Both can be true:
1. They need to learn how to close better in some position areas
2. They just signed the best class we have had in years.
Completely agree.

Saban is 72 years old and probably the GOAT in CFB. Smart worked for him for a dozen years and then took over a program not in NCAA trouble after a successful long term head coach in a state that annually produces dozens of quality SEC players. Those two are the benchmarks for comparison. They each are able to hire the best coaches available that fit their systems.

Compare to Heup's situation in terms of SEC HC experience, NCAA horse collar on the program and recruiting, recruiting turf, and coaching staff improvement needed. It is a work in progress with the trendline pointing up significantly.

Celebrate the victories and keep working.

Are we still going by avg star rating since every team ahead of us and at least 5 behind us have higher avg star rating, or have we decided we like our point-based #14 ranking better?
Not sure which service you are using, I am going with 247 since they factor in transfers which you cannot ignore in the NEW world of Portal. Total points is A view, but now with no 25 cap technically any team could add 50 3 stars and be in the lead. The old Rivals method of only the top 20 does not play anymore with the new transfer rules and immediate play frees up movement. SO you have to use them both for different analysis efforts.

So the big HOPE from downstream is that our staff's evaluations on lower star guys is better than services and clean up on the missed upside obviously there as evidenced by the draft each year when huge numbers of 3 stars get drafted and 4 stars don't. Not sure if the services are awarding stars for actual production or for projected production at the next level. Gotta be based on the former. One celebrated really good player in resulting with 4 good players out can be a problem. On the other end 2 really good players in following 6 marginal players out, hopefully what we see in our DB rooms, can pay huge dividends.

Basically this. It’s not unfair to make comments occasionally that the staff needs to be a bit better if we want to be an elite program. But the incessant whining can just be exhausting. I don’t understand “fans” who do nothing but complain.

Me neither. I put those people on ignore.

I’m pretty much a homer in 75% of my posts.

I don’t understand the fans who can’t think critically and do nothing but pump sunshine.

I think our DL recruiting would be helped immensely if we had a high draft pick. Really think we need to go get a big time DL guy. The kid from TX could help this team.

This comment surprises me honestly…Garner is widely known and his history of putting DL in the NFL is superior…back in the day we dreamed of having garner back here..now I don’t understand why any DL wouldn’t want to come play for him.

Holy crap can you guys believe Hubbs and AP start todays podcast agreeing with me that this staff needs to learn how to close better?

What miserable trolls they are! Putting them on ignore (but not really).
Well, AP hasn't known his ass from a hole in the ground this entire cycle...so, yeah, I can believe he agrees with you.

Hey buddy… you having a rough morning?

It’s just funny how myself and others comment how the staff struggles to close and a lot of cheerleaders on here somehow take offense to that and go in with personal attacks.

Meanwhile, guys who literally cover recruiting and have for decades say the same thing. The staff is recruiting well, but needs to close better.

But keep lashing out at me, the big bad wolf, if it makes you feel better. 😉
Well, you're completely misrepresenting the conversation on the podcast.

They were answering a loaded question, so obviously they were discussing it. They agreed that there were some fall-throughs late, but then discussed opinions as to why that may be, while agreeing that late misses happen to pretty much every staff.

Some reasons:

This is a great class, and a lot of fans are undervaluing it.
Staff's recruiting style of not pressuring.
The fact that UT were late on a lot of these guys, so you can't really fault them for incomplete hail Maries.
The possibility that Spyre's reputation may create a bad impression here. i.e. Recruits know that Spyre is reputed to have a lot of money, so some recruits will use UT just to drive up NIL moneys elsewhere.

It was in no way a "This staff sucks at closing and it needs to get fixed. Boy, EdEcEcko77 on Vol Nation is right on, everyone over there really should show him more respect, and the place would improve if they all took him off of ignore" conversation.

Welcome to the SEC Noles.

This is just the Fl St way of putting out the vibe and getting their ducks in a row. They want to speed up the next expansion...... I'm not sure the SEC or Big10 are ready for another round of expansion just yet....... We will see.

Tough love brudda. People want money, insta love, and to trot through easy breezy fields of grass with sun on their backs.

Listen to a Garner interview and tell me if light and frothy is used to describe him. 😁

We have to put it together. They'll be happy for us to be relevant

Interesting. I dont see Missouri, SC, or Kentucky anywhere on that list. Its almost as if they're completely irrelevant in people's minds. Such that, no one gives a flying **** about them. Meaning, we should raid their classes.

National Signing Day is just for show now ...

Years ago the signature meant something all it means now is , I will stick around til I find a better NIL Deal.....
Hope all Tennessee recruits stick around , saying that there will be numerous guys nation wide with different team uniforms before their eligibility runs out...just a fact anymore...

Some kids will do anything for attention.

I do not pump sunshine. I’m realistic. I have expressed my fair share of concern across different staffs in different sports when warranted.

If you want to tell yourself that you are a “homer” in 75% of your posts, that’s fine. You can do that. But clearly that’s not how most of the board views it since a lot of people have been pointing out how incessantly negative you’ve been lately. I don’t think I’ve seen hardly any positive posts from you in the past week and even the few I do are almost always caveated with something negative.

That's why they're all paying above market to remain relevant on signing day, and hopefully remain relevant on Saturdays

That's what happens when the teams play on SEC Network most weeks...

Besides SEC fans who watches SEC Network...
