If they are so certain about the young guys taking over then why are they targeting three OL? Fact is we need starters and more depth. Some reason that hurts feelings.
The only ppl with hurts feelings is you and a few other complaining about the portal in January lol when history suggests the staff find more portal entries as the year progresses. Quit acting like the roster is set..

So if the roster is not deserving to be set your telling us you agree there’s an issue. People can complain, it’s a message board. You can also come here and say they’re idiots. But everyone knows we have a depth issue and they want it fixed. In the portal era it’s easy to try and fix it asap, we seem to be not so good at that. Time will tell.

I would think that with the way that Nico played in the bowl game, that our coaches have a pretty good case to make to our NIL people. Saying that we can be very special the next two seasons if we can just shore up a couple of positions. Find the money someplace for a couple of more starting SEC caliber OL and another DB and we are definitely a 10-2 type playoff team. If we do this now or after spring practice and we are ok.
Our money people aren’t stupid.
They see the opportunity we have with someone like Nico.

“Not so good at that” What makes you say that? Fall practice hasn’t started and the transfer portal hasn’t ended…the point is why complain in January about this when there is a full spring and summer to get to where the staff could add more players? If it is an issue by then you have every right to complain..and time will tell but you guys complaining now only shows how little faith you have in the staff, is that the hill you want to die on?

Mostly OL that couldn't win a starting spot on their current team.
EH.... its not quite that simple, even if they couldnt win a spot there, they still might be better than what we have here.
ONL and I cant remember but there was another guy that we didnt get until late in the portal last year.

Easy… Did. Not. Watch.
For those who didnt watch. . . why come back now that we're having the most success in 15-20yrs and bitch about how things are going? Why not just stay gone until UT has the most absolutely perfect team?

(Rant) We had the #1 offense in the nation and followed it up with a top rushing offense. . . mostly all with players who couldn't get it done before Heupel & staff. I'm sure the coaches would like to have more talent everywhere, but they've absolutely earned trust through their successes here.

I'm not saying I think it's wrong to worry a little, but is there a need to go as far as some take it? I don't think so. We should have some confidence as fans that our coaches will make it work, based on how they've overachieved across the board since they've been here. (Offensively, but defense has improved each year as well)

If we had mediocre talent and produced bad results, I'd understand the window-licking about needing more talent. . . but they've been coaching mediocre talent with far above average results.

Imo, there is no need to worry that the coaches will fail to get the current roster ready to be competitive and developed into top SEC talent.

I'm more worried about depth on the OL than the talent we have there. I think our younger guys will start stepping up. Hopefully we can bring in a couple guys for depth at least. Thats a long way from freaking out and throwing successful (so far) position coaches on the hot seat.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but Bama’s OL wasn’t good. In fact, Bama started a true freshman at LT.

I don’t get the huge fuss. There is still a long way to go before the start of the season, and we have coaches who have proven they can coach offense.
I don't think they've proven they can recruit and develop elite OL yet, though I'm hoping the young guys show out next year. They've definitely proven they can scheme with any offensive personnel though.

Regardless of how good Bama OL was, would Campbell or Spraggins start there? I'm not saying 100% the answer is no, but it's not certain they would. And if they're not at least as good or better than what you and @JacketVol say was a bad Bama OL, then that unit isn't ready to be a championship level unit, unless the young guys HAVE developed and are now ready to be that level.

I'm not saying for sure either way, but I think there's reason to be worried, since our main hope is that unproven young guys prove themselves.

Just speculation. But I would say both probably would have started. At least Campbell. Our OL has been good. Depth has been the issue. I think we have a very good teacher at the position. We missed on the 2022 class. I believe the last 2 classes will help, but we just need to develop depth.

So nothing about actual results on the field?

#1 offense ‘22….#1 in rushing in SEC ‘23. Giving up some of the least amount of sacks and hurries and QB hits in the league.

These things don’t matter?
Getting shut down at UGA and At Bama!
What do you not understand about results on the field?

Getting shut out at home vs UGA.

Is being shutout still scoring 0 points? Bc that didn’t happen.

But didn’t realize the OL caused all of that!

I’ll take 20 wins over the last 2 years with a promising future and run with it. You’re welcome to go in the other direction and be upset!

Sorry, I am not on here all of the time, any updates on the transfer targets for the Offensive Line that we are after?

I mean, they obviously feel we need more OL since they tried to bring in 3 this weekend, and we supposedly pursued Farmer a few weeks ago. They have targeted OL. They just haven't been able to get any commits. So we know they haven't gotten their first choices. That doesn't mean things won't still work out, but there's nothing wrong with acknowledging the reality of the situation. I know many VNers hate the word reality/realist, but we've clearly pursued OL in the portal and whiffed on our initial targets.
They may WANT another OL, but do they feel they NEED one? If they truly NEED another OL I'll bet dollars to donuts we get one before fall camp starts.
