I listened to Watson Brown on Basilio and one of the things he mentioned was the middle of the field will be there for Nico on some called runs and runs off RPO. I expect to see him make several runs.Geez...I hope not unless it's the first play and he goes untouched like Milton did. The less he's exposed, the better.
They are still a good defense. FPI has efficiency numbers for offense, defense and special teams and it is opponent adjusted. Opponent adjusted doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story.. it just means they tried to compensate for it in the numbers the best they could. Either way, Iowa is still 5th in the nation for defensive efficiency. Their Offense is 121st in the nation and the worst out of P5 teamsIs Iowas defense good or do they just try and play ball control to keep the score low by running clock and also play poor offensive teams? The best Big10 team is 35 offensively and many of them are in the 100s.
Um, benching Joe to see more Nico is pretty much picking who gets to play.
Are they more of a running team? Passing? Both? They are still a good defense. FPI has efficiency numbers for offense, defense and special teams and it is opponent adjusted. As for how they play, if they were a keep away offense that was skewing their defensive numbers than you’d expect to see their TOP a little higher but they are in 101st in the nation in TOP. To be fair though, it’s hard to keep your TOP up too high when your offense is terrible. Either way, they aren’t playing keep away and instead of the defense playing less they are having to play more and yet they still have the efficiency metrics they do. So yeah, they are impressive.
Doesn't mean they will shut us down though. I’m still confident in being able to move the ball on them.
Damn $1MM? If that's true that's a pass for me. His production doesn't = $1MM.TB’s source who said Nico was starting just gave him the scoop on Evan Stewart. Stewart wants $1M for one season. The red flag is his work ethic. There may not be enough “want to” in him because he already makes decent $$ from social media. Football may not be his #1 priority.
They definitely run more than pass based on the numbers. Almost 10 attempts more per game running than passing. I barely watched any of them this year though. So they do try to be a ball control type offense this year.. they just do a terrible job at it. They did fire the OC who I think was the HCs son? Think it was his son but he was a family member none the less. So there may be a couple more wrinkles or changes but doubt we see too much change. Are they more of a running team? Passing? Both?
Having said that.....you know better though, right?I do hope our fans set realistic expectations for Nico in this game. Feels unlikely though. It’s his first start and it’s against a true Top 5 defense. It’s going to be tough sledding due to opt outs and injuries as well. If he doesn’t throw for 250+ I hope our fans don’t immediately turn on him as a bust.
