i think they are a good defense against the type of teams they have faced but i think they will struggle being spread out like we are going to do to them. They are still a good defense. FPI has efficiency numbers for offense, defense and special teams and it is opponent adjusted. Opponent adjusted doesn’t necessarily tell the whole story.. it just means they tried to compensate for it in the numbers the best they could. Either way, Iowa is still 5th in the nation for defensive efficiency. Their Offense is 121st in the nation and the worst out of P5 teams
As for how they play, if they were a keep away offense that was skewing their defensive numbers than you’d expect to see their TOP a little higher but they are in 101st in the nation in TOP. To be fair though, it’s hard to keep your TOP up too high when your offense is terrible. Either way, they aren’t playing keep away and instead of the defense playing less they are having to play more and yet they still have the efficiency metrics they do. So yeah, they are impressive.
Doesn't mean they will shut us down though. I’m still confident in being able to move the ball on them.
Not that I necessarily believe TB, but as much as I'd like to add Stewart, he's not worth $1M IMO.TB’s source who said Nico was starting just gave him the scoop on Evan Stewart. Stewart wants $1M for one season. The red flag is his work ethic. There may not be enough “want to” in him because he already makes decent $$ from social media. Football may not be his #1 priority.
Our safeties were probably our leading tacklers after Herring. After 10+ yard gains, they're the ones who make tackles, and our opponents had a lot of those.I'm starting to look up some information on Iowa. One of the funniest stats of the day.
Elijah Herring was our leading tackler with 75 total tackles (29 solo, 46 assisted)
Iowa's leading tackler is their stud LB Jay Higgins with 155 total tackles (65 solo, 90 assisted)
When you’re on defense as much as Iowa, you’re bound to get more defensive statsI'm starting to look up some information on Iowa. One of the funniest stats of the day.

And the tempo will cause them problems as various coaches have commented that it is difficult to replicate Vols tempo in practice.i think they are a good defense against the type of teams they have faced but i think they will struggle being spread out like we are going to do to them.
Here is the picture of what I see or want to be true.
Joe consulted with Heup and staff, his family, many of his trusted teammates, who he plans to use to train him for the combine, and the NFL scouts that attend UT practices/games. He asked Heup and was willing to play if his coach needed him, but was told he probably should get ready for the next level since the team was not in the national championship picture and he should not take a chance on a bad injury.
Not the VN way necessarily. Too logical and reasonable or just naive?
I expect Nico to have about the same impact as Klubnik had for Clemson in our bowl game last year. He was in a similar position. Anything better than that is great.good stuff from Joe Milton.
i'm excited to see what Nico looks like too.
but i think this is a tough spot to do it in. i think the hardest part of this game will be not letting the result (regardless of how it goes) overly impact perception for next year.
I agree. Thats why I think we will be able to move the ball on them. They do play a lot of 5 back formations though which will help being spread out and their DL/LB has been stout against the run all year plus LB decent in coverage. So I don’t think they will be a pushover by any means, I just think we can manage to move the ball on them enough.i think they are a good defense against the type of teams they have faced but i think they will struggle being spread out like we are going to do to them.
CJH wouldn't let a 6th year Senior QB call audibles, he isn't going to let a Freshmen QB either...And the tempo will cause them problems as various coaches have commented that it is difficult to replicate Vols tempo in practice.
Will be interesting to see if Nico has “check with CJH” as much as JM did.
Someone should email VQ asking if they expect a full house backfield with the bruiser RB/FB, Nico, Sampson, and the Freshman?I agree. Thats why I think we will be able to move the ball on them. It's true. And the two functional offenses they did play blew them out.Not to disparage the Iowa defense, as they are a very good defense, but this was their schedule this year. Not a whole lot of offensive juggernauts on that schedule...
