it's both.
Hard times make hard men, hard men make good times, good times make soft men, soft men make hard times.

The truest saying in the world...every younger gen person will scream about the exceptions, that this is a generalization..and they are right..it most certainly is, and the fall has not always been extremely precipitous from literally one generation to another, but this generalization has held true throughout all the millenia of human civilization

And now..thanks to the insane pace of change over the last 2-300 years, the fall is happening at a much faster pace as well.

We ain’t done yet. If we get McKinley we back in the top 10, they arguing for no reason.

For some reason, I bet we get him. Haven’t offered a ton of DL guys from the portal (unless I missed something). Kind of tells me, we get this kid and we’re done on DL.

I think our DL recruiting would be helped immensely if we had a high draft pick. Really think we need to go get a big time DL guy. The kid from TX could help this team.

There have been so many guys we were so strong with only to come in second that I'm just not confident in this staff's ability to close the deal with those elite types. Blows my mind that Garner wouldn't be enough of a draw for a DL, but then I consider the kind of offense we run and the strain that it puts on a defense at UT. Grasping at straws I suppose, but it just feels like we're running in place with some of the elite talent at some positions. I'll believe McKinley when I see it.
